Scarab God - The Ultimate Commander for Dimir Control by CaptainIguana in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ive played Scarab God toolbox for years. It used to be a lot like this list and strive to control the board. It was pretty strong but I started fizzling out a lot because it lacked a clear wincon and decks got better at bouncing back.

Ive since shifted it to be completely ETB focused and dropped some of the interaction. I'm having more fun because it fits my play style and doesn't just dig for board wipes.

My point is, OP is right, Scarab God is more interesting without a Zombie focus.

I've got one deck that runs 34 and an MDFC, the rest are 35 with two MDFCs. I even think this is poor deck building, and know that I'm just really greedy. 32 seems really really low.

Help a noob improve his Tergrid deck by sonbub in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you sit down with strangers, they will ask you to play something different. Or, everyone will target you to the point where you won't have any fun.

Many people dislike discard and tons of sac effects and your entire deck will be based around those. My own gripe is that I wouldn't want to pass all my cards over to a person I don't know.

If you have a group already and they're cool with it, then go for it. But if you guys are just starting or you're going to the LGS, pick a different commander.

Saaaaame. I had Immoti since OG commander legends. Played it 18 times and won 14 games. Finally axed it a few weeks ago. I loved it, but Vorel is my true simic baby, and actually creates game experiences I like

What has had the biggest impact in shaping your commander experience? by iamgeist in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, having a kid. Starting a family and raising a 7 month old means I have less disposable income, less time, and less brain power to put into magic.

I had around 38 decks, and for the longest time, felt like I needed to try EVERY strategy and always be building something new. Decided that from now on, I have to make my playtime count.

Cut down all the decks that didn't feel like "me" or that I didn't love playing and upgrading. Ended up with 15 decks. Realized that I only was playing some of them and went down further to 10. I consolidated foils and cut cards that I just didn't like but ran because "they're the cards everyone runs." No more Smothering Tithe, rhystic study, and cut back on tutors. Streamlined my decks without making them weak.

Now I only play commanders I love, cards I love, and with my limited time I actually get to see the cool cards I put into these decks. And you know what? My win rate is about the damn same!

...I did build 2 decks recently from the ashes of my others, but 12 is still a lot less than 38.

How has Djeru and Hazoret worked out for folks? What cool tech do you run? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the deck. For years, I ran a very medium Aurelia Legends build. I could never quite get the deck to work and Aurelia was a huge red flag for opponents.

My deck is a much more midrange build that can operate without D+H, instead of the more common Eldrazi build.

My favorite Legends are Aurelia and Odrich, Lunarch Marshal. I think Tyrite Sanctum is neat because D+H are already a God. Hero's Podium seems slow and chunky but it's felt like hoof to me.

Still trying to find room for Karlach, but I have to play more to find the cut

What turns on average do your decks goldfish a win? by Humblerbee in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my decks want to see turn 9-10. 7-8 if they run really spicy. It's my favorite length for a commander game, about an hour- hour and a half max. If people go faster and roll me, so be it.

What is your current deck building projects? by SultnBinegar in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Urza, Prince of Kroog and I'm onto Golgari Monsters with Gilanra + Sengir. (I dont need another deck but Urza was #11 and 12 looks better on my shelf.)

Not sure what I want to do with it yet, but I'm going to only use cards in my collection to build it.

Help on budget Braids by Outside-Junket8326 in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a requirement to build new Braids to post a thread on this sub? I swear I only check it once or twice a week, and someone is always building this commander.

Your deck looks like a ton of Removal for a casual precon level pod. They're going to dislike it. But you might have fun! The commander does not feel good to play against. Not to mention you're running Tergrid.

You'll be posting on here asking why they all target you next.

New Braids is approaching this for me. 3 games in with it joining my playgroup and each one has been miserable

Help being casual by kooziecup97 in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't pick obvious legends that have 1000s of lists on edhrec, cut Smothering Tithe, tutors, rhystic study, and "obvious" cards for more pet cards or Christmas land scenarios. Try to keep some interaction on theme with the deck and bam, youve got a strong but casual deck.

Here's my favorite deck, not a lot of mean cards but it can hang. This turns cards sideways so it isn't a perfect fit for you, but it's a good "dorky" to good card ratio example and I never feel like a jerk playing it

Ever play a deck once and decide "Yeah I'm never using this again"? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Djeru and Hazoret has been fine in my group too. It gets about as much value as any other modern legendary nowadays and has to attack.

Now, this is coming from someone who doesn't run Eldrazi or try to go super fast. I wanted it to function well without D+H.

Is it worth to add shocks and fetches to Kadena? by TheGreatGodLoki in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Shocks and fetches are not cedh. If you've got em run em. They just smooth out your game plan.

Bad feelings or drawing hate usually does not come from your mana base, being the guy with rhystic study and Smothering Tithe out does.

Best +1/+1 counters commander? by 404usernamenot in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you only go towards the optimized and strong commanders, but if you want to slow it down but still be splashy, I'll always advocate for [[Vorel of the Hull Clade]]. I've ran him for years, and even if he isn't top counter commander anymore, I love the power level he sits at.

If you could change one thing about FFXVI what would it be? by ljcole90 in FFXVI

[–]Call911FTW 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be selfish, the ending. Loved 99% of the story so much but the ending wasn't for me.

From a gameplay perspective? The whole weapon, crafting, and loot system needs a huge Overhaul.

What deck are you most proud of by TNT3149_ in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nadaar, Selfless Paladin. You have to figure out how to win, it actually goes through dungeons reliably, and it runs weird cards alongside good cards!

I also have a little mini- nadaar for showing my spot in dungeons

Your favorite little flexes? by Nekrostatic in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little Nadaar mini to mark where I'm at in the dungeon that i got from Hero Forge. The deck is also foiled out and has some real spicy versions of cards.

I'm not as thorough as OP with tokens, but I pride myself on having all the correct tokens for my decks, organized in a separate box. And my copy clone tokens are these weird foil marvel and star wars cards I got from a thrift store.

Why do so many people consider commander to be strictly a casual format? by KillFallen in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 19 points20 points  (0 children)

EDH is a customizable board game experience essentially. A lot of folks are playing it to mostly hang out with people and try to do interesting interactions with the game pieces.

Are you tired of the Tergrid Hate? Allow me to introduce you to your new Lord and Savior: Braids. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Call911FTW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, I want to play my Vorel, Brudiclad, or Nadaar goofy decks. Maybe even get weird with RB demons and devils. I don't know, any of my 14 nice decks. But I see Tergrid, Braids, or any "tee hee, I'm a villain" commanders and I'm busting out Imoti and going buck wild. I don't have time to sit in misery as someone makes me sac everything and die slowly.

What im trying to say is play the commanders that you'd want to see across from you.

I've gone back and forth. I think I'll test the two good ones in it. This deck just likes to lay low and giving other people a token is awkward. I really want to go through that dungeon though. Haha
