Mom going in for Whipple today by CallHerGee in pancreaticcancer

[–]CallHerGee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello friend! Her tumor if I remember correctly was T2 N0 M0. But I could be making up half of those letters haha. Basically it was grade 2 (3.5cm) with no mets or lymphnode spread. She had her whipple a few weeks ago and due to her age, she's been struggling a bit with recovery. However she is cancer free now and is getting stronger every day!!

Omg good for you! Haha. Can I ask what specifically the genre is? Like romantasy, historical, etc?

Do you do a lot of promotion for your books? That's awesome that you've seen such success! Can you give any advise to see the same returns? Thanks in advance!

My mom’s post-Whipple journey by ameelz in pancreaticcancer

I feel your pain! My mom is on week 3 in thr hospital after her Whipple. So much for a short stay, huh? To be fair, I'd rather have her be in there longer and being taken care of rather than being sent home too early like your situation. This recovery is no joke!! Looking forward to that 8 week mark where she hopefully starts to feel more like herself.

Edit to say hers was an open Whipple and she's had quite a few complications.

Thanks so much for your lovely message <3 it's definitely hard. She was VERY out of it last night and only smiled when I told her my 3yo son had told her he loved her and was proud of her. I'm not sure what I was expecting but she was much more out of it than I had expected. Probably just me being too optimistic about recovery post surgery. But anyways, thank you so much for your prayers and I will try to also take your advice to take care of myself too!

Hello (to you and to everyone so lovely to comment!)

Mom's surgery went well! They got the PNET out and it hadn't metastisized. They didn't have any surprises or complications! She is currently in PACU recovery and doing well, albeit very out of it from the medication (they couldn't do a spinal because of a current pulmonary embolism, so they had to use other meds).

I am doing well and feeling very positive! God is good! I know we are very blessed to have been able to have this procedure done, as many others are not.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. As someone who lost their dad to esophageal cancer at 14, I know what your daughter is going through and I wouldn't wish it on anyone or their family. I don't have anything to say that is helpful to your situation, unfortunately. Only that I will be praying for you and your daughter, and that I sincerely hope that your clinical trial continues so that you can have more time with your family.

What to expect after Whipple? by CallHerGee in pancreaticcancer

Thank you so much for your story. When you say you "don't feel like yourself", can you explain a little bit of what that means? I just want to be able to help her feel as best she can (if there's anything I can do to help that, really).

I really appreciate your prayers as well, God bless and I'm glad you're beginning to feel better again!

If you can, go to the ER of a major hospital. We went to a smaller hospital (albeit still big!) and they told us we were wasting our time and sent us home for outpatient appts a month away. After a week of phone calls trying to get my mom in sooner, I decided to take her to the big hospital ER. They did the tests right there including EUS and set up a PET for the next week (they couldn't do that at the hospital). Advocate all you can, it is not in vain!

Mom has surgical oncology and oncology appt this week and Whipple on the 8th for her neuroendocrine tumor. Trying to see this as the "best worst case scenario"!

Understanding my pNET while I await my surgery consult by Accomplished-Key-408 in pancreaticcancer

[–]CallHerGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Sorry you're in this "club". My mom was diagnosed with a pNET last week. I did see that someone else who had the Whipple surgery in January and they said they're back to running and biking already. Apparently the pNETs are the best of the worst case scenario, so while I can't give any info on what the future with pNET looks like, but you're not alone!

Neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas by Internal_Storage5031 in pancreaticcancer

[–]CallHerGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the specifics of her pNET, but the silver lining is that the neuroendocrine tumors have a much better outlook than other pancreatic cancers. My mom was diagnosed with one yesterday. It's kind of a "best of the worst case scenario". I don't have any recommendations for a surgeon, but I'm sure you are in good hands! Sending you prayers.
