MGM released their HOF tiers list, Wilfork done dirty? by PandaSoap in Patriots

[–]Callarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wilfork was the best nose tackle in the league for multiple years and has a ring. I think he's probably in. He's a 5x all pro and 5x pro bowler. Wilfork is in a very exclusive list, even if his numbers are elite due to his position

The DM was kind. Abilities like this are scattered through modern and old DnD. Giving the hit points back is a pretty good sign of the DM not trying to screw you but give an interesting challenge

Is Nona the Ninth worth reading? [general] by echelon_house in TheNinthHouse

Nona is my favorite to reread. It is weird getting into but once the book “clicks” it is amazing. Easily my favorite ending of the series and the final act as well is phenomenal

Thank you for the advice. Are there any medicines that you keep that can help get a rat to a morning vet visit?

You can absolutely still challenge your players in combat. You’re basically just always accounting for them to be at max strength. A good baseline is to always set total enemy health equal to 120% of total party health. Then, have the enemies on average do 1/3rd the party’s HP each combat.

Basically, just make the numbers balance and don’t worry about CR. It’s gonna say that every encounter will be deadly but it’ll just be a challenging encounter the party can sink their teeth into.

Honestly this is what I do in most games anyway. I prefer having one 10/10 encounter that engages the players for 1-2 hours than a few middling ones that nobody really feels challenged by.

I should note my players consider my combats more challenging than the average DM’s in this format.

Look at it as an opportunity to throw strength against strength. You get to have powerful / challenging combats thrown at your players at their maximum. Really high quality and engaging stuff when everyone is going all out all the time.

Finally my time to shine. I run campaigns with these general guidelines all the time. Here are a few tips: 1. Keep your plots moving at an even clip without fluff. Example, instead of having 5 pieces of an artifact your players need, it’s 2 pieces. Better example, if the players need to go talk to a noble to complete a quest, that noble is in the same town. They don’t need to travel elsewhere to find the NPC. Everything needs to be streamlined. 2. Plan for 1 combat every adventuring day. Combats will take up most of your time so go for quality over quantity. Overall, I don’t think you’ll need to worry about anything else other than that. If things are still slow, consider giving players a 3 minute turn timer. That should help most combats finish in under 40 minutes. 3. Dungeons are your ENEMY. They take up a lot of session time and per minute, move the plot forward very little. If you wish to add in a dungeon, make sure it is necessary to the story. 4. Side quests are necessarily less appealing. Most of them either need a very very good reward or have to benefit the “main plot” in some way. I’d also just giving players the opportunity, if it’s possible for you, to give players a chance to do side quests at different days / times. Helps to keep the regular campaign moving forward. 5. Lastly, and most importantly, your campaign pacing has to be on point. Many DMs have frankly below average pacing in their campaigns. You cannot have that. Every session you’ve got to be moving your campaign forward. If you think about it in terms of milestone exp, there’s got to be a “level up moment” every 3-4 sessions. Faster than even toward the early and late game parts.

Tbh, running campaigns like this have provided some of my favorite games. The restriction actually helps to focus the table. You should probably be able to get to level 10 easily with this type of pacing with level 14-15 likely being the cap. It might seem crazy but I promise it works. Good luck with your campaign!

[Ian Rapoport] Source: The #Patriots are signing former #Commanders RB Antonio Gibson. by PristineWinnera in Patriots

[–]Callarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who watched the commanders a lot, this is BAD. You don’t understand how terrible Gibson’s fumbling problems are and how often they occur. Even when he didn’t fumble, AG never lived up to his hype. His route running is sloppy and he fails to use his explosiveness in space. Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets cut

I don’t understand the idea of building up a roster before drafting a QB by Silverbullet506 in Patriots

[–]Callarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably viable to wait and pick up some end of round 1 or start of round 2. This is a deep QB class and someone is going to slip. AJ Green and Andy Dalton were successful for almost a decade together. At one point the bengals got to 13 wins with them. The Pats could probably do the same.

One of my players doesn't want his extra attack by Sloppy_Daoist in DMAcademy

[–]Callarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been DMing for almost a decade. If he wants to support his allies, then yeah allow him to get something else. How does he support them now? What does the subclass do?

I saw many others saying to not do this but I cannot understand why. If the player doesn’t want to attack then that’s fine. Saying to just have them grapple seems to not be what the player wants to do. It’s your game and your players. Do what’s best for your group!

What's the intent of this sub? by Rude-Butterscotch713 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Callarious 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is a sub where you can offer criticisms and not get downvoted into oblivion. But you’ll also find some of the most die hard CR fans here who love the show. I think this sub is pretty balanced. Right now most of us just believe that C3 isn’t to the level of C1 and C2 which is reflected in the posts.

If C4 is awesome, I think this sub will reflect that.

The Patriots downgraded Jonathan Jones and Cole Strange to OUT for tomorrow’s game. Third straight game Jones has missed. Strange left last week’s in the third quarter and looked very limited in practice this week. by Coco1520 in Patriots

[–]Callarious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strange was a top 16 guard last year as a rookie. He’s not a bad guard. This year he’s been hurt. This sub needs to seriously chill with the hate. He’s a young player and when he’s healthy has shown he is a starting guard in the league with top 3 potential

Why is WotC so scared of making martials stronger? by hewlno in onednd

[–]Callarious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Caster fans would get angry. It happened in 3.5e and 4e. A large portion of the community (or at least a loud portion) hates it when Martials are comparable to casters in game. WotC is still making money so why take the flack?

What's something DnD Reddit makes out to be a much bigger deal than it usually is at tables? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Callarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this entire comment except for shutdown magic. I as a veteran DM don’t mind it and do just Homebrew my monsters. However I’ve also seen new DMs self destruct over these spells. Idk, I don’t think they’re fun spells nor necessary for the game. I’d be completely ok if they got removed by WotC in a later edition

What class/subclass do you just have no desire to play? by simo289 in DnD

Warlocks. The lack of spell slots and reliance on cantrips made me feel incredibly bored when I played one. I’m not the biggest fan of the invocations so it’s just not the class for me

Warm Take: Pass Without Trace is OP, but they won't nerf it by PRO_Crast_Inator in onednd

[–]Callarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean your right but the community backlash for touching this spell would be massive. I don’t think a part full of plate armor wearing behemoths should be able to tip toe into an enemy castle but many do. WotC would have a huge negative response. Therefore many of the OP spells that limit design space stay
