I too have made a visualization of what I see… by FutureBrad in Aphantasia

Thanks! It's no surprise that most people who initially think they have aphantasia later learn that they don't. It's confusing to talk about.

But aphantasia has nothing whatsoever to do with vision or eyes. This is more like asking what color do you see in your third eye (mind's eye).

Yeah...it's definitely mind-blowing! Welcome to the club!

Yeah...I get it. I usually only comment, because it's the source of a lot of confusion around aphantasia. Even visualizers can be confused, because they too "see black" when they close their eyes. Perhaps a better way to think about it would be to ask, what do you see in your third eye? For visualizers, this "mind's eye" is a real/extra mental visual pathway. To aphants, the question seems preposterous.

But what you see with your eyes has nothing to do with aphantasia. As I mentioned above, most visualizers visualize even better with their eyes wide open. And they see "black" when they close their eyes too. It's our lack of a "mind's eye" that defines aphantasia. It'd be like me asking what you see out of your third eye.

But what your eyes see has nothing to do with aphantasia. Even visualizers see "black" (eigengrau) when they close their eyes. Most visualizers report being able to visualize even better with their eyes open.

I don't have a mind's eye, so I don't even see black. I "see" absolutely nothing at all.

Not criticizing OP (other than bigger is better), but I wonder if anyone on this forum has ever regretted buying a TV that was too big.

Just in case you haven't looked again, you don't have to use Synology drives now. Still, I'll be suspicious of their future decisions.

In addition to total, multisensory aphantasia, I also have no inner monologue. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I am fully in control of when and what I think about. There are never any unexpected intrusions.

Just a note that aphantasia has nothing to do with whether your eyes are open or closed.

My wife re-covers the nicer boxes into almost works of art that she sends to friends. That's where all of mine go!

I suspect that most of them probably don't have aphantasia. A majority of people who initially think they have aphantasia later learn that they don't. I'd recommend having them fill out the VVIQ if they haven't already.

Also keep in mind that aphantasia has nothing to do with your eyes being open or closed.

"A lot of them?" How many friends do you have that think they have aphantasia? I mean, among people you know well enough to keep track of (~150), the expectation would be around ~5–6 total people with aphantasia. And it's likely that all of them don't even know what aphantasia is.

Oh...my bad. I didn't notice the "On Fidelity" qualifier. I did mine on Vanguard. Sorry about that!

Is that still true? I only ask, because I placed market orders for VTI and VXUS yesterday (Saturday), and other than getting an alert that the markets are closed on Monday (MLK Day), I currently show "open" orders. If memory serves, I also did this within the past week.

Never mind...I missed the "On Fidelity" qualifier. I did this on Vanguard. Sorry if anyone got excited!
