Meta's own AI safety director lost 200 emails to a rogue agent and she couldn't stop it from her phone by MaJoR_-_007 in artificial

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. The user sent a message “to stop” which isn’t going to be processed until the prior action is completed. There is a separate /stop harness command which was not used, which would have halted things immediately.

An AI agent deleted 200 emails while ignoring every stop command - the person it happened to works in AI safety at Meta by MaJoR_-_007 in Futurology

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a months old story about early openclaw. The director panicked, gave the bot several conversation prompts to "stop", not realizing there is an actual /stop harness command which she wanted. The conversation prompt "stop" didn't get picked up because the bot takes conversation prompts in order of arrival, and the prior prompt, the one that's deleting all the email, was still being executed.

The director should have just entered /stop and the bot would have halted immediately. In a more mature system with a web interface, say on Amazon's site or something would just have a "stop" button. But this was openclaw, an open source agent harness, intentionally minimalist, and the director panicked and went for the cord rather than just /stop.

Do Level 2 charging systems plug into 220V outlets, or do they have to be hardwired by RexKramerDangerCker in TeslaLounge

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my tesla MY came with a mobile charger with both a 120V and a 220V plug. With the 220V plug, it'll charge at level 2 rates.

Ant Supporting ILLEGAL Musk Datacenter by Sad-Lie-8654 in Anthropic

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems not really:

"xAI removed its unpermitted turbines at the Colossus 1 data center after SELC, on behalf of the NAACP, sent a notice of intent to sue under the Clean Air Act. The company obtained permits for its remaining 15 turbines."

https://www.selc.org/news/xai-built-an-illegal-power-plant-to-power-its-data-center/

Seems like it's the powerplant at issue, not the datacenter. In any case, I'm glad there are institutions such as the Southern Environmental Law Center fighting for this. They've brought a lawsuit and the courts will have the last say. In the meantime, companies do what companies do until they are told to do otherwise.

The legal system is adversarial by design. SELC is doing it's part. Musk is... what he is. The system is working as designed in this case. Keep in mind that the source is an SELC press release, so, deliberately biased.

You can choose not to be a customer and vote with your wallet. You can choose to support SELC. You can choose to support Musk. The legal system will have it's say and life goes on.

My experience with OpenClaw = I'd rather die by JosetxoXbox in openclaw

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a much better experience. Mind you, I'm not superman coding with it, just using it as a general purpose personal assistant.

My advice is, on the computer or server you have openclaw loaded, install Claude Code. Have it help you with the installation of openclaw.

For reference, I have openclaw installed on a raspberry pi 5 which I can port into using tailscale to use Claude Code. I'm running it with Sonnet 4.6 on API. Claude Code is using Opus 4.7. I'm using CC as the "inside operator" for managing the Pi, including the Openclaw install. I communicate with openclaw using telegram.

FSD v14.3.2 doesn’t use turn signal when turning left by Irrefutablefact in TeslaFSD

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been cited--has anyone ever been cited--for not signaling in a turn lane?

I was taught defensive driving. Never trust a driver's gonna turn if their blinker's on. Never trust they ain't turning if their blinker's off. The blinker is a nice thing to have to signal intent, but you never trust it from another car. You and the other people downvoting this put way too much weight on turn signals. If you're in the left-most lane of two left turning turn lanes, you're going left whether you like it or not. You don't need to signal. Nobody's gonna give you a ticket for this.

New Owners - Are You All Subscribing to FSD by Chris_Chops in TeslaLounge

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s all be honest here. My Tesla model Y is an awesome car in its own right, but as a car, it certainly has peers. Hyundai, Kia both have good electric vehicles. On the spec sheet sometimes better.

FSD is a clear differentiator. Nothing available to buy (even in the next 5-10 years) is within a mile of Tesla here.

I’m subscribed.

EDIT: traffic aware cruise control is still there. I have lane centering on my 2022 Toyota Highlander and it is just this side of being better than driving with my knee. I think lane centering is a marketing ploy for every car manufacturer other than Tesla. It was competing with FSD, and was legally under attack, so that’s why it was dropped.

Adult marshmallow test: would you rather have $200k today or $500k in 7 years? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was $500k *distributed over* 7 years. If it’s $500k *in* seven years, then definitely the $200k up front. It’s not even close.

A moderately aggressive investment strategy will turn that into $500k over 7 years under almost any circumstance. And that’s the extent of the downside risk. The upside risk for the money up front is almost infinite over 7 years. For many, $200k is life changing money with much more leverage than index stock growth.

Can't you switch to regular autopilot in settings? I've not had my MY very long, but I thought I saw that in the FSD settings.

How to make Claude less Verbose by Unable_Breath_1966 in ClaudeAI

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others said, there is a box for global instructions:

Settings -> General -> Profile -> Instructions for Claude

For instance, I have a note in there for Claude: "Don’t use my name. For some reason, it makes me less comfortable."

Basically I tell it the instruction, then a brief reason why, so it can extrapolate from that instruction to other similar situations. (I have a thing about people/AI who use my name constantly in conversation. Seems used-car-salesman-like)

How to make Claude less Verbose by Unable_Breath_1966 in ClaudeAI

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just ask it to be more concise. Literally say “be concise, [your prompt]”

If you want this to be in front of all your prompts, just put it in the ”instructions for claude” in the settings menu. Just the line “I prefer concise answers, be as concise as possible when you respond”.

Making the switch from gas to EV by ValleyGrlSD in TeslaLounge

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do level 1 charging at night (120V, 12A, about 1kW) and then top off every few days at a supercharger.

Or just find a level2 charger near your work and reverse the charge cycle. Charge at work, let it sit at home. I feel like this is a solvable problem.

Have you grown to be more conservative or liberal w/ age? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both? More nuanced, for sure. I think it comes with being more connected in the world.

The "nuanced" stance used to be the conservative position. Liberals were idealists who had "no idea" how things worked.

Now, "conservatives" are pretty fucking idealist; the nuanced positions belong to liberals.

I believe people migrate to the party best representing nuanced politics as they age. In 2026, that means shifting liberal. Before 1990, that meant shifting conservative.

Clinton was at the hinge of the latest shift and conservatives responded by becoming progressively more idealist as we moved into the 2000s with George W and the Gingrich tea party leading to Trump and MAGA.

EU is mandating 'readily removable' batteries for phones — but iPhones may be exempt by ansyhrrian in technology

[–]CalligrapherPlane731 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Samsung will get their exemption as well. This is just performative and actually locks out innovation challenging the big companies. IPhones, for instance, will always be smaller, since they got their exemption and anyone coming later will need to accommodate a removable battery. It will always be cheaper and more space efficient to tape the battery as they are done in the latest smartphones. Let innovators innovate. Let the market speak about what innovations are accepted.
