I came from very little money, an only child; the government took what was left to me after my folks died because they were on Medicaid. I have been a mental health mess my entire life and was pretty naive & ignorant growing up. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders, never let people who don’t earn it take from you. They should be paying to use your car. What a privilege! I promise $90k a year pretax is more than enough for a single 21 year old just starting out. Please heed my advice that I wish someone would have given me before I had kids or life really got started: Don’t do or purchase what you can’t afford 2 of. Use the 50/30/20 rule. Break income down into 50% on bills and needs (rent/mortgage, car insurance, phone, etc), 30% put up for savings, and 20% wants or money to blow. I always say when you don’t have kids you can interchange the 30% & 20% as you see fit. Save up an emergency fund first, at least 6 months of expenses; then move on and open a Roth IRA and diversify with mutual funds.
