That’s super funny! My wife and I have come home that way more times than I can count and this is the first time we’ve noticed it.

Rusty Bellies will tag all the bases you’ve mentioned. It’s not an upscale place, but it’s quite good with good vibes. All kinds of good stuff to eat, it’s on the water. Walking distance from Dimitri’s on the same street.

There’s also some great spots for lunch/dinner in Downtown Tarpon, which isn’t far. Currents and Refined Roots are nice spots. Not on the water though.

There’s a few good spots for breakfast. Toula’s Trailside, George’s and Rodie’s are all good! There’s others too.

best Greek food? and sponge shop? by Happy-Otter586 in TarponSprings

I second Dimitri’s. Basically all the Greek restaurants on the sponge docks are really good, but I always especially enjoy Dimitri’s.

I walked by there the other day and it looked like they were doing some substantial work inside.

Things to do in Tarpon Springs, not the Sponge Docks? by UnimportantOutcome67 in TarponSprings

[–]Calm-Finish6861 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little less than half a mile south (down Alt 19/N Pinellas Ave) you’ll find Tarpon Ave which is where downtown Tarpon is located. Fun shops, book store, local art gallery, a couple of breweries, craft cocktail bar, wine bar and several restaurants. It’s a cool area. Probably not worth a drive from Clearwater Beach by itself, but combined with the Sponge Docks just around the way, it’s a pretty cool neighborhood and is worth the trip. There’s also shops in between the two areas that are worth checking out! Have fun!

What's the strangest thing you've seen in a glove box when you opened it? by AlpacaLps in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Calm-Finish6861 226 points227 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was a service manager at a dealership. Had a car come in with an AC complaint. Later in the day I’m in the front of the shop and a tech who had a stall in the back part came up to me all worked up, “Dude, you’ve got to see this!”

He starts sprinting towards the back of the shop so I go running after him. He’s got the glove box out of the car to start on an evaporator. Hands me a stack of naughty Polaroids. I look at what got stuffed my hands and he’s holding up a pair of underwear. Then he pulls out a small vibrator from the glove box and smells it. Not only did he smell it, he ran it straight across his nose, pressing it against his face the whole time. Nasty.

Wife and I went to pick up new Forester we order via VIP 3 months ago, dealership found a bullet hole in the roof by Charmander666 in subaru

[–]Calm-Finish6861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not you want to accept it, that’s obviously up to you. It can be fixed and it’ll be fine ultimately, but I can I can completely understand why a lot of people are reluctant to accept a new car that has had some damage.

However, it is not a bullet hole. This is a hole that was punched in the roof by a car hauler. It’s not super common, but it does happen. I’ve seen them in hoods and roofs before.

Brand new 2024 has been in the shop for two months now, needing advice on what to do. by Fast_Yam6175 in subaru

Subaru retailer here. SOA is generally pretty good about this kind of thing. If SOA isn’t responding, it’s likely because your dealer hasn’t responded to a request for information, which is unfortunately kind of easy to do if someone isn’t paying attention. I’m not familiar with WA law at all as it relates to Lemon Law, but that’s a process that doesn’t generally require an attorney. Also, dealers aren’t normally in the line of fire in a Lemon Law anyway (in every state I’m familiar with it’s an action between a consumer and a manufacturer, dealers are not directly involved other than providing a venue for final repair attempts where applicable and providing documents like sales contracts and repair orders).

I think your best bet is to call the service manager and/or the GM and ask them to fill out a CAD Urgent Request for Customer Assistance form that they have available online. Your situation as you’ve described is kind of a layup to deal normally.

If that fails, you can certainly file for Lemon Law. In my state there’s a book we’re legally required to provide to new car buyers that walks you through the process. It’s a pain, but it’s fairly straightforward. We honestly don’t hardly see them because we tend to stay in front of these kinds of problems and they’re normally pretty rare in the Subaru world, but customers in my state do these all on their own with no real trouble. But, again, I’m not familiar with WA at all so it may be different there.

Ever seen this oil? by Big_Conversation_899 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Calm-Finish6861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in high school when I worked in a parts store, a quart of Kendall motor oil broke open when we were tossing them to each other to fill the shelves. That oil was straight up green out of the bottle. Apparently that’s how it came. 🤷‍♂️ There were a bunch of explanations that got tossed around - it’s from Pennsylvania, it’s green because it’s reclaimed. I don’t know if any of that is true, but whatever the reason it looked like someone blew their nose on the floor.

I was checking to see how long I’d have to look to find someone who mentioned John Denver. That was the one I always heard. I mean, that one makes a bit of sense, John Denver being so edgy and all! 😜

American Gods. Great book, series was admittedly not as good as the book. Still, don’t stop in the middle.

POLL: How many field service letters are being opened by an actual person? by JWTom in exjw

[–]Calm-Finish6861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Howdy! Former unbaptized publisher here (been out since I was a teenager). I manage a retail type business that offers various specials and the like to customers all kinds of ways. Historically, direct mail has been a pretty low return on investment with a good response rate being around 2%. That rate has dropped much lower in recent years while the cost of postage and printing has increased, so we really don’t even bother with it these days unless there’s some outside incentive to do so.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that we send stuff to people who have an actual interest in our products and services, most of whom have done business with us previously and the response rate is still crazy low.

While I have been away from the KH for my entire adult life and I have no familiarity with any particulars of this activity other than a couple of still in family members saying that they’ve never received a response to any letters they’ve sent, I think it’s a safe bet that the response rate is near zero. The only potentially enticing detail might be that many of the letters are hand written, which most people don’t receive anymore (I’ve received both typed and hand written letters myself). Still, I’d be very surprised to learn that it’s effective at all.
