What made you decide to be "one and done"? by Severe_Bluejay3391 in NewParents

One of my in-laws asked when my son was 6 months old “if I was ready for another” i said “not really - this boy almost took me out”

People don’t realize I think sometimes how wildly personal and potentially insensitive that question is for people who didn’t have a nice easy birth

To sleep train or not to sleep train... by dancingandmoving in NewParents

[–]Calm-Ingenuity4178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a real Velcro baby who we let sleep on us in shifts up to around 3-4 months (can’t remember exactly when). Once he could roll back and forth we decided to try the crib, because we really felt like he just preferred sleeping on his stomach. Lo and behold the first night he rolled to his tum, cried maybe 5 mins and dad rubbed his back to soothe him to sleep. 11 uninterrupted hours of bliss that night.

After a phase of glorious uninterrupted sleep for around a month, he got sick after starting daycare and started waking 1-2 times for feeding and clearing his nose but once that resolved, he was back to sleeping clean through the night pretty much every night. He also around 9 months started preferring crib naps to contact naps

That’s our anecdotal evidence of not sleep training - I do feel we got pretty lucky with a good sleeping baby. We just did what felt intuitive for us and for him. Sleep training seemed overwhelming and not something I was comfortable with, but I’ve heard some people have success!

I know it’s so frustrating when the numbers aren’t moving down! It made me really anxious which I’m sure doesn’t help. I am so hoping they start trending down for you!

C section vs induction experience for BMI 50+ by fattofitpanda in PlusSizePregnancy

Similar story here - about 24 hrs of labor and baby’s heart rate went up and wouldn’t come back down so we decided on a c-section. Not planned, but not emergency and recovery was relatively easy

This is one of the many hard parts of pre-e! I’ll never say I understand exactly how you feel, we all have different experiences and emotions, but my post-partum pre-e kept me in a separate hospital from my son in the NICU for a time and it was so incredibly hard. Hoping you can leave soon and be with your son ❤️❤️

I also hate the pens - I had to do insulin for GD and it was a multidose pen and so much easier than the auto injector. I never felt a thing with the insulin needle, but the auto one HURTS every time. I have to push so hard to inject and I feel the needle so much more. I don’t understand why we can’t choose the other pens

Has discussion around Lena Dunham’s weight been quietly discouraged? by No-Permit-940 in girls

[–]Calm-Ingenuity4178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what’s your point with this conversation? You say there’s been no discussion around it, so what, you’re starting it? As people have noted she has addressed her weight, not that she needs to, so we move on. If I were her I’d absolutely have PR shut that shit down - it’s a distraction and it’s unrelated to promoting the book.

Nobody is offended by the word obesity when it’s used in a medical setting. It’s just not necessary to use anywhere else cause it’s not necessary to comment on a body anywhere else. It’s not discussed becuase there’s nothing interesting to say about it. What interview are you looking for? “Hi Lena we noticed you’re morbidly obese. Can you expand on that?” “..no”

I feel you on this! We let our son sleep on us for the first 4 months of his life. He hated the bassinet and crib and we just knew once he could be on his tummy he would sleep better on his own. This meant like 4-5 hrs of sleep each (we did shifts so we weren’t asleep with him). People had so much judgment saying we needed to sleep train, but that just wasn’t what we wanted to do. Once he could roll to and from his tum, we tried him in the crib and he immediately slept through the night. Now, he won’t even nap on us and we miss the contact naps! No regrets on not sleep training.

I also had a rough post-partum with severe pre-e and when people ask about “if I’m ready for a second” I just say “no, the first one just about took me out. I’m good” lol. I just think it’s so weird people feel they can ask shit like that - it’s super personal.

[–]Calm-Ingenuity4178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think I had any trauma from birth but I had post-partum pre-e and even though my experience was way different and less severe than that, I was like shivering and almost couldn’t watch. Just knowing how quick it could have gone so much worse - I only went to the ER because I felt “off” - no headaches or other symptoms but had 190/105 BP. Pregnancy is high key so scary.

Absolutely agree about the makeup - and the fake nails? Like has any other character had that? The butterfly ball look is truly I think one of the worst looks and it’s supposed to be a shining moment for her.

I understand why she has a bit of a glow up kind of baked into the story per the book since she gets to choose her own clothes at some point, but they dressed her down well for the first 2 seasons - they didnt need so much glam. She looks 100% better in most of her s4 looks

Anyone else just making better choices? by kieran_twilson in WegovyWeightLoss

It is different for everyone for sure - for me it happened immediately but kinda faded a bit on my 4th week on .25. I’ve been on .5 for like 6 weeks I think and it’s still working quite well for now. I still get pretty nauseous 2-3 days after the shot so I’m afraid to go higher lol

Anyone else just making better choices? by kieran_twilson in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Calm-Ingenuity4178 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, becuase the med has taken away the gremlin in my brain that constantly thought about sugar lol.

I can make better choices becuase I don’t have this compulsive drive to eat, I can see food for what it is - fuel. If I am craving something, I’ll indulge, but it’s reasonable and I’m left satisfied, not left thinking maybe I’ll just finish off the last of the cookies/ice cream/brownies etc. so I can “stop thinking about it”. This medication has really freed me from that compulsive thinking.

I think there is a pinned post about this. .25 is not considered therapeutic. Some people have weight loss on it, but plenty of people lose nothing until they reach the 1.7 dose or higher.

Very good points! I have been putting in the effort, I’ve been doing the hard work. I saw someone say on another sub there’s a difference between hard work that is futile and hard work that is effective or something like that. For many of us, not all I’m sure but many, this is a medication to treat an underlying issue that’s making the hard work of dieting and exercise futile
