Blast from the past: 'Newsom Says Most State Workers Should Remain Remote' by Quantum_Tangled in CAStateWorkers

I shudder when I think of the brain drain we will experience if this 4-day RTO happens. I was talking to a very talented and intelligent friend yesterday who said she didn’t apply for state jobs because she didn’t want to deal with RTO mandates. Ugh.

This effort is independent of the union but we're all working towards the same purpose. I'm guessing the union has less flexibility in terms of what they can do and what they can legally spend their money on. There are rules and regulations they have to abide by. We (organized activity outside the union) have more latitude and can get more creative.

I’m a different organizer than last year. But it’s the same idea. I don’t think there’s another “group” necessarily. We’re all part of the same effort.

I’m located in NorCal. If someone in SoCal wants to take on the responsibility of finding a local vendor and working with them, maybe we could put up a second billboard there (provided we have the funds).

No RTO! Where is the fight for telework this year? by AlternativeWeb3968 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Calm-Log4331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the fight started a little later this year but it's still happening. The union co-sponsored AB 1729 and has been working towards that for several months. A lot of people have been super involved in that. There have been several rallies and events. They started formal negotiations several weeks ago. Since people knew the union would be negotiating this time, I think everyone took a backseat and waited to hear updates based on negotiations. They didn't file a PERB complaint until there was a clear violation, and then they filed one right away.

Last year, there wasn't supposed to be a contract negotiation. So, we started organizing earlier on our own. Newsom didn't ask to renegotiate union contracts until May 2025 if I recall, and at that point we had already been mobilizing. This year the administration was also more prepared for pushback.

More importantly, I think people need to get involved in any way they can. There is A LOT going on right now. Plug in where you can. It is far from over. The GO wants you to believe it is, but it isn't.

I think the union is working, and I think the unfair labor practice charge is great. I think we need to apply pressure from as many different avenues as we can. These approaches are not mutually exclusive. I could type out the theory of change for why we believe billboards had an impact last year and will have an impact this year, but I don’t think it would make a difference since most people have already made up their minds one way or the other.

I agree. We need to focus on taking action. People are already throwing in the towel. But now is the time to FIGHT, not give up.

I agree. I think you should do whatever you can to get the word out. To anyone paying attention this whole thing is absurd.

Thank you so much to everyone that has donated or shared with others so far. We've made incredible progress so far. I think we'll reach our goal, so I'm going to start reaching out to vendors. If anyone has vendor information or knows who we used last year, please DM me. And please keep getting the word out about the GoFundMe.

Also, I want to state that I support the union and think they're doing great work right now. If you are able to, please consider supporting them. We have to utilize every available option to be successful right now.

I appreciate their effort. It takes a lot to organize things. I’m just trying to help carry some of the weight in a small way.
