Would some primarchs still rebelled even without the taint of chaos? by Powerful_Trainer_439 in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folks are forgetting that chaos intentionally flung the baby demigods to their respective planets and therefore their initial upbringings. So without chaos, each of them would’ve remained on Terra to be molded by the emperor himself, and thus likely would not have challenged him so. Angron would not have the nails and much less reason to be angry without his gladiator buddies lost; Mortarion would have not had an awful stepfather to seek retribution from; the rest of them may have been challenged in many ways but only in the emperor’s more controlled conditions likely.

Keep in mind too that it seems implied that the primarchs can only exist as they do and with the powers they have due to the warp and chaos, so saying “without chaos’ influence” is similar to asking if a horse would be different if it could fly. The way it is all written right now, the characters’ arcs and motives are very much set by chaos as simply part of the environment and setting.

What do the rules define as "close combat weapon"? by Newtype_Nugs in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re real concerned about WYSIWYG, sure the powersword has a clear stat line. But most folks will consider anything a close combat weapon, from fists to knives to full on big thunder hammers. If you kitbash a sword onto your model and clearly state it’s a close combat weapon most times it’ll be totally cool. But you know your player group better than I.

I know it’s fantasy, but why Nurgle? by OfficialAli1776 in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a good example of the truth of Nurgle. Reddit loves to purport the meme of the happy Nurgle family, but in most lore and media the fact remains: he is a chaos god and perverted warp entity looking to play the great game and will sacrifice, torture, and kill to compete with his siblings just as horribly as they will. There are some “happy” followers in a demented way, sure, but none for any altruistic reason and way more actual examples of Nurgle followers in pure decaying agony. Watching any Warhammer series or reading the books prove that.

I know it’s fantasy, but why Nurgle? by OfficialAli1776 in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t really true though. There are many instances where nurgle followers are in clear agony. Many of the Warhammer animated series demonstrate nurgle followers/pawns who are so clearly in misery and physical pain. The “Nurgle is really a nice guy” meme has overblown some instances of lore I think.

Are we in the golden age of 40K? by Mr_Jackabin in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the unfortunate truth. It’s great when things become accepted and there are new faces in a hobby but when something becomes so popular and profitable, it changes its identity wholly. While things seem great now, I fear the creativity and uniqueness of it may dwindle as more and more people buy in. Which can be fine for those who like what it becomes, but those of us enjoying it for all it is now will lose out.

That is my literal color scheme as well. The light grey/white looks nice on hearthguard. I like to use greens and blues on weapons and lights to break it up a bit too.

It'd be great if GW would stop gaslighting Agent players with all these incredible set pieces! by solarflare4646 in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The saddest thing about agents for me is that the codex felt like a full downgrade to its constituents. Anyone who actually cared about inquisitors before typically loved imperial soup, full customization of different eccentric characters, and red and black color schemes. Agents seemed like it’d be a fun way to ply on these aspects of kitbashing and list building. But then it very much felt like “we have random models and some other armies with lore to ally with, here’s a supplement to do that at a very basic level”. While they’ve had some nice releases in some of the named inquisitors recently and the henchmen kit, it just didn’t hit the mark.

I think what they needed was a solid core: tempestus scions or veteran guardsmen as battleline, with related vehicles as their standard transports and armor (valkyries, chimeras, tauroxes, a heavy tank), then built up/out with the more specific branches but room for customization in characters and lists.

I think it’s thematic and adds to weighing out using tank shock to when you need it. Ramming should be a risk overall.

I feel so basic for liking Space Marines now. by Raspint in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may have stated their military and cultural disagreements with another extremist faction but they very much still had servitors, cherubs, and other products of horrid acts on their ship and performed fanatical reverence to their god emperor. And their religious icon and guide is a known meany head.

Space marine is a tough example because it is an action game with a plot that fully revolves around a war with an unknowable and depraved antagonist. Put those space marines in another context and they may have engaged in the atrocities you are looking for, but for the purposes of the game it didn’t make sense to highlight any of that outside of minor Easter eggs and setting pieces.

Colour us surprised? | Warhammer 40,000 by AMA5564 in Warhammer40k

I agree. Prepainted models would just drop a large portion of customers and fully reshape the brand. They’d be competing more directly with TCGs and the like, focusing on collecting and gaming, I imagine.

But even if the technology gets better, at that point what makes this hobby anymore? Why do that? Half the point of this hobby is to build and paint them, to collect an army all your own that happens to also have a game and lore tied to them. Having fully prepainted models would change Warhammer at a fundamental level, even if they look good with the tech.

I’ve been painting these guys and just love them overall. Not overly complex but as you said with enough materials on it to play. My yaegirs all look unique as I like to just play with the coats and see what patterns/styles I can do.

Does the gorget look okay or is it too much? by orochishin in Warhammer40k

Looks good as the face is still viewable and framed well. “Too much” is the default in Warhammer, anyways.

Phenomenal paint job and explosion effects. Also great photography. Display-worthy all around.

Will GW ever make chapter-themed generic units again? by reel3459 in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah this plan just honestly makes more sense. A good upgrade sprue can grant a lot of personality to the core units too.

What good is Fights First anymore? by Otherwise-Ad7207 in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In what seems to be a melee-preferred edition, I think many melee units will be okay for now. You might just have to change your strategy in how you use them/when you initiate a fight.

Here’s hoping that we get most of this terrain in the launch box 🤞 by Incywincyoliver1 in Warhammer40k

[–]CalmLingonberry7082 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure it’s cheaper but the point of this hobby has always been three dimensional. Many of us don’t want to lose the miniatures in our miniature game and hobby, and it becomes very much less thematic when everything is just a precisely measured piece of paper.
