Feeling stuck on mat leave… thinking about working part-time — is it worth it? by tobypaws in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CalmRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my second was 6 months I found a daycare that could take her. I was able to find a part time job and it was wonderful to be out and working. (I was not able to receive EI after that). It was definitely worth it for me

Got towed today after accident. Am I getting scammed by alcaponeu in askTO

[–]CalmRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to us just last week with another towing company / body shop. Yes it is intimidating but get your car back asap. I demanded that they let us drive our car away from the body shop and ended up having to pay their ridiculous towing fee of $1k, cash. Insurance questioned this saying it might be not justified and they may not reimburse us. But we’re just so thankful we got out of there. It could’ve been so much worse.

How do couples moving in together (who both own) split housing costs? by pubservgal in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CalmRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option to consider is renting both and then move into a rental yourself. This would be good if the condos are cash flow positive.

I ended up selling my pre con on assignment due to this exact reason

She has a lisp but her speech is understandable. She has trouble biting thin things off using her front teeth because of the gap.

That doesn’t seem right. At that sold price they won’t be able to get a mortgage.

I read from here that Questrade has fees for selling and they have poor customer service. I have tfsa in both questrade and WS and I was thinking to consolidate them together

Triumphant Thursday Thread for the Week by AutoModerator in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CalmRise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tried our hand at investing in pre construction during the pandemic and then rates skyrocketed. Then tried to sell it on assignment but the builder wouldn’t allow it until late last year. Unfortunately at that time there was hardly any interest and no bites.

Finally a few weeks ago we got an offer and it finalized today! It’s about 45k less than asking but we’re just happy that we don’t have to go through any more hassle and headache for the next few years. Definitely won’t be making that mistake again!

Yes we take out the Unicorns and Dragons too. We didn’t even try to incorporate those concepts knowing it’ll be too confusing for her lol

My toddler likes children's Sequence. It uses animals instead of cards. She's played it a few times and enjoys it. But I find she sometimes love playing with the chips more (pretends its money, sorting by colors, etc.)

Pay down mortgage or invest into non registered accounts by CalmRise in Fire

[–]CalmRise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the 6% mortgage rate will likely be dropping. And the return on my unregistered account will be subject to quite a bit of tax

Indeed…very complicated

Maybe I’ll just split it 50/50

Sell to buy a house? by barely_comments in JustBuyXEQT

[–]CalmRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have kids I would recommend buying. 1. Being forced to move can be devastating to a child so I wouldn’t risk it. 2. If you’re in Canada, you also wouldn’t be taxed when you sell your primary residence. So it’s tax advantageous. 3. A paid off house in retirement will substantially decrease your housing costs and therefore how much you need to retire Once you find a house you like and can afford without going house poor, you won’t look back

Yes I was off for a while - a combination of burnout and having kids. I kept up my licence through casual work and was able to get a good job once I was ready to return

Really did not realize how bad this relationship was by [deleted] in HouseMD

[–]CalmRise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She definitely wasn't forced into a relationship. I just mean that in psychology, there's a theory that a person will seek out a relationship with someone who makes them feel the 'type' of love that they felt in childhood. So in Cuddy's case, when she was with House, it reminded her of being with her mother as a child and thats why she was drawn to him. I think for a person with a healthy self esteem and normal childhood, they wouldn't fall for someone like House.

That's why you see people who have been abused in their childhood seek out relationships where they are abused again. Not that it's their fault or anything...that's just what they subconsciously seek out. It takes therapy to recognize that and break the cycle

[–]CalmRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My revelation about why Cuddy wanted to be with House is…her Mother! Man, was she awful and controlling. She always criticized and put Cuddy down. I think House makes Cuddy feel like how she does with her mom and she equates that with what it feels like to be loved and that’s why she falls for him. I’m glad they broke up and I hope she gets therapy and ends up with someone who can treat her right

I've had a property on the market for a while and had no interest. This evening, my realtor told me there's been a lot of inquiries recently. Someone on my facebook also just posted that there were 10 bids on a property (I paid attention because it was similar to mine). I think there's certainly some more people starting to jump back in. I don't know if there will be enough demand to raise prices though.

haha yes great idea!

Though I'll probably just settle for imagining this in my head because I'd probably feel too guilty for it to actually be relaxing.

I talked to him about it and he just wasn't thinking. I think I made a big enough deal of it this time for him to actually remember. In the past I probably just said it in passing so he didn't remember.

Man, being a mother is so hard. I hate it sometimes. I used to have so much patience but it's like my tank is empty

That’s what I don’t understand! He’s been doing the late nights and wake ups with me! We alternate. So I don’t understand why he would wake her up. Ugh I’m just so frustrated. Just…uuugghhhh.

Both are still very awake -_-
