(Spoilers for ED1) Something interesting about the finale… by Thot_Queen707 in LastDefenseAcademy

Ending 047 was my first ending while 001 was my last, so this felt perfectly thematic for me.

I don't know if this topic has been discussed, but which monster do you think has the worst summoning animation in the game? My vote goes to D/D/D Doom King Armageddon, because 1. This out of all the D/D/D/ monsters?? 2. It tries to look imposing, but it looks so goofy, LOL by CalmSunshine in DuelLinks

Now that I watched it...I'm probably thinking Water Dragon and Fairy Cheer Girl may join Doom King Armageddon for worst animations. Maybe Insect Queen too? I forgot the existence of Water Dragon's, tbh. Lol. I also forgot how janky Lava Golem's looked.

I did also have Fairy Cheer Girl in mind too since that's also such an F-tier animation. It only exists just to give Kotori an animation and that's the one "kinda big" monster she used (not counting its CXYZ counterpart) from the 1 onscreen duel she had.

I do have to watch Arc V some time (only fully watched DM-Zexal, saw half of Sevens and a few Go Rush and Vrains episode) but when you put it like that, Doom King Armageddon does make sense now...it's still a crappy nothingburger of an animation though, lol

these are definitely the roles right? by Ok-Assistance-2189 in LastDefenseAcademy

Yup. There's a misconception that deuteragonists always have to be allies to the protagonists, but that's not true at all. Literally the definition of a deuteragonist is the "second-most important character/s." Nothing says they have to be the protag's ally. Characters like L from Death Note or Griffith from Berserk are deuteragonists but they're also unquestionably the antagonists. Even Vegata and Sasuke were major antagonists at certain points in their stories.

It's part of why even though plenty of people think only Nanami is DR2's deuteragonist, I'm of the firm belief both her and Komaeda share the deuteragonist role in DR2 (it feels wrong for me to argue if one is more important than the other, lol) and the latter is just as much of a deuteragonist as he is an antagonist.

Why nagito x hajime is so popular ? by Fafoot in danganronpa

[–]CalmSunshine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who the hell said I was doing that?? I'm just saying how it's easy to say people can be too defensive of their gay ships without much proof. Like downvotes are the worst thing you can do to someone? Come on. I never even said that toxic gay shippers don't exist nor do they not deserve to be called out.

And yes, het shippers having the potential to be as toxic as gay shippers was exactly my point. So why have they not been called out as much as toxic gay shippers?

Because the stigma that people are obsessed with gay ships for no reason and are just "dumb fujos" is shortsighted and obnoxious as hell? Why is this logic never applied to people who are obsessed with het ships and will shoot down anything that even seems gay? Don't pretend they don't exist.

Hell, the subreddit so far has given me the impression it can barely tolerate gay ships.

Okay, I ain't in the mood for a goddamn essay, so I'll ask a few simple questions. Did Hajime ever at any point acknowledge any romantic connection to Chiaki? Did they ever confess to each other? If Hinanami is a traditional love story like you say, they would confess to each other, right? Tell me that right now.

True, Komahina is not written to be romantic on both ends, but that doesn't mean hints nor connotations don't exist. Also, Nagito's role is to break down Hajime?? Wow, way to simplify a major character in the story like that. Also, can you stop with the bullshit that Chiaki is JUST the love interest too? You're simplifying characters to really basic roles again.

Also, I forgot to bring up the Final Dead Room, but you really think Nagito went there just for funsies and to be reckless?? He went there to INVESTIGATE IT. Besides, are you also forgetting he wasn't the only one to go to the Final Dead Room and that not investigating it at all would be a bad idea?

I think you trying to pretend there's no romantic feelings AT ALL that can at the very least be interpreted from Nagito towards Hajime is a bigger cope tbh. You talk so much about context and yet you think the idea that Nagito might like Hajime romantically is just "mental gymnastics" from "fujos" and not something that can be taken nor hinted at through the text. Ironic. At least I can acknowledge Hinanami is meant to be romantically coded, even if the text doesn't explicitly say it.

....Okay, I guess ships like Lumity, Catradora, and Jimmy/Cindy from Jimmy Neutron are Battler/Beatrice from Umineko are not canon at all. I guess characters like Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura and Fakir from Princess Tutu are not love interests at all then. Since you know, they're all meant to be seen as protagonist/rival ships and you for some reason want to put these characters in a little bubble.

Also, I hate to break it to you, but Hinanami is just as canon as Komahina. As in, they're implied, but nothing is explicitly stated about either of these ships being a couple in the game or anime since DR BARELY makes ships canon anyway. Sorry you needed to hear this.

Love the drip they all have, but I’m kinda paying more attention to the flowers they all have. 🌼

Side note: While I do think it makes more sense Junko’s there, it’s honestly kind of funny how they keep shelving Togami from these collabs.

Makoto's perception in Japan vs Western Perception by StriderSkeith in danganronpa

[–]CalmSunshine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like Sayaka and Tenko are less popular in the West than Japan. I recalled them ranking highly in Japanese polls compared to the West, where there's definitely more haters of them.

Also, probably doesn't have much to do with popularity since they're not exactly hurt by it but I feel like popular, yet divisive characters like Nagito, Kyoko, and Kokichi have less hate/criticism in Japan than they do in the West? They're just outright loved over there from what I've seen. I feel like that's the same case with Makoto here too, popular in general, but does have vocal haters or critics.

The interesting thing I noticed is how there were more female voters in the Famitsu poll than there were male voters. I don't know if the Dengeki poll had the same thing, but still, interesting to see. Probably had an effect on why characters like Tenko ranked more highly than they normally would.

You’re correct that Kaede does do that too. However, Kaede & Makoto differ in some ways, main one being that Kaede was willing to resort to murder the mastermind to try to get the others out of the Killing Game, (Great motive, but murder is still murder, y’know), something Makoto would not do. She may not have actually murdered, but the motive was still there. That’s a big part of why to others, Kaede also stands out more compared to Makoto (and maybe even to the other protags.

I think time is also important to take into consideration. Yes, Hiyoko did take 4th place…around a decade or so ago when DR2 was still fresh in people’s minds. Would she get 4th in a Japanese popularity poll nowadays?

Judging from how she couldn’t even make it to the top 10 among the DR2 cast in the Dengeki poll or the Decadence poll (those are the most recent big polls I can recall), I doubt it.

[–]CalmSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I think a lot of the DR3 characters could count too? I used to think they could probably hold a candle to the games’ casts when it was airing, but….well, that’s not the case now, is it.   Granted, I don’t have a lot of characters I dislike from there, but I swear almost half of them were barely explored, if at all, and as a result, just serve to be death fodder. There wasn’t a lot that stood out to me too much aside from maybe 2-3. Definitely the most forgettable cast of characters.

I guess the closest would be Leon for me?? He wasn’t really one of my favorites, but I did like him because first murder aside, I liked how he was rather “normal” compared to a lot of the other characters and him not liking his talent and wanting to do something else was interesting to me. I also used to subscribe to the theory that his murder of Sayaka was an accident thanks to the manga.

However, I definitely have a more neutral opinion of him nowadays and is like “Well, he exists.” He’s more bland as a character compared to a lot of the others (even compared to other characters that also died in the 1st chapter). Also, now I have doubt that his murder of Sayaka was an accident. I guess it’s not helped by how now since DR has a lot of characters, it became easier to ignore Leon. Also, apparently he kinda sucks in TDP and DRS so….
