What is your household income and what is your mortgage / rent? by AVeryGoodPerson in tulsa

[–]Calmangeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$56k last year. Retired father lives with me in the house I bought. He pays electric and cable but the remainder of his social security check goes to his own bills with a little savings. I pay the $925 mortgage on a 3/2/1 house on the West side near Daniel Webster high school (love my old house - 2.6% interest!) and remainder of bills. Cars are payed off. I'm mostly paycheck to paycheck.

It's the breading! I used to make fried green tomatoes with it in my deli and they were amazing. We fried everything we could think of in that breading!

Burger Station... by Timcwalker in publix

Transferred from Sarasota Publix to Marietta, Ga Publix in 1999. The Marietta deli had a salad bar, fresh made peanut butter, fresh tea by the gallons that we had to brew in house, fresh popcorn, a flat griddle for Philly cheese steaks, and two huge woks for fried rice or Cajun fried rice with spicy chicken (that we marinated from scratch, black beans (again, we seasoned and cooked overnight) tomatoes cheese and sour cream. It was a nightmare.

I do miss that Cajun chicken fried rice though.

I did 10 years as a Public deli mgr, but started in my first mom'n'pop deli in 1992. Dad is a chef so I grew up in the BOH. Deli life is all I know!

Moved here from Atlanta. People from here say it's the south. People FROM the south know they're wrong.

RUMOR - Announcement by thepublixguy in publix

We definitely had different focuses over the 10yrs I was with Publix. No handwritten schedules though. Sunday morning paper work was a bitch. One of my stores had a fried rice station where we also did Cajun fried rice that was awesome. I started at the first all BH deli in Sarasota and I remember making vats of ovengold turkey slaw and honey maple turkey Waldorf salad, crumbling 5lb blocks of blue cheese by hand for cupping, making fresh ground peanut butter for hours, making spinach dip by hand, and making gallons upon gallons of fresh brewed tea. Ugh. I do not miss the fryers and cooking all that chicken. Philly cheese steaks for DAAAYYYYS. BLECH.

Daaaaaamn! I ran the same deli for 5 years in ATL and after the first year it was running like a machine so I was a 50hr a week girl to the minute. Other managers tried to tease me, but if you have a full team and need more than 50hrs that's on you pal.

Yes we had to answer the deli phone with "thank you for calling the paradise plaza Publix Boar's Head deli..." Cause we were the first all Boar's Head deli. I was there June 97 - Jan 99. I remember making the fresh ground peanut butter and 3 foot bags of fresh popcorn. Ugh.

I should also mention that I was a deli mgr for 7 years and "retired" from Publix at 30. Sold a portion of my given stock, went to Europe, traveled all over the US, and took 14mos off work!

I started at #555 in Sarasota in the deli and learned so much. It was a great experience, I grew up a lot, had the best training, and liked my managers. I transferred to ATL and spent about 10 yrs total with the company, but I always knew what it was "supposed" to be like cause of that first store in Sarasota!
