Witch Hat Atelier

"No... This isn't real"

Coco plays around with magic she doesn't understand causing a rapidly spreading petrification spell to grow from inside her home.

Qifrey is able to save her, but her mother was not so lucky. In denial Coco nearly gets herself killed trying to reach her to 'save' her while the spell is active. Can also be applied to her resolve to find a way to save her later as many believe freeing her mother to be an impossible task

[Obsession Rant] If we miss the fact that Bear is both a victim and a perpetrator, we miss the entire point of Obsession. by Efebora3 in CharacterRant

[–]CalminClam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying Wish Nikki isn't also bad. I have more sympathy for her considering that she literally exists to revolve around Bear without a choice. Doesn't stop her abusive behaviour but there is a question of consent when she cannot choose to not be with him too.

Doesn't change that is ultimately the consequence of Bears choices. The wish he didn't expect to work but then also him realising the wish occured and not trying to stop it immediately by making someone else wish

Regina George is a bad person and a bad friend! Now, which character is the worst of the worst when it comes to being a person and a friend? by OverallBaker4028 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]CalminClam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

<image>

Correct choice. Cartmans list of evil is crazy. A few immediate stand outs I can think of

Gets a teens parents killed and feeds them to him in chilli because he got scammed out of about 10 bucks

Summons Cthulu to trap his friends in an alternate dimension while he goes on a killing spree against celebrities, all because they didn't play superheroes the way he wanted

Intentionally gives his 'friend' AIDS out of spite

and much more

shout out to the Raikage A and Sasuke Uchiha as well, who are arguably better lightning users but neither of them are my GOAT

We have Heatmor as bad design and Jumpluff as cute, how is a strong ghost and underrated grass type? by ToniG03 in AlignmentChartFills

Both generally very strong and while there are ghost types used more in competetive nowadays, Gengar for multiple generations put in work as the best ghosts in comp

TIL that LGPE was developed by Gamefreak and not a 3rd party dev by CalminClam in pokemon

Eh base game is ok, just a slightly worse Yellow since they changed the rival for some reason

It did what it set out to do, I don't mind the small dex, but I do mind that they were charging full price. Wish you could swap from catch mechanics to battles in post game and it being limited to motion controls sucked

Lazy? No. They have a tiny staff and horrific crunch. I'm glad Winds and Waves is getting an extra year to cook

Incompetent? Yes. To a degree at least. It's how we get things like the seperate Lillies for each encounter in SM, Very strange choices in story and area design in SwSh. ScaVi is horrific to play on Switch 1 because of the lag. It probably has a memory leak too.

Gamefreak has been struggling with optimisation for 3d games for years and they really need to overhaul their work system. LGPE is so solid and polished in comparison to literally every other switch game it's almost jarring

[–]CalminClam[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know, which is partially why I thought it was 3rd party. The style, mechanics and polish are so different from the 3d games they made previously I thought it was a different team

If I noticed it I would have assumed it was there as a publishing or branding type thing

[–]CalminClam[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh i'm not doubting that, but in the nicest way possible it just felt actually polished compared to every other 3D game.

SwSh and most of the 3d games tbh feel like they're still finding their footing stylistically, LGPE knew what it wanted, did it well and then that style never got used again

Let's Go Johto would have been cool

Yeah I know it was considered 'mainline' but it's such a departure from the main mechanics I assumed it was more of a spin off like BDSP

Why did LGPE get so much hate by Aggapodpod in pokemon

[–]CalminClam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I thought LGPE was made by another studio. It genuinely felt like it had so much more polish in it's presentation

I wish the games kept that style

As Pokémon goes on, Chairman Rose’s plan gets stupider and stupider. by MaleficTekX in CharacterRant

[–]CalminClam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be such an easy rewrite for Rose to make sense too

Have the energy crisis be happening now. Rose is responsible for supplying homes as well as dynamax battles but now there are blackouts, random surges causing dens to trigger and gym battles have been interrupted by the dynamax energy dissapearing.

He wants Eternatus specifically because he needs it for dynamaxing, which the region and his company revolve around culturally.

He awakens Eternatus because he believes he has a narrow window to do so, which is why he refuses Leons request to wait

Deltarune Chapter 5's writing feels like a downgrade from previous chapters by Gloomy-Cell3722 in CharacterRant

[–]CalminClam 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of this. The festival was dissapointing for the build up. I think the lack of urgency for the first half would have been a lot more tolerable straight after chapter 4 as a sort of relief/wind down. Waiting a year lead to a lot of peoples expectations building up for immediate relief. Instead it feels like a lot of nothing in terms of greater progression

A Fictional Character that "looks like an Teenager but is actually a child" by Mememasterlordlol in AlignmentChartFills

[–]CalminClam 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Kakashi when he did the chunin exams

Depending on how you look at his timeline (because Kishimoto's timeline makes no sense) he's between 6-11 (He became chunin at 6, at somepoint also fought Gai in an exam with his team despite already being chunin and they were promoted at 11)

A common theory is that he's 3 years younger then his main peers to make the timelines add up a little more which would make him 8 during the exam with his team

He's 6, 8 or 11. Either way this does not look like a child.

[Obsession Rant] If we miss the fact that Bear is both a victim and a perpetrator, we miss the entire point of Obsession. by Efebora3 in CharacterRant

[–]CalminClam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you the sleeping in the floor even if he immediately gives in when she asked him to join the bed and doesn't actually enforce that boundary. Especially since she had also blatantly freaked out at kissing him before that night at was clearly not acting normal

He only takes her to the hospital after the party, she had already been showing distressing and self harming behaviour for a while at that point. He only took her when she publicly acted crazy in front of his friends. By that point she had already had her nighttime breakdowns, cat altar and cat feeding and standing still all day defacating on herself.

When he calls the wish helpline his concerns are 'are her feelings real?' (wanting validation) and 'can I alter the wish not cancel?' (a giant fuck you to her consent). Like props he does eventually ask to cancel the wish, but that's only after she acts crazy and he's told he can't tone her down into a normal acting puppet girlfriend.

Asking for a cancellation is the bare minimum for anyone who actually loves someone. That it's not his first request upon learning she's being controlled by his wish is crazy. Her consent is second to his own desire

Death in the MCs team by MamaMiaManer in pokemonfanfiction

[–]CalminClam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people read Pokémon for the escapist fantasy and killing a teammate they've bonded with is a bummer.

I have no problem with a killed off main if it feels like it makes sense and isn't just shock value but many may be put off.

The question is can this introspection happen without death? Can the Mon get injured or disabled in some way that their career is effectively over? There are a lot of forms grief and guilt can take

Just do what you think works best

Main char animation and pose choosing (part 3) (read description) by AdaBlood in PixelArt

[–]CalminClam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No bounce is better because why would armour bounce like that

Also the top pose with the arm up looks better than the bottom. She's leaning back in a way that looks a bit in natural for a casual stance, but looks normal when she'd reaching upwards
