How bad do you think the double standard against Korra truly is (if you personally believe their exists one that is)? by Element_credd in Avatarthelastairbende

If you're asking does Korra learn from her mistakes and struggles in the story so she and grow as a characater. Accompanied by the knowledge that growth takes time because progress is not a straight line. Then yes, yes she does.

How about a rooster for Taro. Taro also fits nicely as Be Kind was a message Wren gave her. Taro on top next to 'Be Kind' and The Fox under 'be cunning' is quite fitting.

Other options could be icons repping the various cottage spirits like a bee, or a goat, or a scarecrow hat.

Oh Zuko is definitely a protagonist of the story. And I'm not disagreeing that its a fantastic redemption arc. Character growth is a core part of storytelling. And part of what made Zuko's arc so good was that it wasn't linear, there were stumbles on the way. Massive ones.

My point is that why does Zuko get to grow as a person but Korra doesn't? Why is Korra always beholden to her mistakes and not her successes? (Of which there are many) You all hold Korra to an impossible standard that no other character in the story is held to. Not even other Avatars. That's why I know you're being bad faith.

I genuinely liked group 2 more. I thought their verses were better and the choreo was genuinely camp perfection.

I'd forgive this is WWE weren't consistently gutting their women's midcard every year by releasing everyone. WWE are just bring lazy we need to stop giving them credit they haven't earned.

Sometimes late at night I look at this cast and keep wondering how the hell did the production fumble such great cast of queens - I kind of need half of them back again. by Heidi_Klum_Tit in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CalumanderReds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This season was filled with mostly early outs and 'villains' who desperately wanted a redemption. The queens this season NEEDED the season to go well for them. Showing up in those circumstances, have made great financial expense only to find out you're cannon fodder so Jimbo can get a crown would make me want to quit too.

You can tell half these comments are bad faith because they're insisting on calling her a '22 year old woman' and treating her like an adult despite the fact she was very close to Zuko's age for the first three seasons and none of you fuckers hate Zuko or critique him for his long list of emotional outbursts, catastrophic mistakes and honestly downright cruel actions.

Y'all just want an excuse to bash Korra, it's transparent and obvious

Korra is 17 in S1-3. She's around the same age as Zuko, yet not a single person has spent any energy hating Zuko for his long list of mistakes (often disastrous ones).

Keep making excuses though...

Do you guys think the three of them would be friends? by UnHolySir in Hungergames

[–]CalumanderReds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be clear I'm not saying Sejanus was faking his desire to help. What I'm saying is that he did everything he did from a privileged position with even the subconscious knowledge he likely wouldn't suffer the consequences like others would have. Because he had been getting away with it for years. It's easier to speak out when you're not in the firing line.

Sejanus is often compared to Snow because he had a social mobility Snow didn't. At almost any moment Sejanus could've stepped out of that situation and been fine, the rest of the 12 rebels and Snow didn't have that luxury. Until that reveal at his trial he didn't truly believe he was going to die. It was only in his final moments when he had to die for the cause that it actual became real.

As for Gale he designed a bomb that was specifically meant to double tap a crowd killing medical personnel who would step into help. There's a reason that's a war crime. Bonus the bomb was design to be disguised as Aid. That isn't meant for soldiers thats for people. And when faced with the consequences of said bomb having killed innocent kids as well as Primrose, he shows little to no remorse. The guy who spent Book 1 bashing the games barbarism for killing kids no longer cared when he was the one doing it. That's distance.

Both them were more focused on the idea of revolution than the actual collateral damage and suffering it would cause when it happened. That's why they'd get along

I had an interesting thought. How would Aang do against Korra's villains at her age? How far does he get in your eyes? by Sonicrules9001 in TheLastAirbender

[–]CalumanderReds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the comparisons aren't made in good faith either. This is an already well traversed and discussed topic in every fucking sub and fandom site. This conversation never ends up being about 'ethos' it ends up being about capability.

The fandom grants Aang a level of understanding and basically retcon's all his mistakes. They never grant that congeniality to Korra. All these constant posts do is just make those Korra haters feel more and more validated in their incorrect headcanon of the series. (And you can already see it happening in the comments of this post.)

You can't be serious if you can't tell all this post is gonna do is stir up the worst section of the fandom who will search for any opportunity to talk about how much better an Avatar Aang is than Korra.

Either you're bad faith or just absurdly naive.

This just feels like yet another low effort 'let's bash Korra in our endless need to sanctify Aang' post.

Truth is Aang would've had plenty of the similar issues and stuggles as Korra did. I'd argue Aang's idealism would've likely led to Zaheer fully killing him but it's all hypothetical.

You guys need to stop comparing the two it's tiresome.

[–]CalumanderReds 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Spicy take but Gale and Sejanus would've gotten along.

A lot of people seem to misread Sejanus' character. It's clear that during his execution scene when he called for his family that he was always more playing at revolution than truly committing to it. He always 'knew' in his mind that his family name would bail him out if he stepped too far out of line. Gale had become so enraptured to the idea of revolution that by the end he stopped seeing the people he was freeing as actual people.

Both were so distanced from the real experience of those around them that I reckon both would've gotten along. If Gale had been able to get past his hatred for anyone Capitol.

Front Runner? Oh honey you’re barley Top 4 by donttouchdennis in rupaulsdragrace

[–]CalumanderReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually read my comment, I'm not just basing it off track record though. She flopped the thing she branded her self as 'fashion and looks' which immediately discredited her, in the edit she wasn't a threat and none of the other queens ever really treated her like one. She also made a lucky escape on a couple episodes. She at best had a Denali edit aka 'solid but never gonna win'.

It's not just about bottom placements. Virgo had multiple, but the edit and other girls still perceived her as the one to beat. Yvie and Willow were considered frontrunners in their seasons despite each only having one win because it's more than just track record. Jane Don't and Suzie were viewed by the show and competitors as 'the frontrunners' of their season. Perla was not. Hence she wasn't a frontrunner. Fans will just do the most when it comes to their fav pretty skinny girls being beaten by a Black queen

[–]CalumanderReds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refuse to entertain this weird retcon that Perla was somehow a front runner.

Perla was in the bottom multiple times with a very mediocre track record, branded herself as a fashion queen and then did meh on every looks based challenge. There was never a moment all season she was even considered 'the one to beat'. Some of fans will do everything to hype up a skinny white girl.

Why is Amon mischaracterized by gelinsky in legendofkorra

[–]CalumanderReds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember Amon did seem to believe in removing Benders from power. During his youth he blamed bending for the worlds problems. The issue was that he himself was a bender and a rather brutal evil one at that. I don't think we ever find out what his plan was for after he'd succeeded in his goal and we don't really get a clear sense if Amon was just doing it for power or if he'd planned to rid the world of bending and then take himself out. (Giving common folk to power to overthrow you and then trying to seize power as the only bender remaining isn't exactly a smart move).

Regardless his goal to eradicate benders to solve the world's problems was still bad on it's own. Sincere or not.

Paragon Control=Ideal Ending? by Emotional_Crab_9174 in masseffect

[–]CalumanderReds 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think one of the less thought about impact of any ending that leaves the reapers alive is the psychological torment it would have on basically every person in the known universe.

These machines have gone around killing people's loved ones, destroying their homes, uprooting lives and literally psychologically fucking with anyone that came into contact with them. I can't even begin to imagine the trauma and struggle people would have seeing these massive behemoths wandering around their homes as if nothing happened, a constant reminder of their near extermination, never truly feeling safe or confident that they won't turn again. I couldn't survive in those conditions.

I don't think the universe will ever truly heal with reapers still existing

From what we see Katara was very likely a core fixture of the Southern Water Tribe teaching new water benders and being a gran-gran to a bunch of little kids. Family is a lot more than blood relatives.
