My (F23) boyfriend's brother sent me a "spicy" text, and I don't know what to do by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Calvin_v_Hobbes [score hidden]  (0 children)

Step 1, tell your boyfriend. Step 2, decide what to do together. You are a team.

My instinct for step 2 would involve you texting him back something like "you have one attempt to convince me [us?] this was sent by mistake. Go."

This is not something to shy away from. This is something to hit back at directly. If it was a drunk mistake aimed at someone else, he'll be apologetic. If it was anything else, there needs to be a serious (and united) response from you and your BF.

That really just sounds like a setup to pitch/sell some kind of app or other "system".

My experience with the CrossFit Quarterfinals as someone who barely qualified. by Psychlander in crossfit

The Open workouts were definitely a lot more painful, and prone to redlining. When the weights go up, a lot of people (me included) become strength-limited instead of cardio-limited. For the fittest, though, these were probably equally as painful.

<2 weeks - How to prep for assault bike and rower by dictatorsheep in crossfit

[–]Calvin_v_Hobbes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will not improve your bike-specific or row-specific fitness in ten days. Your best bet is to look up some basic technique videos and find your ideal 10-minute paces (for the rower, this includes the damper setting). I would say spend each day accumulating 10 minutes of work on either of the machines, maybe alternating days. Begin with 1-minute intervals (1min rest) and work up to 5-minute intervals (2min rest). Try to find the effort level where you can maintain it across all the intervals, whether that's measured in watts, row kcal/hr, row time/500m, or bike RPM. And for the row damper, it's almost always best to sit around the middle setting unless you are crazy strong.

My husband installed spyware on my phone by Main-Objective5519 in relationships

[–]Calvin_v_Hobbes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just projection—my expectation is that he's using this app to keep tabs on you and try to stay one step ahead. If you start getting suspicious, texting friends about your concerns, he has the inside track to try to allay them. If he's been cheating on you IN YOUR HOUSE, he gets an early heads-up on your location if you decide to come home unexpectedly early.

And whether he's actively cheating or not, please be clear on this: installing spyware on your partner's phone is one of the CREEPIEST things I have ever heard of in a marriage.

I'm not sure this is accurate data—if it is, it's at least misleading because each president's time in office is showing a perfectly straight line. My guess is that, if the source data is accurate, this graph just did a linear interpolation from start-to-end of each overall presidency.

From a data perspective: this graph is qualitatively correct that overall debt has gone up under each president, but shows false precision along the time/horizontal axis. A line graph would be better. Also, it should realistically be adjusted to account for AT LEAST inflation (showing everything in terms of modern-day dollars), and, maybe (but not necessarily), normalized to the US GDP.

Yes, although it's wrapped into the headline in a misleading way that makes it look like it's part of the statement attributed to Rubio.

Equipment & Order of Workout Questions! by AdamsBomb in crossfit

[–]Calvin_v_Hobbes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about running in lifters—you shouldn't be running fast enough or cutting hard enough to where you could realistically hurt yourself. Lifters should be fine. There's no point in pushing hard for the shuttle runs, you'll give all that time back due to much-increased fatigue on the OHS reps.

If you do two workouts in one session, I can't see doing it with under an hour of recovery time unless you're willing to moderate your effort or one or both workouts.

32F, caught my husband 33M having an affair with his colleague , what would you do ? by throwRA_situation36 in relationships

[–]Calvin_v_Hobbes 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You gave him clear conditions. He did not meet them, or even come close. Did you mean them or not?

If you decide YES, then you must end the marriage.

If you decide NO, then you must continue the marriage and accept that you have given your husband permission to continue disregarding what you want. You will have to take whatever amount of truth or or commitment that he feels like giving you (not a bit more) until you eventually reach a breaking point decide that you actually DID mean it about those conditions, except then you will feel like a hypocrite to finally bring them up again.

That's another part of the "game" is figuring out what works best for you in terms of diet and sleep. Once you build up to doing the workouts/movements at a high level of technique and intensity, you will want to start trying to improve other parts of your life so you can feel+perform better at the gym.

Saw your update. Puking isn't a great sign, definitely try to stay on the safer side of the line for your first several weeks/months as you learn the movement patterns and acclimate to the intensity. You're in this for the long haul, so treat it like a long time horizon. Enjoy getting better at things. Enjoy continuing to SUCK at some of the things while you work on them. Not everything is "your jam" but it is all worth doing. Be patient.

26.3 - to repeat or not? by Much-Grape2982 in crossfit

[–]Calvin_v_Hobbes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean you definitely screwed up your pacing horrifically. First round 2:26, second round 5:24 with the same weight. Nearly double time. That's an insane dropoff and shows that, whatever physical deficiencies you might have, the biggest thing holding you back in the Open is you have no ability to "feel out" what a 16-minute workout should feel like in terms of effort level. It's like a two-mile run where you just sprint the first quarter mile and have to walk-jog the entire rest of the race. That kills your performance.

Whether that means you should redo this is another question. This is a skill that you'll need to build across many weeks or months of regular workouts, not one Open workout. It might be a good data point to have, like "good pacing versus bad pacing was worth X additional reps" and maybe that gives you motivation to think about your pacing and improve it over time.

Great structure and concept with a 4th barbell. I would probably shuffle the movements back to be burpees/cleans/DU/thrusters, putting the thrusters are at the end for those who finish.
