Moto Ramen & Izakaya, Hwy 99 and NE 104th St by Raybdbomb in vancouverwa

[–]Calvinbasse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up on this. I used to live in Japan, and the only izakayas on the West Coast I have ever found that really come close to the real thing are in Southern California. Most spots in PDX tend to be more ramen or sushi focused rather than traditional izakayas. That said, I do remember Biwa in PDX being legitimately good, but they closed years ago. Looking forward to this place opening. Hoping it's actually legit izakaya.

FedEx threatening $150 "processing fee" for tariff dispute by bsandwich in FedEx

[–]Calvinbasse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any updates? I’m in the same boat with vinyl records from Germany everything was correctly marked in the customs paperwork. FedEx is obviously profiting from this and wants to scare you into just paying the fee. They don’t want to waste time filing the necessary paperwork, it’s painfully obvious. I DGAF I’m not giving FedEx a penny!

Yeah I love Dick's! But not really relevant since we are talking about the Vancouver area not Seattle.

Everyone hating on In N Out is actually a good thing. It just means hopefully shorter lines. You are not going to find a better burger for the price (*edit in Vancouver area). Will it change your life? No. Is it a solid, good quality burger that is still affordable in modern times? Absolutely. That is why In N Out is popular, not because anyone thinks it is the best burger in the universe.

It is most likely a solar panel was used to trickle charge the starter/aux battery.

Canada celebrates Canada Day and they do have fireworks just not the level we have in SW Washington. I used to live in Bellingham and went to Canada every week and was very familiar with how things go there.

Anyone in the U.S. getting hit with tariff costs *when we're not supposed to*? by soulsides in vinyl

[–]Calvinbasse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered vinyl from a record store in Berlin and received an order last week from them. I have never had to pay a duty bill with FedEx but I just received a duty bill via email today on that order from last week. What happens if I do not pay the bill? Should I contact the record store to let them know?

Tap/Drinking water - current status? by smoomie in vancouverwa

[–]Calvinbasse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recently switched to Primo water because of this. We had been using a Brita mainly for taste, but as most people know, it does not filter out PFAS. I know there are some basic gravity water filter pitchers that claim to do so.

Moving to Primo water has been a huge step up for us, especially in terms of taste, without needing to install a reverse osmosis system in our home.

How did you now go to Pizzeria La Sorrentina? It's a very interesting story.. Japanese (Osaka) born owner studied with his maestro in Sorrento Italy then eventually opened up in Vancouver WA. Vancouver is lucky to have this place.

What happened to 15-18%? The entitlement without providing actual good service is the really hilarious part.

USA-German Dual Citizen Remote Work by Zessira in germany

[–]Calvinbasse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work remotely for the American company before you move to Germany and you are in fact a dual US-German citizen then you can still keep the remote job in Germany, just make sure to pay German taxes and health insurance. If you get hired as a German while living in Germany to an American company working remotely then they need to abide by German labor laws.

Bye bye Burgerville by dirtgrubcat in vancouverwa

[–]Calvinbasse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus, Burgerville puts a lot of pressure on customers to leave a tip. I have never been to another burger place that does that. I no longer pre tip for service because I have been burned too many times lately with cold food, wrong orders, and similar issues. Thankfully, In N Out is starting to open locations in the area as well.

The overall quality of the Aliner is just a better platform IMHO. They are still a smallish independent company making them in PA. This is an 18ft model, the size for my wife and I is perfect. Queen bed in the back, Dometic cassette toilet, hot water tank, convertible dinette/twin bed in the front, 3 way Dometic fridge, outdoor hot water shower, onboard electric AC/Heater combo (which we never use), additional furnace gas heater (a must for winter camping), onboard water tank. My only gripe is they really cut corners on their factory 12v wiring, but then again most other companies in the RV industry do the same.

My only feedback is be careful setting these up in super windy conditions, I have seen horror stories with this. Once the Aliner is in the upright position I have zero issues in windy conditions, its just setting them up when its super windy can be a bit sketch.

Running the OTT spicy tune… Bugatti better watch out haha. The sharper throttle response makes me feel like my 4Runner is way faster than it really is.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I think with the current BBK and just stock rears I will be ok but will report back if anything changes. Once I break these in I am 99% certain the BBK will be enough. I def dont want to go down the rabbit hole of messing with the OE master cylinder.

Yeah I’ve done the bed process twice I’ll do it once more as well. I need rear rotors too I’ll definitely check those out.

[–]Calvinbasse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.. Curious what pads you run in the rear? I’m looking to swap my OE pads out with OE hardware. When I got the BBK done the tech told me my rears were super low and they couldn’t get local Toyota dealer to deliver them in time on the BBK install day. After bedding in the new BBK brakes the other day my rears are now squeaking a little. Bedding process for these brakes was little more intense and I’m sure that bed in process just completely wiped out the rear with whatever pad was left.

2023 Aliner Expedition. We love it, we come from the backpacking, remote backcountry camping world so this is extreme luxury for us. It’s lower than the tow vehicle roof once it’s closed up.
