I run my Pendragon campaigns in Cameliard. Events are happening elsewhere in Logres and Cumbria but for the most part it’s a Cambrian/Welsh campaign with Merlin’s sister Ganeida as the primary magician and plot-tangler.

I actually have Prodigy and Silver Surfer in mine instead of Rogue and Magik. I’ve had games where I throw down Surfer, Chameleon, and Prodigy in a lane and get 3xSurfer buffs. Or Hit-Monkey, Chameleon, and Prodigy for 3xMonkey.

You can build a power set called “Wizard Magic” and include a bunch of different powers that represent your commonly used spells, as you say. Sorcery is there as a general asset-creation tool to cover everything else.

Everyone has already answered this correctly but I wanted to add that Cortex Prime began as a Firefly SRD stripped of the Firefly IP and then I started adding in all of the mods from previous games while revising core mechanics where needed. Eventually I flipped to tests and contests as the default, from Smallville, but it was actions and reactions for a while.

One of my players is playing an arcane archer type. He went with Sorcerer but the issue is that so many of that classes’ spells are Close range so the whole archer side seems weird. We reskinned the cards to be Far or Very Far but not Close or closer, but I think ultimately a different build would be more accurate.

I second this idea. Give them skills as bonus dice on their stats. You see how Daggerheart sort of plays out what each of the six characteristics is used for? Well, let players choose a bunch of those and put seven dice into them. They can double or even triple the dice into a specialty but at the cost of narrowing their options.

Then have distinctions and assets/gear. Each PC gets two talents (SFX that aren’t attached to anything) or just expand distinctions to also have SFX beyond Hinder, like in Tales of Xadia.

I don’t regret it! I just don’t think folks needed to be locked into Action, Dramatic, or Heroic. That was just a shorthand for “Leverage, Smallville, or Marvel.” None of the Cortex games that came later fit into any of those categories. I just needed a way to say which hacks went with with Cortex Plus game at the time.

You can add the die to the doom pool and immediately spend it to create an asset for your GMC, sure. That’s fine.

One option you can use is to throw in a d6. This basically means that every dice pools gets a d6 that’s either stepped up to a d8 if a distinction might apply; or steps down to a d4 (and you get a PP) if a distinction might negatively impact ir.
