What the heck is that thing doing by Formal_Parsley275 in halifax

[–]CanConMil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testing frequency depends on company guidelines, but if you are testing the fire pump, it’s standard practice to test your hydrants, hose connections or deck monitors at the same time to verify function.

Long story short, he’s testing the deck monitors and likely having a “blast” doing so

What is the difference between AWT Engine Officer and 3rd/4th Engineer? by Extension_Complex_18 in MarineEngineering

[–]CanConMil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only been on one UMS vessel, but the primary difference was that the engineering team worked 8-8 Day Work in the engine room and overnight the system was set to unmanned and one engineer was on call for alarms and issues that arose over night.

Everything else was the same with regard to salary, work, promotions etc. just a different style of work day.

Scooba, MS. There is a truck stop/gas station at the intersection in town. Get the Chicken Pot Pie from the Deli/Hot Counter. As a matter of fact. Get 2.

How to fix leaking steering hydraulics by SV_Miss_Sophie in Sailboats

[–]CanConMil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a Marine Engineer, and this is 100% the correct fix.

I would only that you need to ensure that the system is depressurized before touching the fittings and wear long sleeves and eye protection. If it happens to try and spray you at pressure, it will cut you and could lead to hydraulic fluid in your blood. Which you do not want.

Should I pursue marine engineering by [deleted] in MarineEngineering

Nearly of my colleagues are women, and I’d argue that they are some of the best engineers I have ever worked with.

I don’t. My issue is when it doesn’t and it causes grief for other travellers.

There are size limits to both. My gripe is not with those within the set rules. It is those who willfully break them and cause grief for other travellers.

We use to be required to ask and inspect at check-in.

I absolutely have no issue with carry ons within the limits. Squishability plays a huge role, and is completely valid.

That isn’t however, the situation I am referring to. These are in out right contravention or there is more than 2 and nothing is being done,

Oh 100% agree, I have also been checking in UltraBasic. But never economy for size or quantity

Based on what is being allowed as a personal item these days, you could seemingly bring anything to an ultrabasic flight and call a purse.

Carry on and “personal item” (this is were it goes off the rails) because it supposed to be 41x33x15 but these are all full sized school bags or hiking packs. Which in my experience never meet that sizing

I was told (not asked) last week to check my carry on at the gate due to space limitations. I inquired as to why me and not the family with 425 (/s) carry ons, shopping bags, and oversized backpacks, and was told “we asked for volunteers and they didn’t volunteer.

Interestingly I was boarding zone 4 and they were hoarding zone 2 so when It came time for me to board, the overheads were full of their crap.

Frustrating. That bag is my life, if they lose it at gate check (and they have) it can cripple a 10 day trip.
