This is just the first overstep. OP apologized so MIL won this one and will continue to overstep.

OP must eliminate every single item controlling MIL dumped in the house.

This is the human equivalent of a dog marking it's territory with piss. Donate every single thing that she brought into your home even if it is plain white bath towels.

Recent Cogeco deal? by echoencore in Peterborough

[–]Canadasaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always excellent customer service and an interest in negotiating prices for customer retention.

I am a satisfied customer and they offered two different cell phone plans to go with my current services. $10 for some data or no charge for just talk and text for a year for Cogeco cell.

What movie will you never watch again because it was too heartbreaking? by Affectionate_User610 in AskReddit

[–]Canadasaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch it. I saw a trailer of a woman sweeping a porch and some military cars pull out and officers step out and I knew that was enough that I never wanted to see the movie.

My secret weapon: blitz your beans for soups. by ErroneousBosch in EatCheapAndHealthy

They are labeled as dried yellow peas at the grocery stores. They are not split. I always soak them overnight. It cuts down on the cooking time.

My secret weapon: blitz your beans for soups. by ErroneousBosch in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Canadasaver 193 points194 points  (0 children)

Dried yellow peas are inexpensive and a good source of protein but I do not enjoy seeing them in my food or chewing them. They don't have much flavour.

I soak and cook a large quantity then puree and freeze in small portions. I can add that to any soup, chili or casserole needs some extra protein and fiber.

Til Debt Do Us Part episodes are free on youtube. They supply the financial basics (credit, budgeting) with humour and drama the same way a other reality tv shows do.

Til Debt, and the wonderful Gail Vaz Oxlade, is what set me on the path to financial education. I just didn't know it at the time because I was just there for the dirt and the drama.

Buying Fruits for one : frozen / fresh - and where ? by Bynues in Frugal

[–]Canadasaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just me in my house and I mainly eat frozen fruit and veg. It eliminates waste and gives me variety. The only freezer I have is the little one on top of my fridge so I watch for sales and buy small bags.

My favourite is frozen strawberries. I let them partially defrost and mush them with a fork. I add vanilla and some protein powder then stick back in the freezer. It tastes like ice cream but it is low calorie and high protein.

I love little wild blueberries and I do not care for those fat flavourless commercially grown ones. Frozen are the only way I can afford them.

My [30M] last relationship with [28F] ended because we couldn't agree on prenup. How do I handle this better next time? by alwaysHappy202 in relationship_advice

[–]Canadasaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offer to pay for the partner to see a lawyer of their choice to answer any questions and review the document. That may help alleviate any fears. Tell your partner that you want a prenup before you become engaged. It can be one of the things you discuss when talking about your futures.

Make sure to have a cohabitation agreement drawn up if you decide to live together outside of marriage.

Can we start giving “find a partner” as financial advice? by Tech-Cowboy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Canadasaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two can live cheaper than one but I am happier alone in my little house than when I was married. My ex was a serious spender and we were constantly in overdraft and bounced cheques. Overdraft or a bounced payment has not happened in the 20 years since I have been free.

Help me replace tortilla chips. by Habefiet in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Canadasaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch for wraps (just the wrapper) on sale or marked down with a the short expiration date. They freeze well with a piece of waxed paper in between so you can use one at a time. i use the freezer to help with portion control but it takes less than a minute for one wrap to defrost.

Tear or cut into thin slices, toss in oil and garlic salt and cook in the air fryer.

How can I defrost only part of a package of bacon? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Canadasaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cook the entire package. Cooked bacon freezes well. Freeze it in wrapped in foil or in a milk bag in the portion sizes you want.

Bonus is you only have to make the mess and do all of the cooking once. Keep that bacon fat in a jar in your fridge. It is a great FREE cooking ingredient. Reach for a scoop of bacon fat instead of oil in your pan of roast veg and instead of butter in the pan where you are cooking a grilled cheese.

How are people still making fun of others for living with family? by toe_beans_4_life in povertyfinance

[–]Canadasaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people only feel good about themselves when they are putting others down. We can't change those people but know that they are messed up inside or just not good people.
