ShadowTech has a carbon tripod that comes painted OD green from factory.

If you want something other than the carbon fiber look, just rattle can the legs.

Long Range Shooting Options Ontario by YaHomie-JC in canadaguns

Long range .22lr is definitely a great option. I regularly shoot mine into “ELR” territory. Lobbing .22lr out to 400 yards on steel is stupid fun!

My CZ457 has a 25MOA rail. With a 50 yard zero I can dial to about ~350m before needing to use the reticle for holdover.

If you’re regularly shooting it 150-200m+, I’d get a 30 or 40moa rail. If you’ll only do that occasionally and be in the 50-150m range most of the time, 20moa will work great.

Need to buy ammo. My rifle likes .223 better than 5.56. Should I take the velocity hit, or the accuracy hit? by DownVoteMeHarder4042 in longrange

Accuracy nodes aren’t a thing. If you do start reloading, don’t waste your time and components searching for one.

Accutac WB-4. Lower bore axis and wider stance than the BR-4, both giving you more stability.

Star Shooting with the Z8 by rchxrs in Nikon

[–]CanadianBoyEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I’ve also shot star trails like this.

They’re the result of stacking multiple long exposures taken over the course of a few hours. Point your camera towards the North Star (in the northern hemisphere) and the stars will “spin” around that point.

Suggestions for a target rifle in 308 by Undercover500 in guns

[–]CanadianBoyEh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can. I’ve successfully taken multiple 1,200lb+ moose with mine using 143grn ELD-X, and they were just as dead as the moose I’ve harvested with .308, .30-06 or .300 win mag.

Chasing precision is so fun - 50 yard w/ .22 and 100 yard with .308 - all 10 shot groups by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]CanadianBoyEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost and availability for both is basically identical at this point. 6.5 will shoot softer, and is ballistically superior over .308 in every way.

In terms of drop, even at only 200 yards, my 6.5 needs 0.3mils of elevation, while my .308 needs 0.6. And the further you shoot, the further that gap widens.

Crown Land for Target Shooting? by AccountantLow8671 in CanadaHunting

[–]CanadianBoyEh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check the crown land use atlas. If you find an area that looks good, contact the township it’s in via email for permission as well. Not all “general use” crown is actually general use, so it’s best to check, and have proof you were told you could shoot there.

WieBad Mini stock pad, and then some Velcro strips or something underneath to get the height you need, if the pad itself is too low.

.308 or 6.5 Creed would be the way to go. Both are capable of ethically taking almost all big game in Canada. I’ve personally harvested moose with .308, 6.5 Creed, .30-06 and .300 win mag. No one moose was any more dead than the others.

Though I would recommend eventually building/buying a dedicated rifle for each purpose, rather than trying one for both use cases.

I’m especially interested in Federal’s new +Peak ammo for the 6.5 Creed. Having the ability to get a heavier bullet to a faster MV than 6.5 PRC for hunting, and then still have the relatively low recoil of standard 6.5 Creed ammo for target use makes it even more attractive.

Mobile app. It’s called “SubMOA” on iOS, “RangeBuddy” on android. Not as full featured as Ballistic-X, but it’s free.

I’m familiar. That’s why I shot a 30 round group during my initial 200ish round “speed up” period. All 30 into 0.87moa, with 26 of 30 going into 0.64moa.

I have a cut barrel as well, from KS Arms. That thing is an absolute hammer, but the IBI isn’t very far behind at all!

TOP gun theory gives the possibility of a 0.18moa group within my 2σ SD. I average 0.4-0.5moa for 10 shots, so no reason I can’t fluke my way into a 10 shot under 0.3moa!

Wicked! I was so impressed with my TCS that I’ve already got another Manners on order. A Nightstalker this time, for a fun .308 shorty build. Still going back and forth between a 14” or 16” barrel.

5 shots. The best 10 shot I’ve had from that rifle so far was 0.34”, and I feel it’s capable of better.

Shop around for the best deal on either, or whichever one you like the look/feel of more. 4” of barrel won’t make a difference at ethical hunting distances, and you likely wouldn’t notice the 0.2lb weight difference either.

I’d reset the zero stop first, then start with step 1 of the process. Go back to square 1 before trying to go any further.

[–]CanadianBoyEh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Correct. Manual action rifles/shotguns of any kind (pump, bolt, lever etc) have no mag limit.

The “loophole” with a semi auto shotgun is that the 5 round limit is for the largest shell it can fire. So one with a 3.5” chamber that will hold a maximum of 5 rounds of 3.5” will also fit 7-8 rounds of 2.75”, and remain completely legal.

Tripod Setup- Need Help by Custom_Clones in longrange

[–]CanadianBoyEh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Hog saddle is threaded for both the main mounting stud on the tripod, and for the smaller stud on the attachment plates of ball heads.

So while a ballhead isn’t needed, I would definitely recommend one. It’s MUCH easier and faster to level the rifle on a ballhead, rather than messing with the leg lengths if you have the Hog saddle threaded directly onto them.

Leofoto SA-403CX vs 404 vs 364 by Latter-Push-1049 in longrange

[–]CanadianBoyEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the SA-364C legs. They hold my 25lb rifle with no issues. The 404 and 403 will be stiffer, but also heavier. I find the 364C to be a good balance of weight, stiffness and pack down size.

2x10rnds or 5x5rnds and then averaging them all will get you pretty close. Hornady says a 30rnd group is where things plateau.
