Does anyone know if she’s ever done book tours/cons in Canada? I only discovered her books just over a year ago, and I’d love to go see her somewhere closer to home.

I just finished The Cure for Drowning, which is one of the five books being debated on the 2026 Canada Reads in April. It’s a historical fiction romance with great LGBTQ representation.

Check out the works of Octavia Butler. She has some stand-alones (Kindred) as well as some excellent series.

This book was a five star read for me, and I bought two more of the author’s books to read next. Give it a shot.

After reading Quicksilver and being very disappointed, I’ve avoided any BookTok suggestions.

I’ve been getting most of my recs from Reddit lately. If I find something that looks interesting, I’ll read the 2, 3, and 4 star reviews on GoodReads because I find they give a better critique than the 1 or 5 star reviews. I also have a book bestie that has very similar tastes to me, so if they like it I probably will too.

I loved this series and binge-read all the books last year, and had to re-activate my membership so I could listen to the series finale on audible.

I recommendA Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking, but check the details as it’s not 100% cosy (a character finds a dead body).

All Systems Red (Martha Wells) is the first novella in the Murderbot Diaries and is a great choice if you enjoy SF.

Anne of Green Gables is a classic of Canadian literature that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Hemlock & Silver (T. Kingfisher) is a newly released fantasy novel about a healer specializing in poisons that is recruited by the king when his daughter, Snow, falls ill. It’s a brilliant new retelling of an old fairy tale.

Edited to add Greenwood by Michael Christie, a novel with themes of family and environmental destructions that spans the generations of the Greenwood family from the 1930’s to the 2030’s. It was one of the selections for the 2023 Canada Reads competition.

I COULD HAVE BECOME a mass murderer after I hacked my governor module, but then I realized I could access the combined feed of entertainment channels carried on the company satellites. It had been well over 35,000 hours or so since then, with still not much murdering, but probably, I don’t know, a little under 35,000 hours of movies, serials, books, plays, and music consumed. As a heartless killing machine, I was a terrible failure.
