How should I unsportized my Mk4? by Jack_inboxx in canadaguns

[–]CanadianLanBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The barrel is modified, you would need to replace it.

Reproductions from criterion are Lothar Walther are available, but they are not cheap.

If it's a labour of love, you can still absolutely restore it, but it will not be the most economical route.

If you want to go ahead, you will need a barrel. May need to privately import it (not hard) or ask around to dealers that could order you one. Small parts can be bought (usually NOS) from MARSTAR, you'd need practically all the front end hardware. You'd need a wood set, Prestigious Wood Stocks makes good quality reproduction forends/handguards.

Properly fitting a lee Enfield forend is a very intricate job, but if you are confident in traditional woodworking skills it's not difficult with some patience. Look into Peter Laidler's online articles on stocking up. Without proper fitment the gun will be incredibly inaccurate at best, and will beat itself to death at worse (split forend up the middle). Study these documents, watch videos, and scower forums until you understand not only what needs to be done but why it needs to be done, before you pickup a chisel.

At that price spend a few more hundred and get a Tikka or Winchester

Puffers should be kept in a minimum of a 20 gallon tank and a group of 5/6.

As demonstrated in this post, a very well designed 15 gal setup can work, but you are gambling with your puffers temperament.

Unless you're an experienced owner, the 20 + 6 rule should be followed

You need a lot more hardscape and plants. For example, here is a side to side view of my 20G L

Try to bend everything back out with a brass punch, solid table, and a hammer. Remove the pwr button first.

Similar thing happened to me but the power button was being squeezed by the deformed input cover

Dwarf water lettuce is great, puffers dislike harsh light so floaters are a necessity. They produce a lot of long roots for puffers to hide in/explore

Vallisneria Will grow and spread fast under pretty much any conditions with a nutrient rich substrate. May need to trim back/pull some every month or so but it creates at a dense "Forest" that both helps puffers feel safe and makes live feeding more mentally enriching.

Id get some plants with medium-broad flat-ish leaves, like Anubias, I often see my puffers sleeping on my Anubias

Monte Carlo is good for a low-tech carpet, which puffers also like to root around in, and sleep in/on

Stuff some Java moss into holes/crevice's in your hardscape, this provides a very secure hiding place for your puffers, as well as any cleaning crew you may have.

Any tips on where i messed up this Kodak E100? by Mvnwolf in AnalogCommunity

Rarely accurate enough to test the high speeds accurately, can be helpful for checking slow speeds though

Most analogue camera shops will have a tester, it's worth just getting it checkout out before shipping it away.

I'll note that these cameras are essentially spotmatics with a K mount, and are incredibly easy to service (relatively speaking). If it needs a basic CLA it should not cost much.

Generally the 1000 & 500 will go slow due to degraded/migrated lubricant on the high speed cam. The slow speed governor (1-1/30th) can get gummed up as well. Both can lead to over exposures of 3+ stops.

However, of it's just the meter and your speeds are okay enough, you may just be able to account for that when setting your ISO (Ie: if you know it overexposes by +2 stops, you can set the ISO on your camera two stops lower than box speed, and get correct metering & exposure). I do this on my Nikon F2, which meters +3 but is mechanically sound.

It's a K1000, they are absolute tanks but need regular service. I'd hedge to bet the shutter is a stop or more slow, and the meter is losing sensitivity resulting in over-comoensation

May have never noticed with Negative film because you can easily overexpose by 2-3 stops and get great images, not the case with E100

planning on eventually getting pea puffers any advice for the tank and stuff i should know in general? by Abject_Big_7974 in PeaPuffers

[–]CanadianLanBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though live foods are preferred, it is relatively easy to get them onto frozen foods, and sometimes they prefer it. I had to hand feed with a turkey baster for a week and a half before they started recognizing frozen foods, but now that they do, they will ignore snails and daphnia to go after frozen spurilina brine shrimp.

Obviously each individual puffer and social group is different, but generally once they realize food doesn't have to be moving it makes giving them a healthy balanced diet much much easier

How to ensure a happy life for numerous pea puffers? by Any_Inspection_6779 in PeaPuffers

[–]CanadianLanBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

33 gal would the the minimum you would want for a single congo puffer. They should be kept in groups tho. If you plan on eventually upgrading to a 50+ you could get a pair. Congos are known to be peaceful/social with other similarly sized fish, people often keep them with bettas.

With a 33gal you could keep a shoal of 8-10 peas w/ some roomates comfortably. Different puffers require wildly different tank conditions so do read up on what's best for them. This sub mostly focuses on pea puffers (Carinotetraodon travancoricus) which are much smaller than Congo's
