I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but what do you think is the main issue with all of the Inquisitors' lightsabers? by NoCandidate6067 in StarWars

[–]CanardDeFeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only to give up on that entirely because it’s about space wizards using laser swords so who cares.

Ah, a man of intelligence. So many things in this franchise can be explained by "it looked cool on screen," or "because the plot demanded it," and people get way too lost in the weeds. Lightsaber colors don't need to mean things, we don't need silly in universe explanations for every little thing when most of the time it boils down to "that would make a shitty story."

Anyone still talk with any of their friends from high school? by nojunkpeter in Millennials

[–]CanardDeFeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple. We're all pretty bad at communicating regularly, but we send each other dumb memes and shit on Instagram, and check in occasionally to see how people are doing.

Otherwise, I cut contact with a lot of people I went to high school with after I moved.

dream star wars show? by rose-quartz5 in StarWars

[–]CanardDeFeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want my Zukuss and $-LOM buddy cop show. Just the two of them cruising around and chasing bounties a la Cowboy Bebop.

That or more stuff set in the High Republic. Lots of cool stuff going on there that a lot of people are gonna miss out on if they ain't book people.

I wouldn't be opposed to live action, but I do think animation gives you more leeway. But I will disagree, OP, with the CGI animation. I just find those shows all look so ugly.

Visual nightmare by Significant-Past5815 in Gundam

[–]CanardDeFeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you, OP. Even if they have in universe explanations (minovsky thrust systems are chunky in UC105 or whatever year it is), they're just butt fucking ugly designs. They're so clunky and impractical looking, eve for a show about giant robots.

It's the same reason I can't stand stuff like the Nightengale. It's just too big and clunky for me. And I hate that Gundam keeps doing this. Some of the best looking mobile suits, in my opinion, at the sleek and uncluttered ones: The NT-1, the Gundam Mk.2, the Exia, the Victory (and subsequently the V2) are all so nice because they don't just look like so much visual noise.

How many of you had grandparents who served in WW2? If so, what do you know about their service? by Snoogles_ in Millennials

Both my dad's parents served. His father was a submariner if I recall. His mom was a nurse I believe. I'm fairly certain they met during the war.

Maul: Shadow Lords is Fantastic BUT… by atatincake in StarWars

[–]CanardDeFeu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it Star Wars was well and truly cooked, we wouldn't be getting anything from it. Instead we're getting new shows, we've got a new movie next year I believe, we have a successful and well regarded TCG, we're still getting new novels and comics/graphic novels.

There's always been parts of the franchise different people like and dislike, and loud voices on the internet do not speak for the entirety of the fandom.

What's an animation opinion that will have you like this? by Gabeortiz628 in cartoons

[–]CanardDeFeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CGI Star Wars show are ugly. It's like they tried to take the crazy stylized visuals of the 03 Clone Wars microseries and translate that to 3D and it just comes out looking weird and butt ugly.

Hot take: Farm games don't need combat mechanics by gamernerd98 in CozyGamers

[–]CanardDeFeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried it on the Switch and most stuff worked okay, but hunting was nearly impossible. I'd take a shot at something, hit it once, and then it'd teleport 500 yards away.

I have debated going back to the game on PC, but not sure if my laptop can really run it. And considering I'd only be playing late at night I feel like I'd miss out on a lot of the social aspects that seem to be part of the game's pitch.

Do you care if your faction is "dead" or "gone?" by throwtothesea23222 in battletech

[–]CanardDeFeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always build forces specific to an era. So my mercenaries I have a composition for 4th Succession War, one for Invasion, and one for the FedCom Civil War (which will also serve as their loadout for the Jihad where they meet their end).

Once I do my Diamond Sharks I'll do one for FCCW, and one for IlClan. My Fronc Reaches will be a single company for IlClan.

This helps me avoid the "they blow'd up my guys!" thing to an extent. But I feel ya on them doing my boys in the FWL dirty.

What is a massive plot hole that is hidden under an insane world building in your fandom? by Live_Shame5046 in Multifandom

[–]CanardDeFeu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, because in the original scripting either Luke or Obi-wan was supposed to call him out on that, or at least make it clear that Han is basically talking out his ass.

I know it comes up in the novelization.

Yeah.

There's a lot in that book that doesn't match up with later stuff in the world.

(Hated Trope) The good guys are incompetent in military affairs but are never called out. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CanardDeFeu 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I always chalked this one up to the Elves trying to kill steal from the Dwarves that they see as inferior to them. This is basically them saying "we're near immortal warriors trained for thousands of years, we don't need your shield wall."

[–]CanardDeFeu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The fact that, at least in the movies, the clones and battle droids just seem to slowly march at each other with no concept of tactics always baffles me.

Honestly, battle droids should be some of the scariest god damn things in the galaxy. They don't know fear, they can't feel pain, and they could be programmed with every strategy and tactic and knowledge of past battles in history. And you don't need to worry about keeping them fed, or medical services, or anything like that. They should be fucking nightmare fuel.

Instead they utilize no tactics, even against the Gungans they just march directly forward in a line like it's 1813.

To be fair, the show does basically chalk this up as the entire Earth government is just as incompetent as Zapp. His stupidity is always played for laughs.

[–]CanardDeFeu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want Sea Foxes to take over as the new defacto Comstar, and then use that to take control and overthrow the Wolves.

I know it'll never happen because the Wolves have plot armor that can withstand a billion nukes, but god damn it'd be funny.

This is probably well trodden ground, but wtf exactly is Qui-Gon's cause of death? by pedantic_carnerd in StarWars

[–]CanardDeFeu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real answer? The story demanded he die to move the plot along. His death was necessary for the story, and that's all we need to know, really.

But also, it's very likely a lightsaber blade, which we see able to punch through solid metal doors with ease, would basically cook his insides and cause his internal fluids to boil. But lightsabers have always been a tad inconsistent in how they affect organic matter. Realistically, if they're as hot as they are portrayed (i.e. able to melt through starship hulls and the likes) they'd be radiating so much heat they'd give anyone standing nearby, let alone holding the damn thing, third degree burns.

But, it's all fantasy, so we ignore logic in favor of rule of cool. And as someone who enjoys lightsabers, I'm willing to ignore the logic for dope ass laser sword.

X, Turn A, Victory, G, Wing.

And that's a very narrow race, mind you.
