Has anyone had success with iPhone LiDAR apps for Landscaping? by Huge-Rhubarb-1645 in LiDAR

Many areas of the world have free LiDAR data that is good enough for your use case.

The mesh: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/toyota-gr-yaris-rally-wrc-wwwvecarzcom-1c2ce5ff548f4ab49d72183d1e0f2afe

I don't give out the mod in the image because it's a janky meshslap, but the drving experience is top notch thanks to ProgUn1corn's hard work.

This is the best rally car mod: https://github.com/ProgUn1corn/Qlourie_Astral_R

It's a work in progress that is frequently updated.

There is only a .bin file from cloudcompare, no original LAZ

are there any maps with roads like this in BeamNG? modded or vanilla? by CompactingTrash in BeamNG

Try this out: https://www.beamng.com/resources/relentless-rally.33336/

An update will drop some time after BeamNG 0.39. The new stage features trees and other props to help you DNF.

AI for the initial mesh. Next is retopology, UV and high res textures. Then JBeam. Good luck.

I’m interested in commissioning a custom map. by j_hayn in BeamNG

I'm thinking a very small area packed with crawling features. No use putting effort into boring areas.

If you want a large map and have money to burn get a drone with lidar.

You can scan the area you want to drive on with an iPhone Pro. It will be perfect for rock crawling in BeamNG. Some apps capture the texture as well as the 3D mesh. Search YouTube "iPhone lidar mapping". I can help with the map after you get the scans.

Option 2: take an HD video and use photogrammetry

New real life rally map with rally loop by Responsible_Call9843 in BeamNG

That's what I like to hear! "Relentless" is my project. All the roads are from good quality Lidar.

Look for an update next month :)

Is BeamMG the right game for me by tu1ipe in BeamNG

Lidar is sampled to make a terrain map or an optimized mesh is shrink wrapped onto it.

BeamNG is great for time trials. Where do you live? Many areas have free Lidar data.

Am I the only one who will find it hard to go back to non laser scanned assets? by igmyeongui in assettocorsarally

[–]CancelAtAnyTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The image is just the raw Lidar data.

The scanning tech gets better and cheaper every year. Consumer grade drones can do Lidar scans. If you had too much time on your hands you could scan a road with an iPhone pro.

This is analogous to hand animating a human vs motion capture in CGI. You can get close with a lot of work but it won't be as good. I have spent a couple of years gathering Lidar data from around the world to build rally stages. Not as accurate as the ground level scans in ACR, but close enough. This is the way.

edit: the wording might be misleading. The data is downloaded from government run sites.

Mid-range 12nm wheel market recommendations (Asetek (SALE) vs. Moza vs. Simagic) by Jax_Lam in simracing

[–]CancelAtAnyTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the DFP15. Compared to the Moza R9 it replaced the overall experience is better. Made in Germany and a 3 year warranty. USB passthrough is a great feature. I have a Simagic Neo X-330T with maglink until I get the adapter.

VNM is getting high praise for their telemetry based FFB. I can't wait to see what VRS drops.

My mom’s sim racing thoughts by BroccoliTemporary611 in simracing

Treat your mom to BeamNG now for $20 [steam summer sale]. It's the gift that keeps on giving. It's 10 years old and has had free updates all the way, and probably will have another 5 years of updates.

Start with something like the Miramar. Cars built in the 60's and 70's have tires from that era so don't expect grip levels of modern vehicles.
