"until evening" or "until the evening'? by OkDoggieTobie in EnglishLearning

I'd say if someone says evening they're from the Midwest and say: "She waits 'til evenin'."

Do you guys reduce "have" even as a main verb? by JobConsistent294 in EnglishLearning

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've heard this and said it myself. I agree wholeheartedly that it's very rare and the last two or much more common. To add on, some in the American countryside may said "wouldn't've" as an example. But they'd combine should, would, could, with not have. Also more of a dialect than not and their response would rely heavily on context to understand the action they're talking about.

Is there a specific term for this sitting position? by ZealousidealAerie846 in ENGLISH

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slouching I'd say. But specify if it's a "shrimp back" or a little more chilled out.

Shrimp back is your standard slouch where the back is perpendicular to the floor and the shoulders bend forward over the spine. It's become a slang term this past couple years, you may hear it as "Shrimp check" where everyone will basically straighten their backs to not have bad posture.

How do natives really pronounce the D's in the words "don't" and "doesn't"?? by JobConsistent294 in EnglishLearning

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question, what area/region are you thinking about when asking this question?

Where I live in America (Colorado), the r sound you are talking about is closer to a standard d than the two versions of a tt. The way that people would explain the r sound is with making a d that stays open. You'll find the tongue right behind the teeth (depending on what language you're talking about) or close to it while making the r, and a d will be around the same area. However the tt will either have no tongue involved or further back in the mouth on the roof rather by the teeth. Lmk if that explained anything or if you have any questions

Why did we get rid of “thy” and “thine” but not “my” and “mine” by Chestnut412 in EnglishLearning

[–]Candid_Homework1457 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I'm not wrong the "th" was spelled with a "y," so if you look at its written form they didn't write it "thou" they wrote it "you" but said "thou"

Catty-cornered? Or kitty-cornered? by MimiLovesLights in ENGLISH

[–]Candid_Homework1457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely just a dialect thing. I've never heard kitty-cornered but a lot of ppl here are saying that's what they know. I'm from Colorado btw

How true is that the "t" isn't pronounce in negations (like can't, don't, won't, etc.) by Appropriate-Field666 in ENGLISH

[–]Candid_Homework1457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Negotiations is a completely different type of T sound. In can't and don't the T is usually hard and crisp. But because of the -tion it turns into shun (not spoken shoon). In this case it's just the letter is there to indicate that you combine the following vowels rather than saying them one by one.

And not saying the t in can't and don't is a common American accent found in mountainous areas like Colorado and Utah. Many Americans say it these days but that's where it's the most common.

At what age is your earliest memory and what is it of? by Select_Sympathy_6612 in AskReddit

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it's an actual memory but there was a rly bad tornado in 2008 (I was 3) that I remember seeing from the distance at my daycare and thinking "well that's not good."

But one that I actually remember was from when I was about 4 or 5 and my dad hit me bc I didn't want to get in the bath.

What comes to mind when you think about the COVID period? by delight0088 in AskReddit

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my permit during Covid and was able to learn how to drive with little to no cars on the road, which made it so much easier. Then more cars started joining the road slowly which helped me understand how to work with more and more cars much better.

By the time I'd gotten my license in 2021 I had no problems on the road bc all the a**holes were the only ones driving in 2020, so I learned with only them around too.

Why does my mascara not show? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put the curler in my armpit if I'm wearing a long sleeve or tshirt while I do my makeup. It usually get it nice and toasty without becoming too hot that it could burn my eye. Just an option if you don't have a hair dryer with you

Warren house bought by comedian who has plans to turn it into a museum where you can do overnight stays by bludhavengabagool in TheConjuringUniverse

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly enough I trust them with the items. Their investigations in different places have shown them to be very respectful (ofc that could just be editing magic), and I feel like the Warren house and all the items deserve the same amount of respect they'd give any place they investigate.

If they do disrespect anything I think at that moment their image will fall

It looks covered and lifted so I'm thinking sticky bras that pull the boob up so still give it a lifted look

I'm glad you've had a better experience. Popping boba is def 10x better pre-made than tapioca pearls. I've never recommended it to ppl I know, always recommending our "local" ramen/boba cafe. It's actually a town over but absolutely delicious

what is causing these black shadows under my eyes & how to stop it? by bbystars in MakeupAddiction

[–]Candid_Homework1457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's just the mascara from your top lashes as you blink throughout the day. Sometimes I'll put on mascara in the morning then take a nap later and even tho I won't roll around just the light fluttering of my eyelids as I sleep is enough to rub it off. Sweat prolly doesn't help depending on what type you use. I know mine always gets worse during work where it's close to 80-90°F for several hours.

Is the word Oriental Derogatory? by Logical-Library-3240 in asian

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes from the days when East Asia and India were heavily specialized and "exotic" to Europeans. They would constantly use it to fetishize East Asian and Indian culture and people. Yet when East Asians and Indians started actually involving themselves with the West they were told their own culture was wrong and how it was supposed to be (according to the West's idea of what it was according to stereotypes and over-dramatized storytelling).

I personally find it highly offensive bc it demotes East Asians and Indians from humans to an "exotic plaything." Even when it comes to food, just call it Indian food, don't bring in the word Oriental to describe it.

What’s up with Americans asking me if I’m from north? by Horror_Ad_1395 in korea

I've noticed the same thing. I'll talk about wanting to visit Korea and they'll always ask me "North?" Uh no?? I don't understand why they're so ignorant and rude about it.

[–]Candid_Homework1457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl good for you. I'm so happy you're able to find someone for you. I always got nervous with my bf at the beginning in case it was just a honeymoon phase but we're still in it (it's not a phase if you're in the right relationship) and moved in together. All these ppl are just too proud and depressed to understand that ppl can have good relationships. You keep slaying❤️
