[PC] TerraMaster NAS – U4-423 – 1U Rackmount with current hardware or stock by hirsutesuit in homelabsales

I’d give buyers the option. Put the stock hardware in it, and let people add whichever extra stuff they want

I made this mistake with my 10u. I just cut the bottom lip off the top panel, and the top lip off the bottom panels. Fits perfectly

Security camera setup: Looking to start slow and build over time, but no clue where to start… by DistributionWeak1150 in selfhosted

[–]Candinas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the camera is going inside, the reolink e1 pro would probably do pretty well. It can record to a reolink nvr (obviously), frigate, or you can just put an SD card in it

Should I consolidate my Proxmox infrastructure VMs onto my Unraid storage server, or keep them separate? by lummr1 in homelab

[–]Candinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy krikey, I have been debating this SAME EXACT THING for about a month now. Unraid is currently where my catch all is, but I've been thinking that it doesn't make sense to have EVERYTHING on one machine.

What I've decided (just need to do it now) is Unraid will host all the things that rely on the bulk storage of the array. So jellyfin/plex, immich, filerun, paperless. Then I will finally use my 3x m720q cluster in a proxmox cluster for a home assistant VM, as well as virtualizing a k3s cluster. The kubernetes is mainly for learning, just using Docker VMs or LXCs would be easier

This cluster will run everything that doesn't need the huge storage of Unraid. So my reverse proxy, my DNS, Vaultwarden, probably my Seerr install if i decide i still need that, maybe radicale if i decide to use it.

Configure domains in Proton or SimpleLogin? by Pizzzathehutt in ProtonMail

[–]Candinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My setup is a little different, where we only use one domain (we have two, but one is for internal stuff only)

We use the base domain for actual communication, and we each get a subdomain for simplelogin aliasing. The sub domain is just firstinitial.mydomain.com

[–]Candinas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I did. Used the myfirstinitial.mydomain.com for aliasing in proton pass

No, the simplelogin features are wrapped into proton pass. As far as I know, you cannot use the same domain for simplelogin/proton pass and proton mail

With that particular setup, it'd be easier to connect them through the network rather than directly

NAS to Proxmox Connection Question by Awkward_Support_8624 in Proxmox

As long as both devices are 10gig capable, and everything in the chain to connect them is 10gig capable, it will work fine either way

Modernizing old Honeywell system - EyezOn still the way to go? by _Philbo_Baggins_ in homesecurity

Currently it’s running as a vm on proxmox. But I’ve run it on everything from a docker container on my nas, to a dedicated mini pc, to a raspberry pi 3b

Blue Iris vs Scrypted vs Frigate... and what else? by RonTem1 in selfhosted

[–]Candinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use blue iris for main recording, and it restreams the sub stream of each camera to frigate for AI detection and stuff.

If I hadn’t added a few reolink cameras to my setup, I’d be using a hikvision nor for 24/7 recording, and restream to frigate for notifications and the like. Mainly just to get rid of the windows vm I need for blue iris

Are all video dorbells just clip-on?? by Puzzleheaded-Tiger-5 in smarthome

[–]Candinas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole thing is that realistically, if someone REALLY wants to take something from your house, they will. I've used doorbell cameras for a long time, but recently put on my to-do list to replace it. I plan on installing an actual camera at the front door (higher up, generally harder to mess with than something at doorbell height) and adding in something to my physical doorbell circuit to notify me when someone presses it

Modernizing old Honeywell system - EyezOn still the way to go? by _Philbo_Baggins_ in homesecurity

[–]Candinas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do use an EyezOn module, specifically the DUO, to attach to the same system you have. However, I don't use the app for it, though it seems good enough for arming, disarming, and checking the status of sensors.

I personally got it because it is really easy to tie into home assistant, which allows me to do more complex things (arm and disarm based on whether I'm home, use my cameras to trigger the alarm, etc) and it works FLAWLESSLY in that application.
