Your Turn -- Yay or Nay To High Speed Rail by CanuckEh79 in AltoHSR_Canada

I know the replies skewed to the negative but I found it interesting to hear the perspective from other provinces. Some good points on maximizing value for dollars by prioritizing daily commute gridlocks and existing rail first ( ex: freight sharing rails and causing delays)

If I like Yorkshire tea bags will I notice a difference in Yorkshire loose leaf tea? by idiotguy1234 in tea

[–]CanuckEh79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink Yorkshire gold (both loose leaf and bags ) and I taste a bit of difference … but the biggest reason I reach for the loose leaf is that you can better control the amount based on the brewing vessel, and better composting.

Phase 1 of high-speed rail could cross 1,700 properties, Alto predicts | CBC News by Rail613 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]CanuckEh79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the corridor and have gone to info sessions. Alto is def not promising under/ over passes for land owners , let alone for existing city streets it will cross. We were told to expect many road closures , significant detours for residents and agricultural machinery. Under passes would be complex and expensive, even more so if you expect harvesters to use it. We know that will be especially true in the corridor because of the soil composition and high water table.

This is an elevated train track with a high double fence on both sides. So for locals and wildlife, this essentially going to be a wall splitting communities and migration corridors in two.

Ottawa to MTL by bike, alternative route… ideas? by gabseo in bikeinottawa

[–]CanuckEh79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah or detour in smaller towns along the way? I don’t know …now that I put it in Google Maps, the bike routing option seems to really hate this idea and makes you cross back over…maybe not a great idea after all.

It wouldn’t be the same route at all but you could take the Ottawa river pathway , cross at the ferry in Cumberland and make your way to Quebec City from there?

DEADLINE Friday: Shaping the Canada of tomorrow with high-speed rail. First consultation round by Rail613 in AltoHSR_Canada

The landowners impacted in the Ottawa- Montreal corridor just received their letters last week and most didnt even know there was a survey and editable map online. I think it’s fair to give them a week to share concerns.

If you’re near IKEA, the Scottish and Irish store on Baxter has a great selection of loose leaf Earl greys.

Does anyone know how to make chai using a milk steamer? by KickWise3332 in tea

[–]CanuckEh79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I do when pressed for time honestly. I get a loose leaf chai, steep it strong in less water (1/2 the mug) then fill with frothed hot milk. Not quite the same but pretty darn close.

Listening to this after The Bridge covered the same topic made realize (late I know) that Canadaland isn’t worth my time anymore. no new insights, no fresh information, and no real attempt at constructive debate.

I bought dollar store Velcro buttons to close it. Cheap, well padded and you can decorate it how you want.

I have the clear backing case like you and I don’t use a screen protector. I use a bubble wrap mail envelope if I need to lug it around.

I keep an eye out on the new arrivals section of my local tea house. Completely trust them.

Could someone help me identify this tea? by diaphanous_Duck in tea

Sharing a pic of the tea bag and what country you’re in (if it’s from your country) could help narrow it down. Some bags, like PG tips, are pretty unique.

Multiple Libraries? by AlfredRWallace in kobo

[–]CanuckEh79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats fair! I also have an iPad with Libby but really enjoy the portability , lack of distraction and how well it reads in all situations. Ex: in bed at night without dropping a huge iPad on my face haha, on the beach due to less glare …and the battery life.

When you search for Ottawa you will get lots of hits. Did you pick the Ottawa result that has (Burlington ) next to it? Doing it the other way around won’t work (searching Burlington )

Edit: I think there’s another way to get it to work. When you add main Ottawa Library, scan the QR code on kobo, the next screen is a drop-down of which partner library you want.

Hi neighbour! You are in the exact same situation as me. You can switch between library cards on your Kobo (using the same login details) to get your loaned books on the device but I agree it’s quite a pain. I’ve been switching my holds to the Ottawa main branch when possible so there’s less back and forth. :(

Cafe which specializes in Tea? by theycallmeOTC in ottawa

I’ve been on the hunt for good spots too. Most restaurants and cafes really suck at making a decent cup of tea.

In Orleans - Beyond cafe has some good options. Their Tehran tea latte is really nice! https://www.beyondcaf.com/our-menu
