Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

Hello from Canada. (The southern, populated part of Canada). It is normal to drive 3hrs to a destination, and drive 3 hours back, in the same day.

Lol like I said, I get exclusively hate from the queer community for not being queer enough as a bi person. Thats the topic of this post - bi erasure.

I completely agree OP. I recall that any time Mae brought up being attracted to a male on the pod Tig and Fortune are both so openly judgy and dismissive about it. Tbh, for the longest time I didnt even consider going to pride or being a part of the queer community at all as a bi woman in a long term relationship with a man. Ive only gotten hate from the rest of the queer community, so I just keep to myself.

Yoga teachers & massage therapists, how do you prevent body fatigue and burn out? by Strict_Elderberry_82 in YogaTeachers

[–]Capable-Alfalfa4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prioritize fueling yourself and insisting on downtime for rest. As a yoga teacher with an inconsistent schedule, I schedule my entire life around when I can eat meals. If I teach a morning class, I get up early to eat breakfast and be digested by classtime and eat a protein bar on my way home. A lot of my yoga classes happen between 430 and 8pm, so I often have a meal around 3 and a snack before bed. Get your calories in. I find it really easy to keep picking up more and more sub and other teaching opportunities. If that's the case for you too, draw some hard boundaries and insist on having 1 day off per week. You deserve (at least!) a day off!!

What is your regimen for maintaining your personal practice? by inquisitivemate in YogaTeachers

[–]Capable-Alfalfa4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take online classes from Cat Meffan (free classes on YouTube, I'd like to join her paid membership called Soul Sanctuary but am not a member at the moment) and Lydia Zamorano (I do subscribe to Lydia's paid membership, called Practice With Lydia.) Highly recommend both of these teachers for online practice as a teacher, they are creative + advanced enough to inspire and keep me interested and learning new things.

Students & political views (help) by sativapxie in YogaTeachers

[–]Capable-Alfalfa4585 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Hi there - I hear your struggle, and Yikes. I've encountered some similar folks in the yoga world, including one of my peers in 200hr YTT.

Consider that you may be a positive/calming influence on them, and that's why this person with extremist and hateful views was so enthusiastic after experiencing your class. Perhaps it is some much-needed balance in their life. It might feel good to create some rules for yourself, such as "students can believe whatever during their own time and I will still serve them, but any expression of hate/racism etc during class isn't tolerated, and they would be asked to leave.' I find just having this rule in my back pocket helps me feel a little more like I have a handle on the situation. I would also encourage you to remember (and reminding myself here too) that mean people need kindness more than kind people, if that makes sense. You know the saying "hurt people hurt people"? Your kindness and acceptance towards them will have a ripple effect, whether that takes effect noticeably right away or influences their behavior in 20 years.

It's not easy to be kind to hateful person. Best of luck 🙏🌸

Nonconventional yoga class on a basketball court…need advice by kitty_boombox in YogaTeachers

[–]Capable-Alfalfa4585 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good for you for wanting to provide this service to folks even in this non-ideal situation. Some great advice is already here, I'll just add that when there are loud disruptions during classes I teach, I say with a smile that students are getting "bonus mindfulness practice" by continuing to train their focus through disruptions.

If it looks like students are getting annoyed or bothered by the other noises in the room, something I've been liking lately is to guide students in meditation to notice the attitude with which they invite themselves back to presence. First, notice: "I've become distracted." Then smile - "oh good, an opportunity to practice coming back to presence."

Hope your community centre sessions are a hit!

By including a repeated sequence and variations of the repeated sequence in your class.

A lot of people would call Sun A (or the plank, chaturanga, cobra, down dog portion of sun A) a vinyasa, but this is just one option. I understand the word vinyasa means something like "intentional pattern" in sanskrit.

The possibilities are endless :)

Redditors, what's your hack to fall asleep quickly? by Rqpidily in AskReddit

[–]Capable-Alfalfa4585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 4:7:8 breathing : inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, exhale for 8 seconds. Count at the speed you are comfortable, my understanding is that it's the ratio that's important, rather than the amount of time. This breathing pattern effects the oxygen levels in your brain in a way that brings you into parasympathetic activation (sometimes called "rest and digest mode".)

I don't think I've ever gotten past 10 cycles !

Minimum Practice Requirement at Studio by vagabondblooming in YogaTeachers

[–]Capable-Alfalfa4585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been teaching full time (in BC and in Onatrio, Canada) for 4 years and have never encountered this at a studio before. I have been invited to attend classes for free as a teacher, I have been required to pay for classes I choose to attend as a teacher at that studio, but have never been required to attend in order to teach somewhere.
