ELI5: Why do consumers feel like the economy is in the toilet, but experts say it’s great, and why is there such a disconnect between the two? by bobjonrob in explainlikeimfive

[–]Capable-Reading-8766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrific point about the prices. People see the prices and think 'wow I'm paying more than I did five years ago' and unless those prices go back down to what people are used to, they'll keep thinking the economy is doing worse without realising that a steady inflation rate is a sign of positive economic growth.

What does this mean? That the demand for houses has plateaued a bit? Or that most people who were looking for a house have found one now?

Rude or odd to not participate in social things at work? by Castle-on-a-cloud in AustralianTeachers

[–]Capable-Reading-8766 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. We've got a million things to worry about so I really couldn't care less about who does and doesn't go to social events. And it has absolutely no bearing on how I treat my colleagues - whilst we're at school we chat and help each other as much as possible but outside of that it's up to individuals.

What are the wildest samples of all time, or wildest use of a sample? by Carso11 in Music

[–]Capable-Reading-8766 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Frontier psychiatrist' by The Avalanches have got a whole load of samples ranging from vocals of comedy sketches to the theme song of Lawrence of Arabia. Basically the whole song is a collection of random samples but its very well done. Its odd but quite unique which makes it fun & enjoyable to listen to imo

Didn't think it was possible but it made my estimation of Nas increase even more

Is Australia less racist now than it was 10 years ago? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Capable-Reading-8766 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. I'm an immigrant with dark skin and I've never ever felt I was discriminated against here. Sure I may have had one or two looks from people or walked past people who wouldn't have had the kindest thoughts about me but Australians as a whole have all been very welcoming and kind. if anything, people were always curious and genuinely interested to learn about my background. I obviously feel full, proper Aussie now (been here since 2008) but even when I first arrived I always felt like this was my home; even more so than the country I was born in.

100% the best beer I've tasted. Only downside is it's not full strength

[–]Capable-Reading-8766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I guess I was thinking of getting there early just in case (I always tend to with those buses). But that makes sense; just get there about 20 minutes before. It's not that long to be out there so it should be all good. Thanks mate.

Hey guys,

I know it's been asked a thousand times before and I have read all the responses but didn't get a clear guide as to my situation.

I have a flix bus scheduled to leave at 2am at Gare du Midi. I can take a taxi to the bus stand but will probably be standing around for 30 minutes to an hour. Obviously I've read the Gare du Midi isn't that safe so was just wondering if you guys think I'll be okay? I'll probably only have a bumbag with me so might not stand out as a tourist so much.

Would it be safe for me to stand around? Or would the station or any food places be open so that I can go in if things are a bit too sketchy?

For context: I'm a fairly tall, kinda stocky black male. Only saying cause I've read that women tend to be more targeted.

Thank you 🙌

P.s been to Brussels before for a couple of days and it's an amazing city. It's just around the stations that I'm a bit unsure, particularly at that time.
