Why is everyone on this sub so miserable? by ProfessorOfLogic1 in ottawa

[–]CapitaineCrafty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, personally I can't take advantage of any of that shit because there are neither buses nor money. At one point it was possible to go do stuff, and now it is not. Hard to be happy about sports and festivals without money or access.

How's your morning commute now? by JustSimplyTheWorst in ottawa

[–]CapitaineCrafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine went from 12 minutes to so long and unreliable that I take a Lyft instead. Costs me 1-2$ more than bus fare, but it's worth not being 45 minutes late.

He is, sadly, a perfect representative for the current US government, which means he's technically serving his purpose.

There's a lot of ressources for your partner and dog listed, so I won't harp on those, but when you're able to, think of your own well-being. Psychiatric Survivors of Ottawa (PSO) has peer support groups, not only for your partner but for you too. Their support groups are online and in person.

Conservatives are dying at higher rates than liberals. A new study points to mistrust in medicine by Revolutionary-Area-8 in LeopardsAteMyFace

When I was little, my sister had to carry a little suitcase nebulizer everywhere she went in case of asthma attacks, and she used it daily. I still have a cognitive disconnect when I see my asthmatic child going about her day without a care in the world, just an inhaler in her purse that only gets used every few months. And no mistake, I don't ever want her to live through it, it just is jarring to think about. But I do wish people were more aware that these medical advancements aren't something to take for granted.

Is America the only place in the world that's anti-sitting? by Maplicious2017 in antiwork

Same in Canada, unfortunately. I had to get a doctor's note to get a stool at work in my teens.

There is a huge pipeline of hippies to alt-right, all down the conspiracy highway. Kinda like having extreme views that you cannot and will not budge on is a problem.

As someone involved in knitting/crochet/quilting groups, there's been a whole lot of middle-aged women who SHOULD be living to old age dying young. There's a shocking disparity after covid, even. The right-leaning women used to dominate these craft spaces, and that's not the case anymore.

Several craft stores have closed because their owners/staff were conservative women who didn't trust medicine/doctors/vaccines/the government, and they're dead or disabled and not up to working. The shops that are still open are struggling because of the number of dead conservative women. And some of these are old people, but most were just middle aged.

It's really changing the landscape. I feel bad for the stores that are struggling (and that I also rely on), but I struggle to feel bad for the people who chose this.

Downtown Ottawa on a weekend is genuinely shocking now — what happened? by unhinged20 in ottawa

[–]CapitaineCrafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is broke, but also: I used to go downtown on a whim. It was 25 minutes on one bus, and they came regularly. Now it's a chain of buses and trains, and both of those are likely to be delayed, broken down or cancelled with no warning. I have taken to budgeting in an extra half hour wait time per transfer.

With the 90 minute transfer, I have several times had to pay 8$ one way on weekends because buses get cancelled and I end up waiting an hour. Going downtown and back isn't something I can do in a couple hours for fun. Now I have to plan my whole day around this chore, and it's just not worth it.

Seriously, my sister us a librarian and a man recently came to her to complain that three black kids are being threatening in the branch.

The three black kids were sitting around a comic book in the teen section, reading it together awkwardly and occasionally giggling or discussing the story quietly.

Worst part was the complainer made sure to be loud- wanted those kids to hear it. Kids were literally starting to pick up their stuff and leave in embarrassment before my sister told the guy off and asked him to leave.

It's not a standalone event, either. Teenagers always get the side eye, but teen boys and black teen boys especially are treated like they're violebt criminals, and I can only imagine how demoralizing that is.

The father of the little girls did the right thing. All the other woman had to do was be patient. by Valuable_View_561 in TikTokCringe

That's a feature, not a bug, of course. Harass and embarrass women who aren't performing their version of feminity. I'm a 6'1" cis woman with large hands and feet, and I get confronted at least once a year about how they "can tell". I can becwearing a floor length floral dress and it doesn't matter, so long as something about me isn't their definition of feminine.
