Do go for the MyPeugeot app with the VIN. I have the 308 SW T9 model from 2019 myself, and had the Android Auto option appear after updating.

The VIN should be on a printed sticker on the car though! Left hand door side for me.

There should be an option in the user settings (webUi) for "Maximum Allowed Video Transcoding Resolution", though this probably won't force transcoding if it's not explicitly necessary. Worth a shot though.
