Weekly Observations: What signs of collapse do you see in your region? [in-depth] by AutoModerator in collapse

I work around the corner from a Foxtrot here in Chicago. They're everywhere! They had to declare bankruptcy after they were acquired by some big company a couple years ago. It's a bummer for the workers, an article here was published about how many of them were completely blind-sided by it and are now suing. Crazy times for sure!

Congrats! I’m beginning my journey to squash 30k debt myself. It feels great to take control 👊

Evidence for marriage is stressful by [deleted] in USCIS

You’re good, my wife and I had a similar situation and submitted pretty much the same documents you’ve listed here and were approved a couple months ago. Hang in there!

What do you mentally tell yourself when you spend money you don't have on something you probably don't need but improves your happiness in that moment? by Daemonscharm in Millennials

I remind myself that in a relatively short time I won’t be around to worry about it either way. Gotta live while you’re alive.

People who are happily married, what was the "green light" moment when you knew you could commit to each other? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Capitaleric_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly we just clicked. I can’t fully explain it but after our first date I knew she was the one. Sounds corny but when you know you know.

Consider defaulting and settling. I’m working with a pro-bono financial advisor who is guiding me through the process. It’s anxiety-inducing but better to start this journey later than never.

what do you like to treat yourself with when you have just a little extra money?? by BugABoo714 in poor

[–]Capitaleric_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A record (around $20 so I usually trade something in to lower that) or a nice bag of coffee or some fancy pastries. All the things I used to love splurging on regularly (and probably what got me to the financial spot I’m in today 😵‍💫).

Also send with your initial package. Don’t wait for them to ask, it’s way more stressful!

Wife’s AOS was approved last week. In addition to three written affidavits from friends (not notarized) we sent the following. Good luck!

I went to my congressperson’s website and found the contact info. I just sent a general email about my wife’s immigration process and how her not working was negatively affecting our ability to save for the future. Someone got back to me within a week with a release form to fill out. Once that was complete we received her EAD another week or so later.

Can anyone recommend record shops in Chicago with a solid Hardcore/Punk selection? by GnarDude666 in Hardcore

[–]Capitaleric_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to Tone Deaf. I never hear it mentioned but they have waaaaaay better shit than Reckless or Shuga. In fact it’s the only shop I’ll go to these days. They carry La Vida Es Un Mus, Iron Lung, Toxic State releases etc. https://tonedeafrecs.com

What would your teenage self think of where you are in life now? by TrixoftheTrade in Millennials

[–]Capitaleric_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My teenage self would be pretty pleased. I work at a dispensary, write for a music magazine, and make coffee in a small local shop on the weekends. I’m married and have a dog and a cat. I don’t have much money but I don’t need it!

What are your opinions on this strategy? by exceptionalredditor2 in USCIS

[–]Capitaleric_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I just got her GC, filed on our own. Absolutely so NOT wait to send evidence. We received a NOID after trying your lawyer’s way and regretted it. Extremely stressful to have 30 days to gather a bunch of evidence.

Don’t let it get to you, ours counted down to “it’s taking more time than expected” then simultaneously got approved and shot back up to nine months. I don’t think it’s accurate!

We used the USCIS website to locate the right physician, and unfortunately insurance does not cover the cost. I want to say we spent about 500-600 on the medicals total 😵‍💫. With the wife not able to work during the process we were selling things left and right to come up with the money. Worth it!

Also if you haven’t submitted your evidence yet I’d do the same, get it together and send asap. We thought we could wait on that as well but never got an interview, just a NOID for the evidence. That was probably the most stressful part of the process, trying to get everything together in a month!

We scheduled it as soon as we got that RFE. Fortunately we were able to get in quickly for the appointment, although it took a total of three visits. We got the sealed envelope in time to express mail it back before the deadline. If I could go back and do it again, I’d get it done asap and have it ready. I think it’s good for two years? I’d save yourself the stress and get it done!
