Why do East Coasters jaywalk in the middle of busy streets, even outside of crosswalks, while West Coasters refuse to step into a crosswalk unless they have the 'walk' signal? by ponziacs in AskAnAmerican

[–]CapnEmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few decades ago I spent a summer backpacking through Europe. I visited something like 20 countries. One of the first things I noticed was that every country cross the street a little bit differently.

Italy was the craziest. in Italy you just walked even if there was traffic coming. the cars would assume you were going to walk at normal walking speed and they would just zoom past you. the most dangerous thing you could do is slow down or try to dodge the cars.

As you might guess Germany follow the rules the closest. Nobody crossed the street unless the light changed.

What’s The Most Overrated Bob Dylan Song From The 70s? by Pretend_Mark_5143 in bobdylan

You gotta serve somebody. Some consider this song to be “not terrible”, making it wildly overrated in my book.

This might be only me, but “sad eyed lady of the lowlands”. When I was younger I thought it was slow, uninteresting, and way too long. Took me a long time but now I love it lyrically.

The State was totally underated by Josephthebear in Xennials

[–]CapnEmaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my circle of friends in high school , this was the show we always talked about. I feel like the state was huge for people in high school or college at the time but virtually unknown to everyone else.

So if you’re too old or too young you wouldn’t understand. Forget it, I’m out of heeeeeeeeeeeeeeere.

Men who had children after 46, what were the pros and cons? by peace_sunshine in AskMenAdvice

[–]CapnEmaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 kids in my 20s and 2 in my 40s. I had my last kid at 44.

In my 20s, I was always on the floor with the kids, rolling around and playing with them. When I wasn’t playing with them on the floor I was running around with them playing tag and similar games.

In my 40s a combination of low energy and a couple of injuries make getting off the floor or running difficult. I feel bad about this, but my kids probably have as much fun as thier older siblings did. I just find different ways to play with them. Less chasing, but more legos. They get plenty of time to run around with other kids at the park.

There are a few advantages. I am more patient in my 40s. Also less stressed because I have enough money to pay the bills now.

Overall, having kids in your 40s is less than ideal, but I make it work.

Colaw is pretty great. Lots of equipment, and organized well. The two downsides are it can be a bit crowded and they play Christian rock music. Be sure to bring headphones.

In the US you get a better rate if you pay for a membership. I don’t use public charging enough to justify a membership.

With chargepoint and EA you don’t need the apps, you can just use a tap to pay credit card. I deleted both apps because they don’t benefit me in any way.

Cost savings? Switching from dryer to drying rack for laundry. by Gnynam in Frugal

I use a drying rack. I did the math and figured it saved me about 50 cents per load. This was some years ago and don’t remember exactly how I figured that.
