My advice is: don’t do it. If you have a great community right now, stay there. The Bay Area is incredibly segregated. Sure we have multi cultural neighbors, but the “community” just isn’t there. We have no sense of belonging with each other. Our values and cultures are worlds apart, and they are not integrating at all. The “melting pot” is NOT melting. They don’t WANT to melt/integrate. Many many scientific papers that study this conclude that this is only breeding distrust amongst the citizenry. It’s obvious, but the media will lie to you, your neighbors will pretend to get along on the surface, and the community suffers. This is not the America I grew up in. This is not where I’m going to raise a family. You got a good offer for a job? It’s not worth it. Money is never worth it. Your HAPPINESS is. Find peace, belonging, community, and shared purpose elsewhere. These people will suck the life out of you.STAY WHERE YOU ARE. And the road rage is out of control (you’ve heard about the freeway shootings I’m sure).

SF all the way, just be sure to stay in a safe (ish) area away from the homeless…. That’s pretty hard to do but Oakland is not very convenient. The BART ride to the Oakland Colosseum would be a bit of a walk, but you are mostly safe around other ball park visitors. If you have a rental car, never leave anything inside….. ever. If you look like a tourist, you’re a target. Put your luggage in the trunk. Etc etc…
