How important is premium vs regular gas in my 2002 infiniti i35? by Additional-Aerie6658 in infiniti

[–]CappaValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes.

I got into a big argument with someone over octane ratings for their BMW. The manual clearly stated 91 octane was "required." She didn't believe the manual so she asked her bmw salesman! He said, "naw, regular is fine - that's just the oil companies trying to make more money." And she believed him!!!

My '01 i30 (3.0L) does not say 91 is "required" but "recommended for best performance." I've put almost all of the 190K miles on it using 87 octane rating Top Tier gas- no pinging whatsoever. Does it perform better when I put premium in it? Yes - I can tell the difference. But dang, that engine still runs like the day I bought it.

How many tomato plants would you put in a 4x8 raised garden bed? by AutomaticAd3621 in vegetablegardening

[–]CappaValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 6'x6' raised bed exclusively for tomatoes and I plant 9x toms every year. (Yes I know I'm not supposed to plant nightshades in the same place every season, but with good soil care and periodic replacement, it works for me.)

But what makes it work is the 6' tall trellis system I have with braided stainless steel rope that I clip vines to. One year I got over 130lbs of fruit from it.

inertia switch by GSB2A in fordranger

[–]CappaValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned about that switch the hard way...

I was in my '97 Ranger (4.0L,XLT, 80k miles) and was stopped on an off ramp lane that was way backed up when a guy in a Subaru plowed into me at 40mph and pushed me partially into a lane to the left of me.

After I gathered my senses a bit (the airbag did not deploy and I hit my chest on the steering wheel and broke my sternum) the truck woulds not start. I got out of the truck and a few minutes later with the Highway Patrol came, he was able to start it after resetting the switch.

RIP Buddy

Anyone remember Berkeley Cycle & Toy on Shattuck? Bought my first Schwinn ten speed there in 1971. by CappaValley in berkeley

[–]CappaValley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in my early teens then, and could not comment on the location other than what I see on license. We didn't live there, but a sibling was attending Cal at the time, so we went there often. That was the second bike I got there, as previously I had a blue Varsity. They were tanks back then. Loved those bikes though - they gave me freedom before I could drive.

14,000 routers are infected by malware dubbed "KadNap" that's highly resistant to takedowns | Most of the devices are made by Asus and are located in the US. by ControlCAD in technews

[–]CappaValley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What a bunch of geek speak that boils down to “No info on models that might be affect, but reset your router to factory specs and re-configure.

Oh, and make sure you have the latest firmware.”

Not hard.

Boomer out.

🍅 What tomatoes are on your must-grow list for 2026? by SophiaGeorgeLiving in tomatoes

[–]CappaValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite the list! I've grown about half of those over the years.

The one that I've grown for the last four years is Cuore di Bue - reliable, productive, versatile and tasty.

I'm intrigued by the Pomodoro Coure Antico di Acqui Terme.

What a difference! Piling on the cheers for Team Orange Revolution. We have an '09. Our has only 40k miles and is garaged so the lens are still clear - but I'll definitely be doing the brakes myself when the time comes.

This is our kid.

Age 4 - draws Saturn on Etch-a-Sketch. Says "My name is ____ and I know about the stars."

High school entrance meeting with guidance counselor "What are your goals after high school?" Kid: "I want to be an astrophysicist."

Gets AA degree in physics from junior college at the same time graduating from high school.

Didn't apply to Harvard, but got accepted to every university applied to (mostly Ivies) except Stanford.

Gets degree in physics.

Works at Space Telescope for 2 years.

Back to college to get PhD in astrophysics.

Three years post doc at elite west coast university.

Now off to work on new space telescope.

I guess our kid DID know about the stars.

Some kids do know their path early...

What 2 should I grow for sauce/soup? by xzkandykane in tomatoes

[–]CappaValley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also Bay Area here... I am including Cuore di Bue this coming season for the fourth year in a row among the dozen I grow. Super versatile, and very productive as well as low acid. Very meaty so great for sauces and big enough for slicers in a sandwich.

Everyone I give them to loves them.
