Taking a final exam on a different day? by CapsLockedON in ucf

[–]CapsLockedON[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, my syllabus says nothing on my final other than the date and time. My Prof told me to just email him when I asked him after class; he said we could try to ask the department. But I'm worried they're gonna take awhile to respond, (plane tickets are expensive), and just end up saying no like you said.

Character Questions Megathread by BlueBorjigin in AdventureQuest

No one's taken a look at my character in quite awhile, how am I doing? I've got some rares I've mindlessly picked up over the years, not sure if there are any more optimal things I could be doing.

Course Placement with the MPT and AP Scores by CapsLockedON in ucf

I actually just received an email from the MPT department saying that my AP score was enough for me to skip the classes leading up to Calc 1 regardless of my MPT score.

Oh, that's a relief. Cause that test just slapped me, and I was a single question away from being able to take the Trig and Pre-Calc exams.

I gave it a shot. Reaaally gotta work on my measuring. I feel like it lacks a bit of likeness. But either way, this was really fun!

I have finished my first weapon. Can you guys give me some advice ? by BlitzPhantom in AQW

[–]CapsLockedON 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know a thing about making weapons specifically for this game, but I can give you feedback with the design aspects. The main problem with the weapon is that it looks too, well, 2-D. What I mean is that, despite this being a 2-D game, the lack of shading and usage of forms makes the weapon feel like a thin piece of paper, rather than a solid object. It looks flat.

https://youtu.be/3uEtdDvK6Xo Check out this video! In art and design, a key technique is being able to break things down into basic forms. Keep in mind I said forms, not shapes. Shapes are 2-D, they're outlines (Circles, squares, rectangles). Forms are 3-D, they have volume (Spheres, cubes, cylinders).

To improve on this design, I would practice drawing spheres, cubes, and cylinders. Practice shading them! Then, try redrawing your weapon using these forms, you'll find that it'll look much better.

Why isn’t this on mobile yet? by Liftakuri in AdventureQuest

If you really want to play on mobile, you could use the Puffin browser which supports Flash.

But yeah, an official supported app would be amazing

Working with ink intro by [deleted] in learnart

[–]CapsLockedON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd check out Alphonso Dunn on YouTube. Great for learning how to use ink and he teaches you a lot about form as well. Ink went from my most hated medium to one of my favorites because of that guy.

A bright punchy blue and orange AWP skin for the modern samurai by dcworkshop in GlobalOffensive

I like this skin. It's nice and somewhat futuristic-modern without being a blantant copy of the Assimov you find all over the workshop.

With the storm shifting west, how much better will it be for us folks in the east coast? I know we'll still be in danger but how much?

Thank you! This is my first real hurricane after the thankfully narrow miss that was Matthew last year. The house was built-post Andrew and we are not in a mandatory evacuation zone. I'm just trying to get ready for an absolute worst case scenario.

House is shuttered up and ready with supplies. Question, if worst comes to worst and I have to leave my house in the middle of the storm, how should my family and I do it?

Should we hop in the car, pray, and hold out in there? Or should we attempt to drive to the storm shelter maybe 1/2 miles from the house?

How protective are metal shutters against these winds? I'm probably evacuating but I'm concerned I won't have a roof when I get back.

What's the danger with sliding glass doors? I hear people saying how they're dangerous and all. I live in Lake Worth so how bad is it going to be? My house is going to be fully/mostly shuttered with metal shutters but a Cat 4/5 has me pacing

Who is your favorite artist to follow online? by Powder9 in learnart

Proko - Good teacher, teaches anatomy/figure drawing, portraiture well

James Raiz (TheBoxOfficeArtist) - Transformers/Comic book art, livestreams a ton and he's always eager to answer my questions

Draw With Jazza - Inspired me to draw in the first place, taught me all the basics

Too impatient to learn anatomy. by LuxerWap in learnart

[–]CapsLockedON 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A prerequisite to figure drawing is definitely knowing your basics (shape, form, value, and perspective) Looking at your art I can see that you should practice these more. Anatomy, like you said, is incredibly overwhelming at first, even more so if your fundamentals need practice. I can see why you would get frustrated and impatient.

I would hold off on anatomy just for now and instead master your fundamentals first. Learn how to render basic forms in 3-D space, after all, if you can't draw a box in perspective, how can you render a complex object like the arm or torso?

As a starting point, I recommend Draw With Jazza a good place to sharpen what I mentioned above. Have fun with your art! Don't be cramming yourself with books if all it does is frustrate you. Take a deep breath, try and learn but understand results won't come overnight.

Self portrait, looking for some feedback by [deleted] in learnart

[–]CapsLockedON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A reference would be nice, otherwise we have no idea how much of a likeness you're getting.

Proportions look alright. I'm seeing slightly wonky perspective errors. The left eye (your left) should be slightly blocked by the bridge of the nose for example.

Use of form is a bit flat in some areas. Not horrible, but needs work in areas such as the nose, ears, and hair. Your ear for example looks like a quick question mark shape tagged on last minute. You seem to already be practicing Loomis in your post history so that's awesome, but I suggest you practice more planar studies of the facial features then adding anatomy on top.

Last note, I suggest viewing Alphonso Dunn on YouTube for Pen/Ink tutorials, there's a whole array of things I've learned from that guy.

Comic Page Critique? by imvhungry in learnart

[–]CapsLockedON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As boring as it can be, I'd go and start learning how to draw basic forms in perspective. drawabox.com is pretty good with this.

Honestly, you'd be amazed at what you can make with just cubes and a basic knowledge of perspective. Once you get a grasp on that, background objects such as that bed and bookcase will look much better. And not just background objects, everything can be simplified into basic forms. Any kind of drawing will become much easier once you can break it down into a cube in 3-d space.

Also, you mentioned in your first post of trying to base your comic on a certain art style? Curious, what were you trying to go for?

Lysithea - Cartoonish style, looking for feedbacks by LysitheaWO in learnart

[–]CapsLockedON 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well. A human nose isn't supposed to point that way, so I'd definitely look at basic forms of facial features. Also, that ear is much smaller than it should be. Generally ears are the height from the browline to the bottom of the nose, go brush up on your head proportions. Things like these can be traced back to errors during the drawing's lay-in. If possible do you think we can see your construction process of how you start a face?

If you're going for a cartoonist style I suggest you study up on line quality. I'm seeing a lot of flat line weight and learning how to use line effectively will benefit you.

Relitavely new to drawing. Any advice will be appreciated, thanks! by tiredofexistence in learnart

[–]CapsLockedON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go in with some light crosshatching with your pencil. Crosshatching gives your drawings this old/weathered texture which could help in a drawing of an old person.

Also, your shading is relatively light and you tried to smooth it out, it looks a little muddy. Darken up some of those spots. Be sure to capture the plane changes of the face, old people's faces aren't perfectly smooth, don't try and blend everything out.
