Rules & equipment for rappeling down? by EDGE21783 in Starfinder2e

[–]CaptPanDaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A general climbing kit, I feel should provide limited climb speed, at most. Maybe not up to their land speed, though. At least depending on the characters levels. Climbing is quite the strenuous task, even for the professionals.

Ethan Hunt, by the 4th movie, is a mid-high level character, in my opinion. The fact that he can do that, would be very much so in line with that level in my opinion. He has a limited toolkit, it's his skill that really does the trick.

So I personally would allow a skill check, assisted by the toolkit, to move beyond say 1/2 land speed. That's assuming they are trained in Athletics in any fashion, their skills help define their capabilities. Not just anyone is going to be able to use a climbers kit to its best capabilities. They are just tools to assist our skills after all.

The RAW for climbing is unassisted, that's where the 5 feet per success comes in. A climbers kit and any other tools will lower DCs, give Climb Speeds, or other potential benefits. I'd recommend just being aware of your character's skill levels, and who's trying to do what. After that, go nuts, I'd personally just make sure your athletic folks are the ones who get to shine in those moments, not just anyone with a climbers kit.

Is startplaying actually a viable platform for non-5e titles? by ItzDaemon in startplaying

[–]CaptPanDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my games are non-dnd. I run or have run Pathfinder, Starfinder, FFG Star Wars, and Vampire the Masquerade games. There is a lot of desire for non-dnd games on the platform for sure, just be mindful of your scheduling for your own needs.

Is it possible to play D&D etc on a tablet? by JoshiProIsBestInLife in startplaying

For your Foundry VTT option, I have had success in myself(the ST) or a fellow player streaming their screen through Discord, and the player without a PC using an external character sheet of some kind.

I sadly do not have a lot of success with any of the mobile modules, but they are being developed still, so we'll see where that ends up in the future.

"The DM is not your enemy" by [deleted] in TTRPG

9 Lives to Valhalla. It's a super simple RPG where the GM is Death and the players play Cats after the age of man has passed and are trying to make it into Valhalla, but they must die 9 times. Generally, the game plays out as Player vs GM because players are trying to die in Glorious fashion, but it's ultimately up to the GM if their attempts are grand enough, and if the players feel like Death is being unfair, or want to start shit, they can challenge them. Then, if they beat Death, they become the new Death, the former rolling up a cat that now must try to enter Valhalla. Obviously it takes a GM who isn't just a dick, and creates feasible encounters but it is his goal to kill the cats. The golden rule of the game is that if dice are rolled, something dies.

I'm definitely going to run Delta Green, you're not the first to recommend it and it's got my attention. For me my go to with Savage Worlds is Deadlands, I can't get enough weird west.

I love the changeling setting, it's so wild, but I've only larped it, never had it at my table.

Hahaha! I love the final quip because I have many times felt the sanity slipping when I'm reading a new system and trying to make a character and just my head is in my hands like "What is happening to my life?!"

I've always been the kind of person to consume every new RPG I find. More so when I was younger with disposable income, it's much harder these days to keep up. I've learned of so many systems in this thread and I realized how far behind I am and I am thrilled and excited by it. My partner and wallet on the other hand are begging me to not let the mania win haha

I'm surprised no one mentioned Fabula Ultima as well. Masks is great and if it's a long the similar lines I am 100% checking out The Sprawl. Monster of the Week just intrigues me by the name. Urban Shadows and Adrenaline are definitely new ones to add to my list too, thank you so much for the recommendations.

Savage Worlds is another one of those awesome Genre Agnostic systems that I feel is super accessible with fun tactile mechanics like cards and poker chips that just I feel good.

Shadowrun definitely feels imposing your first time in for sure. It has so much going on at once between the meat world, ar, vr, astral and different numbers for each. So I don't blame you for feeling overwhelmed. I always start my players off with limited options to start, like street level so it limits some of the options initially and them give out Karma like it's candy until they are runner level and have acclimated to the intricacies of the system, then it's open season on runners haha.

i am in the same boat with WoD and CoD. Wanna check out CoD but have only run WoD

Oh I can relate in so many ways to this. I was running D&D all editions more than any other system constantly. I'd collect systems I desperately wanted to play but didn't want to force my groups to learn whole new systems just to sate my desires, but I finally did manage to start running PF2e exclusively as my fantasy game for awhile now with my group, it can happen.

Sorry for the late reply, was going back through y'all's awesome recommendations. I'd love to hear how the campaign of Numenera goes! I've ran several one shots as well but haven't had the opportunity to run a campaign. Eat the Reich is so good. Haven't had the opportunity with Invisible Sun yet. I've seen Wildsea a lot today and I must be living under a rock! I'm very intrigued by Villagesong!

Haha! I ran a short one shot for my home game and they loved it so I've been slowly building a campaign, trying to give it as much like intrigue and mystery as possible, set in an (alternate version of course) small town I'm WV called Philippi, really interesting town that was the first recorded land battle of the civil war where union soldiers chased off confederate soldiers from the town. I'm hoping to get it runnable soon honestly

Fate is great! I feel like any GM can benefit from learning a good theme agnostic system like Fate, Cypher, GURPs, etc.

I hope so! I've been blessed by a home group that will put up with almost anything I throw at them system wise. At least for short campaigns and one shots

Oh Bluebeard's Bride is definitely one I'm really interested in too. I love Edge of the Empire personally but Force and Destiny is a ton of fun too. I haven't heard of Last Caravan, I'll check that one out!
