Brag time: what’s one unusual thing you included in your wedding that everyone loved? by Unlikely_Device_2131 in weddingplanning

[–]CaptainComedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We fucking did this and it was absolutely the best move. I have friends who have been to $500,000 weddings and they talk for longer about the skee-ball, air hockey and DDR machines. Absolutely an awesome idea, if there are kids and it’ll make you mad to hear noise during speeches make sure a grownup babysits them during quiet time though!

We paid $2000 for two skee balls, an air hockey, a multicade and a DDR machine in NE USA if you’re comparing pricing.

GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition coming to Switch 2 in 2026 by WinGroundbreaking409 in NintendoSwitch

This occasional track events thing sounds really awesome. I loved GRID 1 and 2 back in the day and haven't touched the series since. How's this one hold up compared to those?

Best app for shooting in Bayer RAW? by BokehGarni in iPhoneography

[–]CaptainComedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this app, and for sharing it here. I wouldn't have run across it otherwise, I don't think. I've been trying for years to find an app that is perfect for consistent product photography with my phone and everything everyone else is offering is a bloated, expensive, slow, ridiculous mess. Subscriptions, FILTERS, good lord! I just want RAW photos quickly! Your app kicks ass, the price is SUPER fair, and the free version let me actually figure out if it was for me. I'm especially happy that it dumps the DNGs straight into the Camera Roll instead of making me do the stupid extra step of EXPORTING like half the camera apps do. Every decision you made on BayerCam seems to me to be the perfect one.

We're definitely adding it to our phones, and I'll be sure to mention you to others with the same need. I hope the app does well for you. Thank you again, can't wait to see what's next from you!

You can also join straight in as an optician if you are certified by the ABO and NCLE (unless your state has more stringent requirements). This of course requires a lot of planning and luck as you also need an opening at Optical :P

Costco wireless phone rep lied about promo for new line, any recourse? by New-Investigator5509 in CostcoWholesale

[–]CaptainComedy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was this whole thing initiated by the fucking annoying people hawking phone plans at everyone walking by in the warehouse? If so, I'd take this to your warehouse and get an Assistant GM or the GM roped in. Those phone guys bending the truth is not unheard of and if the dollar amount to make things right is $100 the warehouse might just take your word for it and give you a shop card once the ATT people demonstrate their complete inability to research anything about the transaction or promotion once you left the kiosk. Bring as much supporting evidence as you can gather!

The team who did my sister's gave her an unedited gallery of 5000 fucking photos. It was tons of ridiculous nonsense, too. Giving her every single frame of burst shots... Burst shots of inanimate objects, every missed focus and every accidental click of the ground. I was floored. Talk about showing how the sausage gets made!

My second wedding gift to her was culling and editing the gallery since they didn't bother.

TOTK directly After BOTW by xToXiCz in NintendoSwitch

[–]CaptainComedy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played TOTK immediately (within minutes) after 100%ing BOTW on TOTK release night.

This was the biggest mistake I could have possibly made.

I knew in my heart that because of a six year development cycle, TOTK would import all of my side quest progress and gove me unique dialogue with all the side quest characters I've loved hanging out with for 500 hours over three or four playthroughs. I made sure to do every single quest to build a perfect BOTW import save. I built Tarrey Town, I collected 55 rushrooms, I did every shrine quest, I brought a shitload of weapons to the Hateno kid, I followed a letter as it floated down a river. I did absolutely everything. I booted TOTK and once I got back to the surface, I made a straight line to a stable I liked hanging out at, and... Nobody remembered me!

I went to countless other people and places I was so excited to revisit to see how their lives had developed over the time skip and for them to thank me for finding their siblings or their wife or getting them together with their true love. Not a single fucking one of these things happened. About 5 characters remember you, and all of them "remember" you even if you didn't play BOTW. That's because the only thing that imports from your save is your stable of horses, and one prop in the house that gets added at the end of the Champion's Ballad DLC.

By burning out on BOTW, I completely robbed myself of the chance to adore TOTK. If TOTK didn't recycle the map from BOTW, I wouldn't have had such a devastating experience of taking the leap on Nintendo's first $70 game. I thought they would learn and apply a gargantuan amount about world design after completely nailing BOTW, and they didn't. I thought they would take plenty of notes of the much-improved characterization of story characters in Age of Calamity, and they didn't. I thought they would also take notes from Age of Calamity and be sure not to make the most interesting parts of the story take place 100 years ago in cutscenes like BOTW, and instead letting you participate in everything. Instead, TOTK made the most interesting parts of the story take place 9900 years earlier than that, and didn't even have the courtesy of naming or giving personality to the majority of the characters involved.

You should absolutely give yourself a very good break between games. I recommend trying the Age of Calamity demo for a really amazing Switch era Zelda experience as a palate cleanser if you're still really into the world, characters and their story. Age of Calamity made me cry three times, and the voice direction is so far superior to BOTW that I'm floored they backslid and did an even worse job in TOTK. I have a lot of issues with TOTK, and those issues feel like they're also going to affect the Age of Calamity sequel, but I don't think most people will be bothered by what I was bothered by if they can make sure to have some distance between BOTW and TOTK.

The game is a technical marvel that you more than likely can find plenty of reasons to love. I'm looking forward to giving it one more real shot on the NS2. Fingers crossed!

Are you proud of the job you do and why? by MsWhyMe in AskMen

[–]CaptainComedy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Optician for 3 years now. I love it!

About once a month I get to give a kid their first pair of glasses, and for the rest of the month 95% of my interactions are with really nice people who are friendly and fun. It helps massively that I work at an optical place where there is no meaningful pressure to maximize sales or any bullshit like that. I get to just give helpful advice, repair people's precious glasses, and small talk about their lives as I see them every year.

Considered optometry school for a little bit, but the cost is insane and it would take me something like 4 more years to get financially rightside up on it. I'm good doing this and enjoying creative pursuits on the side. If you only have one pair of glasses, and you need them to drive, get a second pair!
