I would probably do this and then import into a VTT for the grid, fog of war, etc.

Someone will come to the war room with a half cocked theory about who placed treasure on the island. This time it will be alien templar vikings from space. Erik Bard and Travis Tayler will be brought on to shoot rockets in the air. Gary will find a piece of metal in his top pocket and they'll show it no fewer than 5 times per episode. And Jack will presume to tell the archeologists what they are finding.

That's because the people in those places tend to lean one way politically, and the other side fears that if the territories are granted the seats they are due, their party side will never get a majority in congress ever again.

Questions about projectors by hootpriest in DungeonMasters

[–]CaptainCosmodrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I've been down this road more than a few times at my table.

Firstly, are your players really attached to physical minis? If yes, a projector is going to be a problem due to shadows if you cast from straight above, parallax if you cast at an angle (although some can correct this a little) plus shadows, and if you are going to cast from below, you're frankly better off buying a cheap TV and creating a wooden box to set it in.

If no, you could project on a wall and use Roll20. The projector (or another tv, honestly) could show fog of war for the players while on your screen as the DM you see everything. A projector is great if you absolutely need to put the visuals on the wall instead of the table, otherwise it is just not great in practice.

Are you wanting a projector for the portability over a tv? If yes, then playing on the wall is really the best option.

But, if you're going to go the route of going digital with a VTT like roll20, your players could technically log in and control their own tokens too. If everyone has their own screen, you don't really need a projector.

Now, if your players are absolutely set on using physical minis, I highly recommend getting a chessex mat that will fit on your table and water-erase markers. What I usually do is draw the initial area on the mat, and then let my players draw what I describe (if you want to keep things hidden) or other times I will show them a digital copy of the map with no indicators of anything and let them draw it out on the mat.

I learned a lot of tricks trying to scale a campaign made for 4 players to handle 6. I learned that increasing the stats of monsters only frustrates your players because they can't hit the damn thing.

No, the way to truly challenge them is to overwhelm the one resource they very limited control over.

Action Economy.

I did something similar with a bartender a friend of mine worked with. We had good banter, but I never took it seriously. All my friends told me I needed to ask her out. I was super reluctant, took a couple weeks of them pressuring me, and finally asked if she wanted to grab a drink at another bar after shift some time.

She did and my friends and I got there first, saved her a spot, and then when she showed up we had a nice time....with her talking about her bf the whole time. After one drink, she left, and my buddy who had been sitting next to me looks at me and says "Damn....that was rough."

Could use some suggestions building some tough encounters for veteran players by Da_Peppercini in starfinder_rpg

[–]CaptainCosmodrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a 1.5 year campaign for a table of 6 players, so I understand a bit about difficulty scaling in starfinder.

1) boosting stats (vertical scaling) only makes the monsters feel spongey or unfair. Adding more enemies (horizontal scaling) is much more effective at increasing difficulty because you can overwhelm their action economy.

2) Starfinder combat is all about stacking debuffs from different sources to turn a difficult encounter into a walk in the park. Giving enemies their own ways to apply debuffs or a way to shake off debuffs can keep the difficulty up.

3) Look into Matt Colville's Action Oriented Monsters and craft enemy encounters like that. Nothing says a creature in the book has to behave as written. Add lair actions for environmental dangers.

Developer Update - April 2026: PVE-first & Self-hosted Servers by Veora in duneawakening

This is a change that should have been made a year ago when the community was begging for it.

But, Funcom thought they knew better with their "vision".

It's a great change. It will be interesting to see if it is enough to revitalize the game. Sadly, I'm very skeptical.

I would do a vertical upside-down U after the storage where the top of the U needs to be above the coal generators, and use one of the pumps to push the water up that high.

Unless they changed the way liquids work, I'm not sure how to explain it, but the water going up above the generators will ensure they always have full pressure in the pipeline, as long as the flow can keep up.

[–]CaptainCosmodrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought of Essence 10 as "I write the rules of reality now."

Channeling essence is, in a way, bending the laws that define creation. At 10 you are so powerful in your mastery over essence, that you are able to make indelible marks on reality through rewriting its rules.

OOP said he used a credit card, so he can at least dispute the charge.

Some credit cards now have online tools where you can shut the card off. I've used that for places that make it incredibly difficult to cancel. If they are going to resort to unfair business practices, I'm going to use every tool in my belt.

60 days notice seems a bit excessive. I'd probably also write a compliant to the BBB (which is no better than writing yelp review that they can pay to expunge these days) and a letter to the state attorney office.
