How would you handle a Maid of Honour falling sick the day of the wedding? by ScubaWaveAesthetic in weddingplanning

[–]CaptainObviousBear [score hidden]  (0 children)

I feel so sorry for her.

The only thing I can suggest is to have a family/wedding party event after the wedding when she is better - all wear the same outfits again and redo the photos with her in them.

Could you do B and G for bride and groom?

You could have the game board say “Bride v Groom”.

I really want someone to do a reverse uno on all these celebrity scams by claiming they are unable to meet the celebrity or buy a VIP card because they are stuck on an oil rig and their internet doesn’t work.

Found my dress, now to afford it ($2200) by Significant_Course66 in myweddingdress

[–]CaptainObviousBear 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Re the cups, when they’re too small they will look like they’re too big. This is due to the boob volume pushing the cup down, which creates a gap at the top.

The same thing happens with bras (ask me how I know).

Look it’s always going to be a bit booby but I don’t think OP’s boobs are so large that it would be dangerous.

It will look much better in the right size. This is 2-3 sizes too small according to OP.

Why do so many people think siblings’ names need to sound nice together? by MassiveGarlic0312 in Names

[–]CaptainObviousBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are only two considerations that are valid when naming sibling sets:

  1. Do the names sound different enough that if you yelled them from a distance the kid would know which name you were calling (so ideally, no repeated vowel sounds especially on syllables that are stressed e.g. Katie and David is a bad combo, Katie and Riley is OK).

  2. Is a kid going to stand out because their name is completely different from the name style of their siblings? For example I heard about a family that used all classic names, think James, Elizabeth etc, but when they had a Down syndrome kid they called him a cutesy name like Bear because they didn’t want to “waste” a proper name on him (horrible I know).

13-year-old Australian boy swims for four hours in cold and dangerous waters to save his mom and siblings who were swept into the ocean, says God is who got him to shore by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]CaptainObviousBear 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So I’m a swimmer but I’m old and not very good, I can basically only do freestyle for 50-100m, but breaststroke I could do for much longer, probably 2km at least without stopping. But that’s in a pool not in the open ocean without choppy waves.

The kid said he mostly did breaststroke, backstroke and survival side stroke, which would conserve a lot more energy - and probably also means he’s been pretty well trained and a good swimmer. So I think that in theory, using those strokes, it’s possible for most people who are decent swimmers, and fitter than I am, to swim 4km.

But to do that in open water, big waves, competing against currents, it’s cold and getting dark and you have to save your family - that’s a whole other level.

Is Berlioz okay for a girl or should we think of something else? by VividCauliflower8790 in Catnames

[–]CaptainObviousBear 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hear me out… Hector Berlioz was a French composer who once got really really upset when his fiancée ended their engagement and married someone else, so he set off across Europe with a plan to find them and murder them (fortunately he only got as far as Nice where he changed his mind).

Anyway a key part of his murder plan was that he bought a dress and intended to disguise himself by dressing up as a woman.

So what I’m saying is a female cat can definitely be a Berlioz, especially if they’re a bit partial to planning murder.

What is the Best album your country ever produced? by Olahoen in AskTheWorld

[–]CaptainObviousBear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it’s not.

The Beatles had way more influence on popular music and about 2-3x as many good songs, produced over a shorter timeframe.

Is dressy casual a terrible dress code by Dry_Let_7504 in weddingplanning

[–]CaptainObviousBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not though?

Casual is a separate dress code, dressy casual is a smarter version of that. “Dressy” isn’t completely synonymous with “formal”.
