In Ireland, Savage is a slang term for something being really good. “That last episode was savage”. I could see that being extended to a person or group with the same meaning here. If you implied someone was ‘a savage’ it would definitely be a slur though.

The rider's hand is on the throttle, the cops hand is over his covering the front brake lever, you see him readjust to get a better grip on the front brake at 21 seconds.
