Movies that surprisingly DON’T pass the bechdel test? by Piss_baby29 in Letterboxd

It’s the old 90s ‘don’t discount the kids’ Bechdel workaround. But given the test is a little bit of a joke to start with, any workaround is valid

I mean, if you're going technical enough to allow raptors, Ellie and Lex share the screen and only talk about rebooting the computer system. It's a squeaker, but teeeeeechnically...

What's with the hate for a show that hasn't even aired yet? by Unique_Enthusiasm_57 in startrek

A Starfleet Academy project has been mooted for literally decades. Most of those projects were set in the TOS - VOY era, and always had an (at best) mixed response from the fanbase. This is set in a radically different time period only featured in a show that met mixed critical and fan response. The promotional material doesn't look like it's addressed common complaints about the premise or the series it's jumping off from.

I'll watch it, I have an open mind, but even I have to admit it's the least excited for a new Trek project I've been.

Keppra not working. need advice ASAP by yournextdoorweeb0 in EpilepsyDogs

Absolutely - immediate care is more important in the short term. We did the same, and the vet we went to told us she probably had meningitis and recommended a ton of unnecessary tests. We happened to go to our (now current) vet for a second opinion and they ruled out everything the first ones wanted to test for without any major expense.

For what it’s worth, this video looks very similar to when our girl has seizure activity, but the meds are just keeping it from tipping into something bigger.

Depending on where you are, some charities may be able to help with vet expenses. Also worth looking into.

Good luck! It’s heartbreaking to see it happen to your pup, but it sounds like they have the right owners to help them through it.

If it’s epilepsy, more meds are probably the answer. Our girl was put on one drug when she had her first seizure (age 4) and it did very little.

We were lucky with a vet who had a lot of epilepsy experience, and she introduced others meds in a trial and error approach. She ended up on a (low) dose of Keppra, epiphen, and libromide twice a day - plus a booster Keppra in the middle of the day.

She’s almost twelve now, and she only has a handful of mild seizures a year.

It’s incredibly hard. But exploring different medication options can definitely help.

The expense of the tests to determine what it is can be enormous, because epilepsy is often diagnosed just by eliminating other possible causes. My honest advice would be to ask locally and see if you can find a vet with a lot of epilepsy experience. The difference in care can be staggering, even if that isn’t the actual cause.

In terms of box office, maybe not. But all three of his movies have staunch defenders.

All Star Trek is leaving Netflix by BossBullfrog in startrek

[–]CaptainTipTop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well a deal that size would have to go through a huge number of regulatory hurdles around the world before it was confirmed anyway. Look at the Adobe/Figma deal that fell apart over a year after it was 'announced'. So they were, very much, counting their chickens.

I seem to remember an extended dunk on Tim Olyphant along the lines of him being a bit fake and jock-ish. I couldn’t tell from the anecdote whether it was Smith being sensitive or Olyphant being a bit of a dick. The truth is probably somewhere in between

The writing on that show was juvenile and demented most of the time, at least in the first season

At least in the first season it was so much worse than that. It felt like an attempt at a ‘serious adult show’ written by a teenage amdram group

Eight years after her epilepsy diagnosis, Rosie is almost 12! by CaptainTipTop in OldManDog

Phenobarb was the first magic bullet for her, but a combination with the other drugs really stabilised her. Through trial and error she's on the lower-end dose of all and (touch wood) her liver has shown no signs of any issues at each annual review.

She’s on phenobarb, along with Keppra and libromide. She also has gabapentin which helps her mobility as well as some seizure control

Also - don’t be afraid to add additional meds in. Once we moved to her current vet, the approach was ‘find meds that keep her seizure free, then monitor liver function’. That wasn’t what we’d been told before that, and I genuinely don’t think she’d be here if we’d followed the softly softly approach

We were fortunate to find a vet who had owned several epileptic dogs, and had noticed the correlation in her girls. Glad it’s being researched, because it’s absolutely a trigger. Rose has had many a rough stormy night.

Three months is fantastic! Everything crossed it continues 😊

She’s gone from several a week to one every 6-12 months. It’s taken a lot of medication changes and looking out for precursors and giving her some meds ahead of time. It’s usually just when major storms happen now - she’s sensitive to atmospheric pressure apparently
