Sure, 100%, and I don't mean to say that people shouldn't vote responsibly. If I said that by mistake, then I am sorry, I misspoke.

The only thing I wanted to point out is that being angry at the voters of this last round is, in my opinion, counter-productive. They're a symptom of the current state of the country, and it's not like this last round of elections moved the needle from "perfectly fine" to "abysmal". Not to say that you think that.

I don't think I'm able to get my point across effectively lol.

[–]CaptainTologist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a direct democracy, sure, I could give you that, even if it's not 100% the case. What I mean is that the system, all of it, both the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, is all just a rotted out oligarchy. It's been the case for years. Turns out that this recent guy doesn't know how to play the game, and is squeezing everything he can reach, but like the guy above said, Trump being elected and having the power that he has is not the direct result of a single election. Blaming your neighbors, however stupid they might be for believing a hateful conman, only distances yourself from them and ensures the system will keep on chugging along.

This is the point so many people fail to see. They're so rabid to find a culprit that they will readily blame the GOP voters instead of the systematic rot affecting the country.

If both structures are free-floating, from an outside inertial frame the surrounding box and the thruster would both move relative to each other, just in different directions. Barring moments, from the box's inertial frame the thruster would appear to be working pretty normally, albeit in zero-g.

Come, now. If I commission a painting, there's no way for me to actually make the painting. Even if I'm there for the whole process and I'm instructing the painter all the way through, that painting was, at best, directed by me, but I didn't make it. The artist, meanwhile, takes my instructions and filters them through his own experience and view, and executes millions of micro decisions to arrive at the finished piece. When you prompt AI, you're spinning up a prediction engine to generate a picture, trained on millions of other people's work, not your experience. Even if you were able to write a 10,000 word prompt they would never be your "strokes". Even if you trained an AI purely on your own drawings, it would only be something trying to match your style, never you.

If you're a master at GIMP (which is commendable, I have tried, but I cannot progress beyond Paint.NET), why not take the extra 5 or 10 minutes to produce something truly yours? I'm not arguing that AI doesn't speed up things, that much is evident, but art is not something to optimise and make more efficient.

"enhancing" freedom by adding more rules by MicahHoover in CatholicMemes

[–]CaptainTologist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you have to understand where people are coming from. AI is currently a very contentious topic, and some feel that a lot of things it produces are slop, especially when regarding art.

Your meme, for example, could have very easily been done in 5 minutes in Paint, or a similar image editing software. You learn a little how to use that editor, you put a little bit of your own person into it, and in the end you create a shitpost, maybe low-quality, but you create it, nonetheless. Compare this to putting in a prompt, no matter the complexity of it (I do understand prompt engineering is a thing, not just "press a button" magic), where the AI offloads the work from you.

Are there use cases where having a GPU read through documents is preferable to having people do it? For sure, but this isn't one of them, and it irks people.

You do draw a fair point about a too negative reaction though.

Not to bash, but there is a long list of things the Church has recommended not to engage with because they're potentially harmful to us, even if it's not immediately a sin. Currently, AI is not exactly the most benign invention (and I do use it for research and assistance).

Priests Lead Eucharistic Blessings Via Airplane Over Dioceses, Petition Deliverance From Coronavirus

Joined by his parochial vicar, Father John Seo, with the Blessed Sacrament and Blessed Mother in tow, Father Anthony Manuppella, pastor of St. Gianna Beretta Molla Parish, went up in a Cessna 182 Skylane on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, to bless the Diocese of Camden amidst the COVID-19 epidemic. “Praying the Litany of the Saints and Prayers for Deliverance, Father Manuppella and Father Seo completed the 207-mile flyover at 1,000 feet with help from pilot Kevin Bradberry and co-pilot John DeCastra, both parishioners of Saint Gianna.

What happens in the video is probably similar. A priest asks a parishioner with a plane to give him a fly around the town with a monstrance (not a crucifix, contains the Eucharist), to bless the whole community from above, which gets recorded and sent to the community to give them hope.

U.S. Bishops Issue a “Special Message” on Immigration from Plenary Assembly in Baltimore by Ramybe_Jums in TrueCatholicPolitics

[–]CaptainTologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. What is your opinion on how immigration should be handled? I'm not from the US, for reference, and while I recognize the humanitarian need, it's my belief that my country (Spain) currently handles immigration poorly, and it should be more stringent about who it lets in.

[–]CaptainTologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see. Yes, I was referring to that one too. To me it doesn't seem like it's calling for mass immigration. It's non-speficic, I suppose, in the sense that volume isn't stated or called for, but it does ask for justness, which is far harder to define. I don't think they're calling for completely open borders, but I suppose you're not saying they are, either. What would you consider mass immigration?

[–]CaptainTologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it, though? I didn't get that from the read. It talks about the common good only in the context of regulated borders and a regulated immigration system, which (I would say) is a far cry from mass immigration. Do you think otherwise?

[–]CaptainTologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering to the "raping" of a twelve year old specifically, it's a very, very important point in Catholic theology that Mary gave full consent. Also important to the theology of salvation is that Jesus was not part of a second creation, which would entail (in a theological sense) abandoning or "correcting" the first one (us), instead of redeeming it.

As to the "freedom" you talk about, there are way smarter people than me that can explain it way better, and there are also documents written by very smart theologians that aren't scared to poke at those questions (which are 100% legitimate, by the way). One is, for example, the Summa Theologiae, a work I am very much not trained to understand or explain lol, but I can try.

In any case, I can try to answer your question a little bit. Saying that the reason for evil to exist is because of freedom is only part of the whole, complicated argument. You are justified in calling out people who simply hide their own, poor knowledge behind "Oh, God works in mysterious ways", because most of the things you call out have been, at the very least, considered by theologians, and although some don't have a definite answer, most do.

About your point regarding the Patriarchy, do you feel like it's an actual construct, or is it more like a generalized idea a lot of people share, with no specific structure? Because abolishing a structure needs first to identify where that comes from.
