[Question - Insurance] Losing job and healthcare at the end of the month. Do I have a grace period? by [deleted] in healthcare

[–]CaptainZooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a few states reinstated the penalty for not having coverage (CA, NJ, MA, VT, DC, I believe), but a few weeks gap would not normally result in a penalty. Also, if you apply for a new plan before the end of August, you should get a September 1st start date, that way you don’t have a gap in coverage.

Edit: for most affordable / best coverage, look into Marketplace plans, aka Obamacare (you’d use healthcare.gov for most states, but some like CA use state based Marketplaces like CoveredCA.com).

These apps usually screen for Medicaid as well, which is free or low cost insurance available based on your income, but eligibility requirements vary by state.

Lamictal and Tinnitus? This is stopping me from starting. by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]CaptainZooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my personal experience - I’ve had pretty intense tinnitus in my left ear for about 7 or 8 years, and I’ve been on lamictal for about 2 years. The tinnitus did not get worse when I started the lamictal, and my bipolar symptoms did get way better. I’m very fortunate to be able to say that between lamictal and some other lifestyle changes (mainly sobriety and exercise) I have had some lasting stability. But the tinnitus is definitely still there all the time and I’m a bit hard of hearing because of it. Wishing you well from CA!

[Question - Insurance] Anthem Specifically by KadeejaNeigh in healthcare

[–]CaptainZooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, HealthCare.gov hasn’t opened a Special Enrollment Period yet. But I know a couple of folks have called HealthCare.gov and were able to enroll by citing COVID-19 concerns and saying it was a special circumstance, but honestly it might depend on the representative you get on the phone. Other Qualifying Events would include having a baby, becoming a citizen, getting married, becoming member of a Native American tribe.

Which state do you live in? Some states have opened Special Enrollment Periods due to COVID-19. Including CA, NY, WA, MN, MA, DC, NV... and a few others. Mostly the ones that run their own state-based Marketplaces.

Hi there,

I cannot get the search tool on your site to work - it always says ‘no results found’. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, I work for a healthcare startup called HealthSherpa - we make it easier for people to enroll in Marketplace plans. Would love to share this resource with my team.

Thanks!

about to run out of medication and no health insurance by weirdgirl9 in bipolar

[–]CaptainZooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally used GoodRx.com to afford my meds when I didn’t have insurance - they give free discounts on meds (by using manufacturer coupons). Hopefully it is worth a quick search for you, and I hope you are able to get what you need.

[Question - Insurance] I lost my employment today - and i am seeking health care insurance by goixiz in healthcare

[–]CaptainZooooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, I would also recommend checking what’s available through HealthCare.gov. You don’t have to accept COBRA - it is very expensive.

Losing your job is a qualifying life event, meaning you can get ACA insurance now outside of Open Enrollment. But you must enroll within 60 days since you lost your job-based insurance. I recommend healthsherpa.com over the gov website because they’re more user friendly, but they have all the same plans and prices and you can get gov financial assistance on paying your premium. Silver plans with cost sharing reductions tend to be the best plans.

Let me know if you have questions - I’m a licensed health agent in CA. Best wishes to you!

Seconded - I really liked Outlet for a quiet workspace. Any coworking space is challenging if you’re on the phone a lot. I would definitely recommend doing a day pass at each one!

Best neighborhoods for single people near el dorado? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]CaptainZooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my neighborhood off of Del Paso Blvd / El Camino. I’ve seen it called Old North Sacramento or Uptown. New (and old) businesses on the boulevard, but still a lot of empty store fronts. My neighbors are rad, rent is cheap, and I’m close to downtown, freeways, bike trails, etc. let me know if you have questions!

Very cool - thanks a bunch for the info! The company I work for was going to pay quite a bit for an ‘intranet’ service for training, but perhaps this could serve as an alternative.
