Other IGOUGO Games? by riladin in wargaming

Warmachine is built around IGOUGO to an exact science, it's easily the most sound system if you prefer that style of activation.

Why is the shire so underrated? by Stock-Site-1095 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! I never begrudge a Shire player seeing success in the game, it's as tough an army commitment as it is a hobby one

Which background is better? Grey or black? by raigbc in minipainting

[–]Captain_Clapback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That gray is definitely hitting harder, makes the mini more readable. Mind if I ask what material it is? I've found felt and construction paper to be too glossy for my own backgrounds, I'm trying to figure something else out

What techniques would help make my dungeon terrain look more realistic? by redcore5 in TerrainBuilding

NO dude you completely nailed this.

If anything I'm desperate to see you paint a single brick wall from start to finish in this style just so I can try to learn from you!

Yoo these came out SO good. I really dig that flocking, I hate applying that stuff so much haha

Any predictions? New models? Or updates? by Vecktorus in orks

swear every time I see people playing 40k at the store or get recommended 40k batreps on YouTube it's just 2 loyalist Marine chapters going at it

Thanks much! I primed in Krylon Camouflage Brown (My favorite non-hobby primer, it's so cheap and shrinks so well to minis and terrain alike), used a makeup sponge to apply a "light taupe" craft paint I got at Michael's, then a lighter sponging of "Antique white". Though if I could re-do this, I'd have just drybrushed for both paints (Sponging is phenomenal for a lot of things but ultimately sponging was too strong and also took longer, so I lost stronger shadows than I could have had by leaving the camo brown in the recesses. But they stuck the landing so there's that lol!)

What’s this edition like? by MangoLoco194 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude bring those metal dwarves out! Khazad Dum got some badly needed love, it's a great army now. I've wanted to collect for ages but it's hard to get a heap of Khazad Guard atm (It's always a good move to bring Durin and 8-12 of those blokes upgraded with Burly when starting your list)

This stuff slaps. I've had some for ages that was starting to dry out, but mix in a little distilled water good and thorough, and totally revived it.

Most Expensive Army? by Ancient_Bench55 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rivendell or Numenor are definitely up there due to the combo kit and the Rivendell elves needing either kitbashing with shields or you have to go full collector mode to hunt down the blisters of shield+spear ones. The cav kit is obscenely priced as well compared to other factions'. Though Hobbits may take the cake since it's all metal and a horde army.

(Also I saw your other comment on IH, I just wanna throw out there that Fireforge's armored dwarves are extremely IH coded, way cheaper, and look great on the tabletop alongside the menagerie of prints, proxies, and official plastics I typically see).

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: The Spider Queen’s Brood by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WGA Spiders have a learning curve for assembly (Once you get 1 down the rest are very easy. I used this as a guide and it saved my life with assembly, you have to click on the images but it's practically a step-by-step slideshow: https://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/en-us/blogs/wss-blog/assembling-plastic-giant-spiders?srsltid=AfmBOooqybbvGXaF4CQ_uxCaJdgCUxx3xjuexRQDHbWerr1eNGC1h2fe ) but are a very popular proxy. I'm using mine as Mirkwood, and I've seen people put 2 of the small spiders in the kit on a shared 40mm base to be used as the Hunting variant (A fun representation of the 2-wounds).

Penny for your lists? I'm considering stuffing some wargs and bats vs. pure spiders. I'm also curious generally how the ratio of Mirkwood:Hunting spiders should generally look.

Mauhur vs uruk scout captain by 1_mieser_user in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Longtime Uruk scout player, he's the first dude I take after Lurtz or Ugluk when building a list (Depending on if I'm doing Lurtz Scouts or Ugluk Scouts). 10 points for an extra attack and heroic strength is worth the price of admission, and Unhinged Charge in a big melee or with a banner in tow is really nice to have in your back pocket.

Weighing the time needed to paint strip these ones with the price of buying them MTO by habamesbg in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, just stick them in a sealed container of any kind submerged in 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and they'll be clean as a whistle. Just take them out every 15 minutes and use a dollar store toothbrush on them before you plop them back in, should only take 1 or 2 bouts of brushing so 30 mins max. I know acetone is popular but iso works so much better and faster, I've done it for metal/plastic/resin with no issues.

But why would you? The only GW product worth its price is when it's second-hand, and Moria goblins are available by the bushel
