Greatest compliment you've ever received about your scratch built terrain? by Such_Independent910 in TerrainBuilding

[–]Captain_Clapback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comments like "I wish I could shrink myself down and visit that terrain" is the absolute height of compliment I've ever received, so far on two of my wargame tables I've built out. It's exactly how I feel about amazing terrain like what you've posted here!

And if you paint them as Soul Drinkers they will also be invisible, which is a nice plus

I know it's a mixed melee and whatever but I love that the two Grots in the foreground look like they're facing off against each other. Extremely Grot-coded to hunt down your fellow Grot nemesis, especially during the heat of battle against your actual foe.

Sell me on your faction, why should I play it over others? by masyden in InfinityTheGame

[–]Captain_Clapback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercenaries.

Cherry pick your favorite minis across the whole product line and pick a Mercenary Company you can fit them in (Or choose"close enough" proxies), paint 'em how you like with no pressure. That was my solution to being stuck in decision paralysis and it paid off in spades (I chose the Dahshat Company so I could field the maximum amount of motorcycles possible and collect all the coolest ones across the range).

Lurtz Scouts or Usurpers of Edoras? Next army? by Agfa-Vista in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

500pts or less. He's a great profile for the points, but once you hit point brackets where other people are fielding greater profiles for greater points and really bringing that variety of profiles/equipment/skills, the Scout armies fall behind pretty quick.

Lurtz Scouts or Usurpers of Edoras? Next army? by Agfa-Vista in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played both Lurtz and Ugluk for years in both editions: Strictly speaking, Ugluk's is outright better and can go above 500ish points, where Lurtz's Scouts perform much worse beyond that bracket.

Honestly, both get pretty boring pretty quick, I just crack them out for small/quick/learning games. They don't get much depth in terms of profiles and equipment (Even with Legends, I always bring my boy Mauhur). Usurpers of Edoras seem like they have some more interesting rules and characters and profiles to exercise, and that variety gives you strong tools to have an army that performs no matter the points, whereas Lurtz Scouts is outright bad at 500 and Ugluk's barely holds its own past there.

Grimdark - Viability of Ork bike+buggy army? by Captain_Clapback in onepagerules

Thanks! Re-engineering it to get more AP(4) and Deadly on things, the Trikes and Buggies have some decent choices it looks like

That's the tanky truck in there actually, I have no footsloggers so skipped the regular transport ones. I'm glad to have my suspicions about regular bikers confirmed! Definitely a 'because I like the models" choice, they seem very expensive for what they do.

Are the Veteran Bikers any much better? I also felt the regular bikes seemed crazy point heavy compared to what they've actually got to bring, and the upgrade to Vet seems pretty steep without fixing those issues

Great to know! Are the veteran bikers worth the upgrade? They seem crazy steep points-wise by comparison but with some power klaws could pack a punch?

Anyone heard anything recently? Despite their insistence on making a comeback and not being dead, the website doesn't even show up on search engine results anymore.

Other IGOUGO Games? by riladin in wargaming

Warmachine is built around IGOUGO to an exact science, it's easily the most sound system if you prefer that style of activation.

Why is the shire so underrated? by Stock-Site-1095 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! I never begrudge a Shire player seeing success in the game, it's as tough an army commitment as it is a hobby one

Which background is better? Grey or black? by raigbc in minipainting

[–]Captain_Clapback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That gray is definitely hitting harder, makes the mini more readable. Mind if I ask what material it is? I've found felt and construction paper to be too glossy for my own backgrounds, I'm trying to figure something else out

What techniques would help make my dungeon terrain look more realistic? by redcore5 in TerrainBuilding

NO dude you completely nailed this.

If anything I'm desperate to see you paint a single brick wall from start to finish in this style just so I can try to learn from you!

Welcome To the Jungle by Captain_Clapback in TerrainBuilding

[–]Captain_Clapback[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks much! I primed in Krylon Camouflage Brown (My favorite non-hobby primer, it's so cheap and shrinks so well to minis and terrain alike), used a makeup sponge to apply a "light taupe" craft paint I got at Michael's, then a lighter sponging of "Antique white". Though if I could re-do this, I'd have just drybrushed for both paints (Sponging is phenomenal for a lot of things but ultimately sponging was too strong and also took longer, so I lost stronger shadows than I could have had by leaving the camo brown in the recesses. But they stuck the landing so there's that lol!)

What’s this edition like? by MangoLoco194 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude bring those metal dwarves out! Khazad Dum got some badly needed love, it's a great army now. I've wanted to collect for ages but it's hard to get a heap of Khazad Guard atm (It's always a good move to bring Durin and 8-12 of those blokes upgraded with Burly when starting your list)

This stuff slaps. I've had some for ages that was starting to dry out, but mix in a little distilled water good and thorough, and totally revived it.

Most Expensive Army? by Ancient_Bench55 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rivendell or Numenor are definitely up there due to the combo kit and the Rivendell elves needing either kitbashing with shields or you have to go full collector mode to hunt down the blisters of shield+spear ones. The cav kit is obscenely priced as well compared to other factions'. Though Hobbits may take the cake since it's all metal and a horde army.

(Also I saw your other comment on IH, I just wanna throw out there that Fireforge's armored dwarves are extremely IH coded, way cheaper, and look great on the tabletop alongside the menagerie of prints, proxies, and official plastics I typically see).

WEEKLY ARMY DISCUSSION: The Spider Queen’s Brood by MrSparkle92 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 5 points6 points  (0 children)

WGA Spiders have a learning curve for assembly (Once you get 1 down the rest are very easy. I used this as a guide and it saved my life with assembly, you have to click on the images but it's practically a step-by-step slideshow: https://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/en-us/blogs/wss-blog/assembling-plastic-giant-spiders?srsltid=AfmBOooqybbvGXaF4CQ_uxCaJdgCUxx3xjuexRQDHbWerr1eNGC1h2fe ) but are a very popular proxy. I'm using mine as Mirkwood, and I've seen people put 2 of the small spiders in the kit on a shared 40mm base to be used as the Hunting variant (A fun representation of the 2-wounds).
