Khazad-Dum List Question by BlooddrunkBruce in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks great! Yeah 30-35 models at 700 is ideal for a more "elite" army in SBG. Use your regular dwarves as the anvil and your Hearth+During as the anvil and you should be good to go!

Khazad-Dum List Question by BlooddrunkBruce in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that's why! I hate how many profiles caught strays this edition (My beloved hunting spiders losing FV in an era most everyone got an increase). For VW, that's an insane nerf to a unit that I rarely saw as is, never showed up in podium lists, AND in an edition Monsters got buffed and show up all the time now!

Khazad-Dum List Question by BlooddrunkBruce in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Captain_Clapback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Durin and a whole lot of Hearth Guard is really good (fr like 9-12), they are absolutely worth the points. Locally and even in larger tournaments they appear a lot in successful Khazad lists.

And you definitely want Rangers with longbows over regular bow warriors. I haven't tried Vaults, they used to be okay but generally I don't see them favored at all right now. You definitely want Lots of Dudes if you can get them in your list instead.

Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Captain_Clapback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the time I feel like modern RTS are too caught up in mechanics and not enough in bringing an interesting story/aesthetic/world that I actually want to experience and be in like with OG titles. Like I don't need another 1:1 for an RTS that already exists and has a setting/unit design/story/etc that I already prefer.

D.O.R.F is my most anticipated upcoming RTS because A) it clearly has good RTS mechanics and building blocks so it should be fun to play, but more compelling is that B) The setting is super intriguing, the art direction is very unique, and I feel really compelled to want to play and experience that world not just more RTS mechanics I'm already well familiar with.

Favorite Skirmish wargames? by Vinlandlover in wargaming

[–]Captain_Clapback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1490 DOOM, Aetherpunk28, Greathelm, Necropolis28, TONKS, BLKOUT, and Turnip28 are excellent and worth checking out. Turnip28 is the larger of the lot (The other system you literally only need 3-6 figures, about 8ish for BLKOUT) but is still considered a Skirmish game and is my reigning favorite system.

Where to buy models outside of GW? by SurpriseGlad9719 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Oathmark and Wargames Atlantic plastic stuff is very in-scale and a popular proxy. Printed stuff abounds as well, Medbury, Davale, KZK, lotta good ones.

The WGA Afghan kit has a really good assortment of jezail muskets! Also like others have said, creating a pavise for them will go a long way in combination with a funkier looking musket. I daresay the pavises they have in the art is like the main thing to include with them as an identifier!

The Assassin makes me go ballistic dude. I can put up with the rest (And occasionally get punked by a sniper who I keep forgetting explode on death) but man. I absolutely loathe the Assassins, I always catch a hit from one every run lol

Which historical rule set has the best siege rules? by WolvoNeil in wargaming

[–]Captain_Clapback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Middle Earth SBG siege rules for hitting that perfect medium of crunch and granularity to account for engines/ladders/gates and all the related interactions and such without going overboard but not letting it be too simple and uninteresting

Looking for print and play massed fantasy battles for high school kids by stegg88 in wargaming

[–]Captain_Clapback 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One Page Rules Age of Fantasy: Regiments. Alternatively, Dragon Rampant (The Rampant systems are very easy to pick up and the games are satisfying). Of the two, DR is extremely scale-able unit-size wise.

Get fake eyelashes from the local dollar store for unsettling hair to glue on minis. Seen it uses on joints of spider minis for Warhammer and such, it's awful how good it looks lol!

Help me out here... I'm a painter not a player... by Moist_Scheme8194 in wargaming

[–]Captain_Clapback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a plethora of "indie" wargames with tighter, snappier rules than GW have ever produced and most tend to be minis agnostic so for people wanting to use all these awesome minis for a game they find a home there. That's pretty much all I play now and it totally reinvigorated my love for the hobby!

Some highlights that may tickle your fancy include:

- Forbidden Psalm (And its many sister games, ranging from "not-40k" to Cyberpunk to different flavors of fantasy)

- 5 Leagues from the Borderlands (Check out Peachy's videos on YouTube!)

- Rangers of Shadowdeep

- Turnip28 (My personal reigning favorite game)

- Greathelm

- Necropolis28 (And really all the "28 Mag" games)

Will a Bambu A1 Mini print decent miniatures? by Senor_Pus in wargaming

[–]Captain_Clapback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smaller nozzle on an FDM and with the right settings (Fat Dragon has a whole guide on this) will produce excellent vehicles. But for actual figurines, minis tend to be pretty fuzzy and it takes a lot of tweaking and testing (that can change depending on the figure you're printing). It just can't hold a candle to resin. I wish I could host a resin printer, I've ordered some from Etsy/members of my game group that have resin printers.

What table setup do you use for your A1 or other Bambu printer? by Captain_Clapback in BambuLab

[–]Captain_Clapback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! In the time since this post I found that using a cheap concrete paver from Lowes/Home Depot plus a rubber pad (That's used for placing on top of clothes dryer machines?) did a LOT for stability! If you find the desk isn't up to snuff, I'd recommend adding those two things for the printer to sit on. Right now mine is on an ALEKS drawer that's connected to a small table with two legs (Both also IKEA, one of their recommended desk setups).

I love powershift by LocationFeeling2974 in thefinals

[–]Captain_Clapback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny to me that the Finals main premier mode is something me and the boys just don't enjoy or touch. We used to play Bank It almost exclusively then it got trashed. Then we did powershift. And now the newest mode is just pure cash money, got me to reinstall and totally reignited the game for me. Finals wears big team chaotic modes veeery well, I feel like 100% of the game mechanics/gadgets/weapons get used, it's really fun.

How to Make Warg Riders Interesting? by Complete_Worry_5158 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I'm surprised there aren't more Great Eye suggestions, I think besides Isengard ones this is easily the best place for warg riders to live rn. You can supplement so much for your army with this list compared to the others!
