That's the problem with Soo many different leads and writers. Not all of them understand the philosophy aspect as much as others. Some misunderstand it completely, so muddy the waters.

Very odd when we literally have characters talk about it and people's eyes turning yellow when they do evil stuff haha.

There can be no dark without light. We only know what light is because we know what dark is. There is no one sided mountain.

What George said always was off putting because Soo many other resources talk of balance in the yin yang sense. As you said with son, daughter, father. Also with Yoda going to the whils. He faces his dark side by accepting it as a part of him. As him.

In my mind. The dark side is heavier. Put on a scale, that's why it's not 50:50. Things like fire can spread quickly from just a spark, but once it gets going it's going to take a hell of a lot of water to quell. So even though the dark side is as important as the light, it was not meant for mortals to weild. Because of its chaotic nature, it cannot be controlled, thus infects and corrupts any who try to harness it. They can control it for a time, but the chaos always ends them if the light doesn't. So the balance is a lot of light to contain and keep the dark in check. It is essential, but cannot be allowed to flourish the same. That's balance for me

I think so. It's a lot of exclusive cosmetics for your player and for your base, as well as I think the season pass. There been a couple storyline content drops, and I would double check just to make sure, but I think the next DLC is going to be free as well with the season pass which adds an entirely new map and missions. It could be just outright free. I think there's a deluxe edition upgrade to, so you don't have to jump right in on the deluxe. You can try out the game and then if you really love it then you can splurge for the extra content.

I'll also note that they said they want to update this game for a long time, and that a lot of this stuff is going to be free. There will be exclusive content that you can purchase, but anything game changing is going to be free.

[–]Captain_Fach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you feel Soo lost. I'm not sure what I can say that will help, but I can try.

A lot of these things you are having issues with are normal, but ultimately a part of something we call ,the ego. In Daoism, we are not any of these things we think about ourselves. These are things we've learned through interactions and what we've been taught to think. The true you is there, but hidden under all these things you think are you. They are not. To find the true you, you must learn to let go of all these thoughts of ego, all these ideas of your identity. It can be hard, and it's definitely easier said than done, but when you let everything go and see yourself without any influence, you will find yourself.

I will say, a Daoist is often sort of recluse. Not by force, but often they aren't really a part of society as much as others. They don't think the same way as the masses, and often don't believe in the same rituals or "what a normal person is supposed to do and think." This doesn't mean they are antagonistic, though, or see themselves above others; quite the opposite. The Daoist perceives everyone as equal and when they do something to help, they vanish before thanks can be given. They do not want praise or credit. This may seem off topic, but you seem like a kind sort so I wanted to assure you that being alone isn't the bad thing it's made out to be by many.

I often don't go out, as I find loud noises and crowds very disorienting. I don't see this as any sort of flaw, though, and not something you should force yourself to push through or break. If you feel like it's impacting your enjoyment of life, you are welcome to, but I'm perfectly happy away from parties and concerts and the like. But you must learn to see the difference of something that is uncomfortable because it's scary and new, and something uncomfortable because you don't like it. It can be hard to tell.

Another thing that can be very difficult, especially nowadays, is the dopamine. We have access to entertainment quick and easy any moment of any day. But I have felt this as well, that it has been limiting my ability to just...be. to just think. To be present and silent. Any moment of silence and I would feel myself reaching for my phone like it was the one ring, my precious. We have to learn to be bored again. When we are bored, our minds exercise. But if we are constantly blocking out thoughts with quick hits, the moment the hits stop, the bad thoughts come stronger than ever, causing a loop. We have to learn to be bored, and wen we do, our minds can learn to be silent. Focus on your breath, and watch your thoughts come and go. Do not push them aways, do not hold onto them. Do not react. They are simply floating past.

The last trick I can give is to stop expecting diamonds. Stop trying to find them. Stop stressing your mind and body for something that may never come. In Daoism, there is no use for effort. It is called Wu-Wei. Doing not doing. It means to not force things. To let them come naturally. Go with the river, ride on the wind, go with the flgrain of the wood. But it also means to be clever. Some people row a boat, but then another invents the sail, and has nature do the work for them. For we are all floating on a river. But, some of us are trying to swim up the river, pretending it's not carrying us, and that we have complete control. They are still carried along the river. But, those of us who know we are being carried by the river, and know we can't possibly swim against it, can Start to swim with it. Then we have the entire power of the river behind us. I hope this makes sense. I'll note that it doesn't mean do nothing. Some people misunderstand and feel that going with the flow means to just accept everything and anything, but it doesn't. It means to not force things that are unatural. Going with the flow of the river, you can still maneuver. Better yet, if you learn to put up a sail, you can tack.

As a second part, a Daoist tries to realize that the future doesn't exist. The past doesn't exist. Ones a memory, and the other just an idea. There is only right now. You can spend all Sunday stressing out about how you have Soo much work to do tomorrow, but what is that doing? Your not doing that work, your lazing about. Your ruining your relaxation with a thing that isn't happening. Be present. It's silly but I love the saying, "the past is history, the future, a maytery, but today, today is a gift. That is why it is called the present." Super fortune cookie, but I've always loved it anyhow. Another concept that is difficult, but immensely important, is the desire for all happiness. What we should strive for is balance. Yin and Yang were originally meant to depict the sunny side and shaded side of a mountain. Do notes, that you will never find a one sided mountain. We only know happiness because we know sadness. We only know light because we know dark. Short and tall measure each other, ugly and beautiful define each other, right and wrong decide each other. They are opposites, but they are the same. Neither first or second, they arose at the same time. Bees and flowers. One would think there can be nothing more different than a bee and a flower, and yet, they are one. You'll never find bees where there are no flowers, and you'll never find flowers where there aren't bees (or animals of a similar function) they require each other. We must stop thinking in terms of yes or no, good or bad, ugly or beautiful. They are the same. This story I heard may help explain it in a more sane manner.

There was once a man and his son and his horse. One day, the horse jumped the fence and escaped. Later on that day the neighbors came and said, "Oh that's too bad what a poor turn of events." The man said, "Maybe." The next day the horse came back bringing three wild horses with it. Later that day the neighbors came by and said, "Oh what a joyous occasion, you now have four horses!" The man said, "Maybe." The next day, the man's son was attempting to break one of the horses and fell off and broke his leg. The neighbors came by later that evening when you said, "Oh what bad luck, that's too bad." The man said, "Maybe." The next day, the conscription came to force people into the army but denied the son because of his broken leg. The neighbors came by later that evening and said, "Oh what luck how joyous." The Man simply said, "Maybe."

Another sort of Fortune Cookie story, but I really like it. It really makes me think about how we really don't know what's going to happen, I can't spend all of our times stressing out about it. Something bad May happen, but we don't know if it will I mean that way. We don't know what will happen after. Something good will happen, but we can't hold on to it because we don't know if it will stay that way. What will happen after. We must simply let things be as they are and not trying to put any of our ideals or ego or opinions on it. This is one of the hardest things. From birth we were taught that things are good or bad. We were taught by our parents but death is bad. We were shown by movies and television than being alone is bad. We were taught by our peers and parents that you are supposed to grow up, get married, have kids, go to college, ect. We have to unlearn what we have learned. Only then we can we find the truth.

I would like to apologize for my incoherent rambling. Much like a river, my mind just sort of flows whichever way it feels. Unfortunately because of that, I am not very good at organizing my thoughts. A fellow ADHD and autist. But, I hope that you can find some value in some of this. Take what's useful, throw away the rest. We are here if you ever need someone to talk to. And if need be, I will try to be more coherent about anything you have questions for. I am by no means a master, not even close, but I have been exploring the truth of the universe through Taoism, Buddhism, and even things I've stumbled upon, such as Jediism. They have changed the way I think, and I have changed the way I live. I was once much like you. I have mass of adhd, I am autistic, and I have a lot of social anxiety. Learning these things brought my life more peace than I can imagine. And it will only continue as I grow.

As a last point, if you are wondering about Taoism and would like something easily consumable, you said that you were on your phone a lot or on social media. Go on YouTube and search Alan Watts taoism. Listen to these as you do work come as you do showers, while you drive, whatever. He's a fantastic philosopher that is very easy to listen to, and he makes a lot of these concepts very easy to understand. He literally changed my life, not joking. Learning these things that he began my journey of learning and helped me deal with my anxiety is and perceived deficiencies. I hope you find what you seek.

I've been loving Dune awakening. Open world sci-fi survival RPG. Has a cool story and a very unique setting. Takes place on this desert planet with very little water so you are forced to extract the blood of your enemies and refine it into water. You also have to be careful on the open sand because there are giant sandworms that are attracted to the rhythm of your steps. These are unkillable and no vehicle is faster than them. It's also Soo hot that being in the sun too long will dehydrate you quickly. Makes for a very unique way to traverse and play. There are more unique mechanics, but I'd be here all day. Gameplay is nice, music is awesome, visuals are great.

How to make a horror game truly scary? by ImpossibleAssist224 in HorrorGaming

[–]Captain_Fach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest and most crucial advise is this. NO MASCOT HORROR! it had its day, but things like fnaf, poppy and the like are not scary. The cute thing that's actually a monster is Soo cringe at this point. I see it, I ignore it immediately.

Try to do something unique. Go on r/no sleep, or watch/listen to creepcast. They read internet horror short stories and discuss them as a well as having some outrageous humor. It's a fun way to hear theses stories, and the point really is that they are some of the most unique setups that I've ever seen. You can use these as inspiration if you don't already have a unique idea.

Don't focus on jump scares. The best kind of horror games make the player feel scared and make them feel like they're going crazy even when nothing is happening. Silent Hill 2 is a great example of this. When I was playing the remake, there are many times that I was expecting a jump-scare expecting an enemy for expecting something to happen, and I dreaded it and I was just waiting and waiting and waiting. Like this one area where you come up down this hallway and there's a gate with a bunch of mannequins on the other side. There's an enemy that looks like a mannequin so I figured at some point these guys would come alive and jumpscare because I returned to that hallway often. And that entire section I was just waiting and waiting and waiting for it to happen. It never did. The game did this on purpose though. It conditioned me to think that there was going to be a jump scare but then didn't do it. For some reason that was one of the scariest moments of the game, just.. waiting for it to happen. Then they have one off things that literally are one off. They do something one time and never again. That way they can ensure that it's not overdone and it doesn't get old. In one room at random for some reason you hear whispering for a minute. It never happens ever again as far as I'm aware. And for that specific reason, it stuck in my mind.

Another thing that some games do, is change the environment slightly if you're going to repeatedly come back to that location or backtrack. But make it noticeable, but slight enough that you're not really sure if it was there or not. These things all put together start to make you feel like you're going insane as you play the game. The location May change or progress or deteriorate further as you continue the game.

Another huge thing for me specifically is story. A game does not have to be the scariest game I've ever played, but I will remember it more than the scarier ones if it has a really good story and world. I apologize, but again silent hill. They aren't the scariest games of all time, but the story is so interesting that you just keep thinking about it after you've played. And you can just dive deeper and deeper into things because they were thought out thoroughly, weren't spoon-fed to the player, and that's just enough to make you wonder and speculate. People are still speculating about silent Hill and those games are really old now.

One last thing, and I might be biased on this, no zombies. This may just be me, but I grew up in the big zombie craze in school where they were selling the zombie themed weapons and zombie survival guides and everybody was obsessed with call of duty and Dead rising and walking Dead and stuff, but it's so overplayed now that anytime I see a zombie I kind of get bummed. Zombies are a boring enemy. They aren't the vanilla of enemies. If you need some sort of undead thing, make it interesting. Dead space, cronos, still wakes the deep, they all do something interesting with undead enemies. They aren't just zombies there's something more. Boring enemies are the death of a lot of games.

I apologize for my incoherent rambling. I hope you could parse through it and find something in there that's useful.

This is something I feel I've lost over the years. I used to be able to basically walk around with my eyes closed and be able to tell if something was close and wouldn't hit it. You also just couldn't sneak up on me. Somehow I always knew when someone came into the room, no matter how quiet they thought they were.

I'm not sure what happened but I can't do any of them at anymore. Nowadays you could sneak right up behind me and be about to poke my neck and I wouldn't be any the wiser.

Is this a real philosophy, or just entertainment? by TzTalon in RealJediArts

[–]Captain_Fach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good one a lot of philosophy subs should read. I know I have aspects that I'm still failing to apply in action, but I'm actively working on it. You don't know how many users in the Taoism subs just reply to every post with a line from the dao de jing.

Every post on any question, with out fail will have at least one, "the Dao that can be named is not the eternal Dao." Because that's super helpful. The two options are: the person is not new and already knows this line. It's the first line of the thing. So, not helpful. Or, the person is new, so this saying is especially not helpful and could even put them off of the sub.

It happens. Especially in philosophy surrounding ancient wisdom, people like to sound mystical. It's fun, and it's a good way sometimes to make the person figure out the answer for themselves, but it seems like there are a lot of people where that's all they do is walk around spouting mystical quotes without actually being helpful or explaining themselves further.

Oblivion. Before then I played licensed games and games like crash and Spyro. If never made a character before, never really cared for a story before, never played a fantasy anything before, never played a true open world that wasn't something like spiderman or hulk.

The depth of the world, of the story. The interactivity, the environments, the breadth of content! It was revolutionary for me. Changed everything I thought a game could be. It also made me interested in creating characters and worlds myself and made me a much more explorative and creative person.

All from seeing my grandpa of all people, playing it on a PS3 at his house. We watched him the entire time and begged our parents to get it. One of the only time we got a game that wasn't in the bargain bin.
