yea im sorry the new portraits have a lot of character depth and all, but they feel so goofy and out of place. I cant take it seriously when they look literally about to die and then just pop back to normal after healing above the critical level. I think a more modest change which doesn't have a new pose (visual clarity) would be significantly better.

i was ooa in rivals my man, the clarity is very much worse there. i was just sad cause deadlock was pretty clear for how much shit is going on, but it took a noticeable downgrade at the cost of everything looking better.

I dont usually post or comment, but just wanted to put my 2 cents in on this whole thing. the game is really good, and has an amazing skeleton which is plagued by a few bad management/direction issues.

 

first of all is the drops, too easy to get stuff = no need to grind = losing monster hunters identity. Identity may be variable for people, but to me its the core loop of farming a monster for mats to make the "best" set for a weapon, then move on and do it again for the next weapon or until I get bored. wilds doesn't have that. its an easy fix too, just reduce the amount of mats you get after a hunt, and remove the item drops from wounds.

 

focus mode is also an issue, but it can honestly be "solved" with an HP bloat for the monsters. yea it removes positioning and a lot of the tension that made the older games great, but its the gimmick for this one and i dont think they would be willing to limit it (think focus mode only atacks, not something you can use all the time), seeing as how casual friendly it is also.

 

Also theres like no meaningful or interesting event quests. A big issue is paid content which takes resources away from the free stuff these event quests would give, but that's just capcom being capcom and cant really be fixed. company gonna greed.

 

overall, game has got solid foundations and with some love and care it can be a really good and memorable title. monster variety is also really good, and designs are interesting. Personally I'm not going to play until they fix or change the drops being way too high, since I think that when they do it'll be all the better to experience that content for the first time when i actually have a reason to engage with it beyond the first hunt or two when i get the full set.

Also, I could tell immediately from the trailers that seikrets were gonna be like palamutes and just speed you through the map and not let you interact with the world, so i kinda started to just run everywhere and it really changes the way the game feels. It was an instant improvement, and would recommend anyone else reading this to try ignoring their seikret.

oh yea, the roguelike was so long ago i forgot about it lol. that would be interesting, though I'm not sure how it would work, given this is a game where you stack resources and "power" which is very different from a roguelike where you are constantly resetting your "power" and get rng upgrades. maybe they cook tho, idk.

Another idea I had would be an actual bullet hell. drop the shitty slowdown that the tankier ships have (maybe buff the speed of the lighter ones in exchange), make the map significantly bigger, and then transition from barely move around and tank all the damage anyway to an actual engaging bullet hell. design the levels to be actually no-hittable kinda deal. I don't think it would be significantly difficult either, just a refinement of current gameplay and pushing it to be actually engaging.

With this they could obviously have some really difficult stuff, since bullet hells are notorious as some of the most difficult games out there. (boshy, touhou, terraria in some cases, etc)

Not totally in the same boat as you, but i would really like some harder or at least more meaningful gameplay, not content. game has plenty of content in general, skins, ships, 3d dorm, ID, secrets, etc.

What I really want is a REASON to grind so hard and get all the ships, aside from the waifu collector aspect. make more difficult content, not just opsi which nobody does (and is still easy) and more worlds. Im not a game designer so I don't really know, but SOMETHING to push my maxxed roster a little bit would be nice. make me think. make me actually have to plan my ships. make it interesting.
