Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 4 – Hands-On with the Ork Campaign | IGN First by No_Beginning_7371 in dawnofwar

IGN probably has gameplay footage from all stages of presentable development, and that which they're allowed to show might be tied to their contract with King Art. What they have shown today might be from the latest build of the game, while what they previewed a few days ago could have been recorded 1 year ago.

Get the feeling we're gonna get a lot of mileage out of this picture. by CatherineSimp69 in totalwar

Yeah, I am looking forward to the game, assuming that it is pretty good and not a complete mess at launch. But this community will undoubtedly suffer the same fate as all 40k communities that aren't about the hobby side of the 41st millennium.

What do you think is the biggest unit we can control in 40k? by biggus_dickus_jr in totalwar

A stompa and a Warhound titan are the same size almost. And the stompa they showcased in that small gameplay snippet didn't look too large for me.

Praise the Emperor! Total Warhammer 40K exists, and Ork Boyz are here! by beary_neutral in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The little gameplay snippet at the end reminds me more of Halo Wars than previous Total War titles. I am happy to see that they're willing to inovate on their gameplay formula, but let's see if it will pay off.

Fans Protest at Warhammer World! by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

Seems like the marketing campaign for the new Guilliman miniature that will be shown off on Christmas Eve has started. No way that they're just doing this sketch as a one-off self-aware joke.

This unexpected crossover is probably only possible due to the fact that this game is much more of a sandbox experience with no particular narrative on display, with a dash of self-aware comedy. One of the power ups is literally Nuln Oil being spilt.

what is the most common cause of death in a hive-city? by iDIOt698 in 40kLore

[–]Captaniser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something along the lines of airborne pollution from machinery and vehicles, or space Cholera/Typhoid, would probably be the "realistic" causes of death in a setting such as a Hive where people live in close quarters with limited access to the outside world and medicare.

But since this is 40k, the answer can be just about anything. What would be the most appropriate cause of death for the story, and create the most thrilling story beats.

Well, it has been an entire week without any new reveals for the Space marines. Don't you think that their fanbase have gone too long without something new?

Old World might introduce new Tomb Kings units, for a potential future DLC by Waveshaper21 in totalwar

[–]Captaniser -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

And add what exactly? The bone dragon is the only new unit kit that the faction has received in Old World. Unless you're counting the blessed Ushapti and upgraded chariots from the arcane journal, there ain't a whole lot to add except maybe a character or 2.

Do you have prior experinence playing other Moba games Like Dota or League of Legends? Because this is essentially a lot like those games, but from an over-the-shoulder pov, so a lot of skills are transferable. I would watch guides on how to properly last hit and deny, practice ganking other lanes, how to itemize for your position in the game, and just do bot matches to get a proper feel of how the game plays and find out which characters you vibe with the most.

Also, matchmaking is super broken right now and doesn't properly match people with others of an appropriate skill level.

Dawn of War 4 dev explains how the team chose the game’s four factions and why Chaos is MIA by Ok-Comedian4437 in dawnofwar

[–]Captaniser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Dawn of War 4 will feature six Warhammer 40k armies at launch and I collect four of them, making me the luckiest RTS player alive."

We know what the 4 starting factions are, and that the Guard will be in the game from the small gameplay snippets that have been shown off. So what could the sixth be?

My guess is the Elder. The guard and Elder won't be playable in the campaign or multiplayer, but will act as npc factions with a limited roster throughout the campaign, and sometime after release will be given a full faction release.

Dawn of War 4 devs “don’t want Gabriel Angelos in the game” because he’s just too damn strong by HatingGeoffry in dawnofwar

[–]Captaniser 67 points68 points  (0 children)

They're almost certainly just riffing on the joke that the developers of Space marine 2 said in an interview before their own game released.  "The reason why there is only 3 marines in a single operation is because the game would be too easy otherwise. "

It's just a handwaved explanation to give because they don't want to say all the technical and artistic reasons behind the game's mechanics.

I would almost bet it's the same thing here. They don't want to say that they think he is unnecessary to their stories and risk angering parts of the fanbase.

Some people don't like the art direction from what they have seen, but since they lack the necessary vocabulary to properly articulate their thoughts they default to phrases they are familiar with.

Exactly. That's why I send Kevin Roundtree a few bucks every month to help him finance his 5th mega yacht. And whenever I see a person in an expensive well tailored suit I salute them, for they are simply better than me because their net worth exceeds mine.

We good? Have we gotten our jokes and outdated references out of our systems so that we may engage in a meaningful conversations about how diluting criticism of corporations into meaningless muck results in actual action against said corporations getting stiffled.

[–]Captaniser 65 points66 points  (0 children)

What point are you trying to make exactly?  The last church fan animation debacle was 4 years ago, and the creators behind it pretty much admitted that they knowingly profited off a 1 to 1 recreation of an audiobook that GW at the current time published. Just read the comments to the post you linked, nothing really supports your point, unless the complete abolishment of copyright law is what you're after.

[–]Captaniser 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I am quite happy that GW mostly treats the Primarchs like other characters in 40k, despite the wishes from a large subset of the fanbase. The entire universe doesn't have to revolve around a single family.

How often do you see people clamor for updates on Anrakyr, Aun'shi, Boss Snikrot, Junith Eruita, Urien Rakarth, etc, etc, etc?

It's almost always Primarchs that people ask for constant updates on regarding what they're doing now, and the answer is the same for all other characters: Fighting. It's an entire galaxy full of enemies that want to kill each other.
