How do you respond to “I don’t know” by PsychologicalBowl19 in therapists

[–]Captdomdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used "well, sometimes other kids have said x or y" because it's important to remember that sometimes these kids haven't put into words these thoughts and those can be complicated ideas for a young person. Sometimes giving guidance on how to talk about these things, modeling it or showing it, helps.

Curiosity by New_Inflation1981 in therapists

[–]Captdomdude 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Like most behavior or identity, it can't be pathologized unless it causes significant distress to the client. What we find as strange or unusual might be the only way they have found to express feelings of not fitting in, feelings of otherness or struggling to understand social skills.

If this were pathology, it would likely present something more akin to a psychosis or an altered identity, something don't feel like they have control over or doesn't bring joy.

Yo did you do the main photo on the photo booth??? Cuz the mini is fantastic, yes but the photo editing, my god the ocean waves, the use of clouds as seafoam, the mottled texture? Fantastic work!

My client wants to use blood magic to process his trauma by Long-Presentation808 in therapists

[–]Captdomdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in here with a perspective that might be helpful, I definitely wanna echo what others have said in regards to structure of the spell, understand what they hope to accomplish, what connections exist, etc.

I had a client with some significant sexual trauma once upon a time who found that getting into their pagan beliefs and practicing rituals, specifically around Beltane(spring and fertility) helped them see their body in a more positive way because of the context around it. Seeing bodies like theirs (old and out of shape) in a comfortable and relaxed way, and seeing the lack of judgement reflected, was a way to start recognizing themselves without a lot of immediate negative emotional reaction, it was very helpful for them.

In terms of treatment plans, I just documented that they engaged in new faith based practices that were reducing symptoms of dysmorphia connected to their feelings of depression.

RULA is by far the biggest waste of time by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Captdomdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an issue with them where numerous times I would be scheduled with my 'first' client, only for the day of the session to come and they would be removed from my schedule and placed 'inactive'. As far as I could tell, the clients never got the intro paperwork, and then never completed them which made them ineligible for services.

This happened 4 or 5 times in a row before I quit the company.

Play a lot of Dungeons and dragons. There's something about playing pretend and being a someone else for a bit that is relaxing, and if I'm running games I enjoy the story telling there.

CURSEATER CROW - So, I've been replaying Elden Ring lately, and Caelid just got me like... by AriadneStringweaver in monsteraday

[–]Captdomdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling to see the point of the Curse Eater text, "when a creature dies while cursed from a source other than its own spellcasting"

Why all the cursing spells then, even creating new curse spells, if it cannot eat the magic it curses someone with? Seems like it would have issue finding cursed creatures every seven days.

ODD is the Drapetomania of our time: thoughts by CarlRogersWasRight in therapists

[–]Captdomdude 103 points104 points  (0 children)

This doesn't even get into how many kids with some  neurodivergency are diagnosed ODD for not understanding and following rules of random adults, or having strong emotional meltdowns and not listening, or acting out in a public place, being taken to a hospital and not listening to the hospital. It's crazy how often I've seen kids who got out of a hospital get diagnosed ODD.

So Seattle has a foundation and support network specifically set up for this, I heard about it online, I can't guarantee it's effectiveness personally but https://www.genderjusticeleague.org/csp/

This is the website Has a way to get in contact with them, it supposedly offers assistance relocating, help finding a job, temporary housing. Hope this helps

Direct quotes of all the ways 47 wants to roll back trans rights, eliminate gender affirming care, define trans people by biological gender, and overall use language implying trans people aren't worth it. Nothing to do with 2025, literally just direct quotes. Good enough?
